What a great local spot! I was hesitant to come here because they're already so many great breakfast and brunch spots in the neighborhood, but I'm so glad I did! With a sleek open atmosphere, breezy patio, and excellent high-quality food, I will definitely be coming back. Decor: open, modern aesthetic, but still comfortable. Outdoor patio is well decorated so you don't feel like you're just sitting in the street. Food: definitely a higher price point than some other neighborhood places, but you can see the difference in the portions and food quality. Everything I've tried here is excellent, but the stand out is the French toast. Thick slices with a crisp layer and buttery goodness. It's definitely, not a light meal and you'll feel a bit guilty afterwards, but it's worth it! Service: All the servers were excellent, friendly while still being efficient. I got an espresso as well as the avocado blt. The espresso was pulled just right with a good amount of crema but the avocado BLT just didn't have enough salt content or mayo. I think it just needed a touch more and usually bacon is salty enough to carry it, but the bacon wasn't salty either which I thought was kind of odd. I like this one better than the washington pl location. First of all, the huge sized French toast at this location is the correct size. At the other location it's definitely smaller and lackluster. The star of the show is the sautéed banana pancakes. What dreams are made of! Everything about the pancakes were 5 stars. Service was fantastic, DIDNT take that long to get a table on a Saturday morning. They seated me while I waited for my guest which was nice. Salmon Benedict was ok. Not only does this quaint spot in downtown El Segundo serve a great weekend brunch, it's even better for dinner! Sit on the front patio and ask them to turn on the heat-lamps if you get a bit chilly. The last two dinner outings, we've had the salmon, the mussels, and lamb osso buco- all delicious. The portions are really generous, the prices are reasonable, and the service is so friendly and attentive. We drive all over the county for good food. Had a brunch date with a girl friend here. We each ordered an entree and some pancakes to share. The portions were huuugggeee! We couldn't even finish half of what we ordered. The presentation was good but the flavor wasn't just there. Each entree came with a big piece of honeydew, which was funny. Their coffee was great and the server lady was friendly. Really amazing food. It is very pricey and my company ordered the avocado toast and it wasn't made very clear that the two eggs would be an additional $6 charge. The pipes were also leaking above our table into out food and on us. But it's nice by the beach and the service was good. read more

I loved my chicken Cesar salad, but my husbands burger was very bland, I think they forgot to season it. Service was okay, they forgot my Diet Coke and fries.. had to ask for them but they were very nice and apologetic about it. I was so disappointed at our time tonight at Metro. We got there at 5:15 and no one else was there and we had the whole restaurant to ourselves. We told our waitress we would have the mushroom flatbread as an appetizer and would share the salmon for dinner. 35 minutes later, the flatbread came out and it was so burnt and black that they took it back without us even having to tell them why. And dinner never came! We're the only ones in the whole place and 45 minutes later, still no food. Supposedly the manager was checking on things but after five minutes, we just got up and walked out. I have never in my life just walked out of a restaurant. There was no one there to tell and there was never any food that we ate. I know why the restaurant was empty. read more

My daughter and I make sure to dine at Metro Cafe whenever we get a chance. Not only are the happy hour specials (mushroom flatbread, sweet potato fries!!) fantastic, the overall ambience is perfect for a much needed break away from all the hustle and bustle of LA. This hidden gem offers some of the most delicious food for both breakfast and dinner. Omelets, French toast and avocado toast are fantastic. BLT and burgers are always a hit. For dinner we love the braised tofu with quinoa, burrata salad and the crepes. I really cannot recommend this family owned business enough. Great food and wonderful, warm service. 5 stars read more

What a disappointment. We've been here before and I liked it. So when we showed up for Sunday brunch at 10:45, I was looking forward to it. However it was not to be. We were seated and gave the server our order by 11 am. Our drinks came, but no food. I don't know about most people, but I like food with my meal. So we waited patiently, for about 35 minutes. The we waited increasingly less patiently. At around 40 minutes and no update from the server other than "it's coming" I motioned to the owner/manager who just shrugged. At around 50 minutes checked with the server again who said he would check and went back to the kitchen. When he left the kitchen, he avoid eye contact. That's when I knew we weren't going to be fed any time soon. We got up and left. I spoke to the owner again on the way out who admitted he didn't know what was going on, but "the main guy" was out. Like I said it's too bad. Interesting menu, but the need to make the food that's on it to make it worth going here. read more

My spouse and I have had dinner at this excellent restaurant twice in the last month or so. We have now had three different entrees, all delicious. The service is also tops and the pricing very reasonable. The atmosphere is warm with nice lighting at each table. And conversation is pleasant as the high ceilings hold down the buzz. Last but not least, there is a large parking garage (free) right next door, a plus in busy El Segundo. We will be going back again soon and highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Metro Cafe is a true gem in El Segundo. I almost don't want to write this review because I really don't want people to know about them, but at the same time I want them to have business and stay in business, hmm...conflicted. We came here for breakfast. My son wasn't feeling the menu and the waiter told him he could have lunch, so that was awesome. He ended up getting a burger for breakfast and was happy as a clam. I had my favorite breakfast - eggs over easy, bacon, potatoes and an iced coffee. The portions here are big, you will get your money's worth. The service is really great too. We did have to wait a little, but that wasn't a big deal. The staff took great care of us. I would love to come back here again and dine on the sidewalk. Good people watching! read more

Accordion-tinged jazz wafted out onto the sidewalk. With the music, the tinkly mimosa in hand and the soft ocean breeze, I drifted off into a slick little Parisian cafe dream. Then, just as our meals arrived, gentle lines from a bossa nova guitar weaved in...and it occurred to me that this is ambiance dialed to perfection. Covid safe practices with distanced tables, masked staff, outdoor / sidewalk / patio / umbrellas infused with happy, low key chatter. I rocked the BERN SPECIAL which, with its charbroiled spicyish chicken sausages, fluffy egg and perfectly sauteéd spinach and mushrooms, said "fresh" to the last bite. The sourdough bread was the authentic sourdough, perhaps carted in by oxen from the old country - and toasted just right and made heavenly with a schmear of soft butter. My wife enjoyed the CALIFORNIA SCRAMBLE and it was another masterpiece. Tomato-y, spinachy, avocado-y and eggy loveliness. A watermelon triangle adorned our plate...so big and juicy, it was like a hella counterweight to the sizable portion of food balanced on the other side.
