Specialties
Metal Arts Academy is a trade school for jewelry and the metal arts. MAA was founded to keep the art of fine jewelry fabrication and design alive. Local owners and operators, Michael and Rebecca Kosinski, truly love the community we've created here. The old-school techniques Michael teaches are not commonplace in today's modern metal arts industry -- the skills learned with us are invaluable. Beginners, advanced metal workers, and apprentices can hone in on their craft here. Depending on which class you choose to take at this jewelry school, you will have the opportunity to work with expert instructors on stone setting, wax carving and casting, soldering, coppersmithing, chasing, repousse, and much more. We look forward to passing on our passion and knowledge to the next generation of craftsmen and women.
History
Established in 2018.
Metal Arts Academy was founded by Michael and Rebecca Kosinski to pass on knowledge that Michael gained while working as an apprentice for Van Craeynest, Inc. in San Francisco. After 30+ years in the jewelry industry, he saw a need to bring back the apprenticeship idea of teaching to create a strong basis of knowledge for creativity and skill to grow. In addition to jewelry training, MAA offers training in the metal arts such as coppersmithing and chasing and repoussé. Skill-based learning is the foundation for a long life of discovery in whatever field you choose. Jewelry training requires repetitive learning to master skills. The curriculum for the program is based on this idea.
Meet the Manager: Rebecca K.
Rebecca is the co-owner and manager of MAA. After a career as a professional dancer, which included teaching and performing locally and overseas, she and Michael decided to open MAA. Much like dance, jewelry training requires repetitive learning to master skills. Rebecca enjoys meeting and working with the students and she and Michael really enjoy finally working together in the same place!
