It seems to be a place frequented by the locals and we were the only English speakers here. In some other places people did not really want to try and "work" with us. Not so here. We felt welcomed and between my little Spanish and bartender's little English we were able to communicate. The food was excellent, we got grilled octopus and burger sample with wild boar, ostrich and two more meats. Both were very enjoyable, better than that both were great. Wine at less than €3 were also good. At the end we spoke to the owner who was super friendly and spoke good English. All in all it was a great experience away from places with pictures of paella in the front (typical in the touristy areas)

Service was helpful with some English words from our server. He was a bit slow in service but was nice. I had all day so I didn't care that things were more slow than I am used to. Food was generic and likely played more to the western palate. Bread to start, wine, nice cool gazpacho soup, chicken thigh and drumstick in what seemed like a soy sauce with roasted potatoes. Dessert is coffee or a choice of chocolate cake, carrot cake or banana cake. Overall ok place but I was hoping for more local flavours.

This was an enclosed space with heaters, and was quite comfortable, and it was January. We ate here last night and decided to eat here again tonight. The waiters are prompt, polite and attentive( it was not crowded). The food, incredible! Last night I got the stuffed cuttlefish in squid ink. It was light, delicate, fresh and delicious. My husband got the sirloin steak. Having raised beef in KS, I was very impressed with the quality of the meat. Marbled, juicy and cooked perfectly. Topped off with a dessert cocktail of ice cream, fresh orange juice and orange liquor. No skimping on the liquor Ordering. Beer, we got a tapas of sausage, fried potatoes and grilled okra. Very tasty( especially the okra!) Tonight, we stayed with tapas( starters) and were able to try a couple. We discovered El Txoko, and studied the menu for a while, since my knowledge of Spanish doesn't include many of the words they use (see photo I've uploaded of their English menu). It looked good, so I decided to make the trip to this traditional Basque restaurant (the sit-down side not their attached less formal side, which I didnt look into). The waiter gave me recommendations for dishes that would carry out well, and steered me away from ones that wouldn't, which I appreciated greatly. He also was willing to split an appetizer order, so that I could try the croquettes (with cecina) which my wife doesn't like as much and she could try their fried calamari. I also ordered the revuelto, and the oxtail stuffed peppers. Every thing was tasty and I would order everything but the calamari again (which didn't travel as well as everything else but was still perfectly cooked).
