The moment you walk in, you're hit with an atmosphere so unique, there's truly nothing else like it. A couple of weeks ago, we saw Paul Simon there and checked out the VIP bar--a classy touch. Growing up in KC, I've parked my behind in just about every seat over the years, and I swear there isn't a bad one in the house--whether you're front-and-center or chilling in the balcony, you'll feel like you've scored the hookup. Because the theater offers top notch entertainment (they advertise that they produce "the hippest BoldNewPlays"). But it's more than that. Often the top notch entertainment bit is all you can ask for when going to the theater. Since childhood, I've been going to see many a Broadway Play that cost well over 200 dollars a ticket (some are up to 400 dollars a ticket. I don't lie!) and despite my petite stature (I'm freaking SHORT), I feel absolutely cramped and miserable in a seat that if it were on an airplane, at least it would be soon be spitting me out in a foreign land at those prices! I know, I know. Theater is expensive. Many theaters are old and that is part of the charm. The history, right? Of course. I'm a sucker for all of that, too, don't get me wrong. The theater in which I saw Grey Gardens the Musical offers spacious, comfortable seating in an extremely intimate environment. It's a modern theater, sure, but I was able to stretch my legs out, cross them even, and shift in my seat (OK, I'm restless when sitting for more than an hour), while enjoying the show. I believe there isn't a bad seat in the house. Grey Gardens blew me away. The sound was absolutely stellar and the performances were perfection. Everyone agreed that Drew and Jessica were on point with their GG performances. The actresses last night were just as good. I am not exaggerating. Blew. Me. Away. As Big Edie would say, "You CAN have your cake and eat it, too, in this life." Thank you, Unicorn for existing and making a quality theater experience a sure thing in Kansas City.

To start with, what other venue in KC has ample FREE parking? I feel like 10 years ago this was common, but nowadays not only is parking often pricey, but it can be harder and harder to find. With Starlight located in Swope Park, they are able to share parking with the Zoo and if needed do overflow parking into the park itself. Worst case you're walking a bit. I love that I never have to worry about finding a spot. Now, as we've moved into the modern era Starlight has enacted some clear bag policies so you'll want to read up on that. I just brought my ID , a credit card, and my phone to simplify entry. Once inside you'll be treated to the nicest outdoor venue KC has to offer. The restrooms were renovated within the past few years and are really super nice. I remember back in the day they were worse for wear, but now they are all clean, well lit, and despite it being an outdoor venue, little to no bugs. The food options appear to be decent - we ate before arriving on our latest visit, but they had solid beers available for purchase, and several bar areas which made lines move quickly. I'll finally add that you will have a vastly different experience on if you get a ticket way at the top or one down in orchestra. Of course the orchestra tickets are incredible and IMO worth the cost since Starlight keeps prices pretty fair, but I love that since it's so big and they have such far away seats, if you just want to enjoy music under the stars you can still do that here for sometimes as cheap as $30 a seat. Overall, I love this venue - especially on a nice KC night it really can't be beat if you have good seats.

All were delicious! Adrian and LaVera were helpful and patient bartenders. There were a few vendor tables to checkout, including a The Black Repertory Theatre of Kansas City promoting the upcoming productions. And for the most interactive fun, a tablet Photo Booth station, where the resulting picture had play brand border. There was an air of excitement, enthusiasm and friendly people all around. Our seats in the Terrace were very nice. Comfy seats, aisles with amble markers and space to pass as long as you stood up and the elevation of slopes for tiered seating was perfect, whereas we had a clear sight line to the stage. This made the acoustics and sound have a great quality and clarity. The entire cast was phenomenal. The well known story translated well onto stage. The drama, tragedy, triumphs, comedic timing was felt in every word, lyrics and various musical scores from entire company.

There's a variety of proteins, including steak, pork, fried fish, and fried chicken, along with sides like vegetables, mashed potatoes, and mac and cheese. I wouldn't say the food is the highlight, but the overall experience and the venue itself are fantastic. Drinks and desserts (served during intermission) cost extra, though they're very reasonably priced. The audience tends to be older folks. I feel like like this is a hidden gem in Kansas City. It would be great to see them bring in some younger actors and actresses for added publicity so more people can discover what a special place this is.

There were several coach buses that transported senior guests to the event. Upon entering the theater, we were directed to our assigned table, which had a great view of the stage. The way the theater was laid out, any table would have a great seat to watch. Off to the buffet lines, despite there were 3 separate lines, it was moving slow due to the elderly guests taking their time. But once the lines were clear, it was east to come back for seconds. At the beginning of the line was a display case of all their huge dessert offerings, that you pick one as part of meal that would be served during intermission. The buffet had a variety of cuisines such as Asian, Italian, and American. Their beef stroganoff was delicious! Once we settled back at our table, our server took our drink and dessert order. Overall, the venue was well organized and clean. The Theater & Restaurant concept was amazing! It's so convenient that there is no need to go to 2 different places for dining and entertainment. Definitely a great place to have wonderful time! Highly Recommend if ever in Overland Park!
