What a great local gem…read more We stayed here a few days in an appartement just across the street. This place had some good reviews and looked very inviting. It's a small Chiringuito sitting on a lawn, close to the ocean. There's a tent in case of bad weather and a good number of tables outside. Dogs allowed anywhere, which was great. There's a menu, but they got some daily specials, be sure to check on them and ask. Soda, beer and wine available. Staff and chef/owner here were great. Fast, friendly, helpful. The food is cooked freshly by order, portions are good sized and prices more than fair. They got some great galician specialties on the menu, seafood, as well as sandwiches and other items. We came here every night (it's open for lunch and then again for dinner). On these days we had Chorizo, Spanish Tortilla, Clams, Mussels, Tuna Panini, ham (Lacón a la gallega), and octopus (pulpo a la feria). Always a bottle of wine with. All together it did cost around 45 Euros. Good value for the location, the freshness of the ingredients and the quality. Chorizo was really flavourful and tender, Spanish Tortilla big and could feed a whole family. The mussels and clams were plenty and tasted like they just came out of the ocean. Great stuff. The most amazing items were the traditional galician dishes. The ham with potatoes (Lacón a la gallega) was fantastic. Great, tender and juicy piece of ham. On top of a good load of potatoes, some oil and paprika powder. A wonderful meal. Same goes for the divine octopus (pulpo a la feria). Same preperation as the ham. Octopus seems like an easy dish. But cook it to short, too long, too hot or cold...and it ends up chewy. This one here was cooked to perfection. So, this place here is a fantastic find. Great authentic food. Location, quality, staff. All full points. I miss this place and the good times we've had here.

I think this has something to do with ensuring that the arroz caldoso de marisco (if you order this dish) is properly prepared upon your arrival (i.e., so the rice isn't over cooked). We had a pretty nice experience at the restaurant. Although the arroz caldoso de marisco is listed for 2 people, the portions are very generous, and I think three maaaaybe four people could share the dish. Maybe four people could share the dish if other items from the menu are ordered. The dish arrived packed with clams, shrimp, and a split lobster. I think there might have been some other things in there. ;) Overall, service was decent. It wasn't super-friendly, but our servers were not rude The restaurant appears to be super popular, so I think the service team is in constant go, Go, GO mode. While everything went well with our meal, I was a bit annoyed by the flies. However, I think that comes with the territory of eating in a semi-open air restaurant that is near the sea. Also, it probably didn't help that we were sitting near the lobster tank.

As tourists in the area for a couple of hours. we thought the prices were pretty decent. However, I'm not sure how the prices compare to other places in the general area. From my understanding, I do not think Báltico takes reservations, and it's kind of first come, first serve (at least the day of our visit). At the front of the restaurant, there will be someone taking names for tables. For our table of two, the hostess told us it would be a 30 minute wait, but (fortunately for us and my growling stomach) our table was ready within 15 minutes. Originally, we were going to use that time to walk around for a bit, but I'm glad we stayed in the vicinity of the restaurant. I think they'll call your name 3-4 tables, and you name goes off list if you are not there to claim your table...so stay close. ;) Overall, I found that the service was very friendly and prompt. We did not have any problems with any of our servers. While the restaurant has plenty of outdoor seating, where you can see the beautiful marina and buildings overlooking the port, I did notice a lot of flies. Note, I do not think the flies was an issue with the restaurant (moreso of the restaurant being next to a marina). I'm just mentioning this as a recommendation to either eat indoors or put on some insect repellent if you choose to eat outdoors. Although this restaurant seems to be the place to be (judging by the massive crowds), I'm not sure that I would wait more than 45 minutes for a table if I'm dining with one or two other folks. That said, if this is your first time in Luarca, you really should give Báltico a shot.
