Well, first let me say that I really like my apartment at Metowers. I'm sociable but don't socialize much, preferring to keep to myself, but after a year here I've found my neighbours, with one exception, friendly and respectful of my privacy. I like the building, which is well maintained, although as someone pointed out some of the hallway carpets could use some cleaning or replacing. My apartment was completely revamped before I moved in. Generally it is also pretty quiet here and well maintained. I like it here except for that one fly in the ointment. I have a neighbour who is a junky. Almost every day he smokes stinking marijuana in his apartment and it fills my apartment with the noxious stench. I've been dealing with this for a year now and along with other problems turning me into a broken down old geezer, I now have a respiratory problem. HUD insists the building be 100% smoke free. Tenants are to smoke outside or in a structure behind the building. This tenant refuses to do that. Other tenants obey the rule and do not violate their lease in this matter so far as I can tell. Yet management keeps making excuses, claims they are working on the problem, but after a year I doubt they will do anything about his constant violation of the lease and absolutely disrespect for the other tenants. In fact, it seems as if this troublesome junky tenant is being protected by management and allowed to break the rule that everyone else seems to follow. The police do not seem to be interested in doing anything. I've contacted HUD and they do not at all seem interested. Meanwhile my health is worsening and not now in a position to move (where there may be hidden problems as well). It is aggravating as otherwise I'd love living here. Now, don't think me the only one complaining about this. There are several other tenants annoyed by all the smoke they are suffering from in this advertised smoke-free building, and growing bitter about it. Still, nothing is done about this one tenant who is essentially poisoning everyone in the building by way of the ventilation system and the fact that of course the apartments are not hermetically sealed. If management would solve this one problem this would be an excellent building to live in, but as it is, if cigarette or marijuana smoke offends you and causes you health problems, this may not be the building for you. I'm very disappointed in both management and HUD. Affordable housing at the expense of one's comfort and health. read more
