What Crefeld does best is to educate its students in a safe and warm environment to become socially-conscious self-advocates ready to take on the challenge of college. They give their kids roots and then gives them wings. As a parent of a 10th grader finishing up his fourth year at Crefeld, I have never doubted for a moment that the staff at Crefeld has my son's best interests at heart. They hold him accountable for his actions and celebrate his successes. They educate him while providing him with all the academic and emotional support that he needs to succeed. No school is right for every student, but for the right kid, Crefeld is a gem.

I was placed in the front of the school in a room with approximately 10-12 other children with ADD. We did well in subject matters but had trouble staying focused and seated. What I do remember very well were the beatings we all suffered from the teachers. One was named Lauer, possibly Alfred. Back in the 60s, they used old-fashioned yardsticks to keep us in order. They would beat us until we cried. We had nobody to appeal to, as we were just a bunch of 7 year old munchkins. How bad could we have been? Lauer would first verbally torture the children. Then, if we reacted in an adverse manner, he would take his yardstick, which was never far from him, and beat the living crap of the child in his sights. Although we were not part of the larger school with many autistic children, we did have lunch with them in the lunchroom. I remember quite vividly those poor souls being beaten and abused by the staff. They never tried to hide or cover up the abuse. Delta School and others have been successful for the past 5-10 years at deleting my eyewitness account of what went on in this hellhole. Every time I post what happened there, they complain and my review is deleted. Next time, I will file suit and testify in Philadelphia court. This is a truthful account and they want it quashed. If you love your children, DO NOT send them to this school.

I attended the School District of Philadelphia's open Career Fair on May 20, 2025 through Indeed,…read morebecause Mayor Cherelle Parker spoke of The District's need to hire teachers at my commencement ceremony at Rosemont College last month. I showed up on time and dressed professionally and with my resume. Half of the schools were not present during the start of the event and/or reps showed up late. I walked around to speak to most of the reps that were present. I noticed that more time was spent with Caucasian applicants and I felt that the mostly Black reps/principals were not as interested in speaking with me, despite my having a Master's degree and being a Black woman representative of what the mostly minority student population would benefit from seeing in the classroom. I gave my resume to about three reps but did not hear back from any of them, probably because most were seeking Math/Special Education teachers with certificates and I am not certified and have an English/Reading background, which I was honest about in person. I also wrote this down when I applied on Indeed, and it would have been nice for The School District in its response to my Indeed application and invitation to the event to be transparent about the specific subjects they were hiring for, so that I would not have wasted my time and money traveling from NJ to Philly. When I received an email from Amber Minor-Tisdale, SR. Project Manager for Talent Recruitment & Selection in the Office of Talent, asking for my feedback on the event, I filled out the survey and responded to her email directly about my experience. She responded initially with apologies and asked what other job I applied for (I also applied for the position of Special Projects Assistant I (50026178) directly on The District's website before the event, since I have years of data entry/office experience). I responded to her email about the other position on May 29, 2025 and when I did not hear another response, followed up with a request for an update on June 6, 2025, to which I have not received another response from Ms. Minor-Tisdale nor anyone from The School District of Philadelphia. The least they could do is to follow up with candidates who take the time to show up to their calls for applicants, especially because the need for good teachers is great. The District cannot afford to be indifferent or disrespectful to the very people they depend on to educate our future. I certainly would not advise any candidate to waste his/her time and resources going to any event hosted by The School District of Philadelphia unless he/she personally knows someone within the system and can get through by way of nepotism. -E.J. I honestly cannot believe what our experience has been like with Newtown Friends School. It was…read morerecommended to us by an acquaintance whose children attend there and love it. Small classes, progressive values such as inclusivity and diversity, values that so much seemed to reflect our own. It just so happens that our fourth grader was the victim of a crime over the summer before attending this new school. His behavior was affected by this event and, initially, NFS staff, using their language of partnership and collaboration, provided support that had an immediate positive impact. As they expressed a willingness to collaborate with us so did they decide NOT to actually collaborate. The simple recommendation was to keep the support in place and unchanged for a number of months. For whatever their reason, they chose not to do so. This immediately set our child up for failure as they made changes to the support that was working perfectly. Despite our efforts to collaborate, they simply changed it with no regard to what would work for our son. As a result, he was basically set up for failure. Our bright and motivated 9-year-old boy was never in so much trouble as he was at NFS. He was clearly under their critical microscope and their lack of understanding, empathy and unwillingness to work with him was both shocking and obvious. We decided that this school was definitely not a match for him or for our family. The values that they tout are good on paper but our experience is that none of them were genuine and there was no caring about our child, family or experience. "Teaching the whole child", and all of their "partnership", was chewed up and spit out along with us. But they made a point of keeping our.overpayment. Please know that NFS collects tuition fully in advance of the school year being complete. So if you invest in this place for your child's education and well-being, be prepared to lose your money if your child is deemed not good enough by those on high in administration. A sad reflection of Quaker values equating to a complete and total lack of empathy, enormous hypocrisy and obvious greed.

We had some highs & lows here - but I got a good, solid education and went on to Lenape Jr. High (now middle school) and the good 'ole CB West (yelp to some later.) Currently, I did a school comparison of local schools, and while Doyle (and all Central Bucks schools) has slipped a bit in recent years, test scores are still decent and it's still a nice, safe environment in which to raise kids. Of course, this policy is in contravention of both the PA Child Passenger Protection Act and common sense. The available alternative is to skip the line, park elsewhere and walk the child from the "Orange" door to the parking lot. Inconvenient in good weather and more so in inclement weather, but it will get you past the school policy that obligates one to disobey state law and teach children a very bad lesson. Show less
