The computers were pretty old and slow, but they did the job! The library itself is however, pretty modern and has a good range of books, with the classics all being stocked here. There isn't however the broad selection that you would get from Central Library on George IV bridge and if you are after a pretty obscure book, then it would probably be best to try there instead. The library is a great community resource and the best feature is probably the books it offers for children and the events that it also holds for them. There are also lots of toys in the children's area which would keep them occupied.

This is a lovely little library. Its open late most nights. It has a great selection of books and…read morethere is computers you can use and lots of papers and local information can be accessed here. I specialy love the childrens section. With there own little play area it is full of toys and many ,many books. You can go here and actualy relax with the kids and read them books or let them play while you sit nearby. They also hold differant events through the year. They have outside organisations come to the library and set up an education hour for all children. The last one i attended was called Zoo Lab and the children got to handle lots of creepy crawleys and learn all about them. Kids just love it. They also have reading time for little ones and the staff are very friendly and helpfull.

Smack back in the middle of town, and next to the other main libraries, this collection of books aimed at kids of all ages, is in the most convenient location. The Children's Library is a large, single room, with shelves bordering right around with a small gap only only for the reception desk. It isn't the biggest of libraries but they do a good job of jam packing the space they have. I first visited when looking for a children's book of Scottish history. I was helped by the staff and came away with what I was looking for. No complaints about the service! The library doesn't really cover teenage or "young adult" fiction, but for that you can pop next door.

A wide range of books, magazines, newspapers. Big children's area with lots of board and picture books, and a good teenage area too. CDs can also be borrowed. Lots of computers available to book for internet etc. This is free. Storytimes and Bookstart Rhymetimes run regularly here too and are very popular.

As well as book reading, the staff draw in visitors by providing a range of alternative activities such as jigsaw building and swapping, crafting for children etc. They also provide tea, coffee and hot chocolate (a real favourite with my grandchildren). Finally, a one-day dog friendly day for the animal lovers. This must be the best library in Scotland. The museum upstairs is also amazing and well worth a visit. It caters for both adults and children.

It's a fine piece of civic architecture, but I think most people come here just to get out books and use the computers, not to admire the building, just like any library really. Because it's a local library, there's not the hugest selection, but you can summon books from other libraries in the city for free, which solves that problem. There is a children's play area here as well, which is a fun idea, although it does kind of shatter that whole tradition of libraries being silent. If you're after the internet, there's a whole room of computers just to the right of the main entrance, which any member of the library can use once they've registered at the front desk. I'm not sure about printing and photocopying facilities. You're unlikely to come here unless you live in Leith. But if you do, all I can do is repeat this mantra: public services are awesome - use them lots

If you're here to borrow books or read them/study them in peace then perhaps it's not the right time of day for you :) In case you're reading this review and are interested in the Book Bug sessions at Leith then the times are as follows! First and third Tuesday of every month, 10.30-11.15am Second and fourth Wednesday of every month, 10.30-11.15am If there's a 5 week month then all the best as I still haven't figured out what the system is so I would probably ask the chap at reception.

The place is a hive of information and has a great atmosphere. Many seats and tables are provided and there is a lift to the other floors. Comfortable library to spend hours inside and there's also a good cafe within the building and decent toilets. Computers also available, friendly staff.

This library opened in 1997 and was opened by Prince Charles.Very up to date.Sections are clearly…read morelabelled and upstairs they have older editions of books.They keep in stock loads of past papers which even though you can't take them out is is quite handy for those who might not be able to afford to buy them.They also have a lot of pcs-both upstairs and downstairs which people can use for free and they offer free intarnet access.they also have an area where you can research your family tree.The staff are alos really nice but the opening hours on certain days such as Saturday are not that great and they are not open on sundays .

As far as libraries go there's not a lot wrong with Morningside library. It has books, and lots of…read morethem. It also has telephone directories, audiobooks, internet access and newspapers. Everything really. It even has a massive separate room for children's books, which is great, because let's be fair, children are irritating at the best of times, never mind in a library. Add this to its opulent setting (the ceiling above the main desk is magnificent), with its original pillars and cornicing and you've got the makings of something great. Why only 3 stars then, you cry? I just felt the whole place felt drab, tired if you will. The carpet looks like an enormous piece of baize, and the tables and chairs are old. A little makeover (and it wouldn't take much) and this would be a truly resplendent place to get your literature fix.

Morningside is an area with an above average age. Add to this the fact that older generations tend…read moreto frequent libraries more than younger ones and you start to get a picture of what this library is like - the World War II section is one of the most comprehensive for starters. That said, if you do belong to the two extremes of the age groups or have a young child this is a good set up for you. There is a large print section, massive audio book section (generally tapes) and a good range of children's books including some for sale at 10p each. If you aren't of these age ranges this isn't particularly set up for you, although there are books of interest. It's rarely quiet here and if you want to come out for a quick visit you will be welcomed in, but beware of the predominant age groups if you are one of those people who feels easily out of place.
