Just checked in at the Mercure and have not been this turned off and feeling deceived as we do staying here. At booking we were informed that we had wi-fi included in our rate. Upon arrival we were informed that the wi-fi would cost 9 euro per night, which we agreed to pay. Once we paid, we were given a code to access the internet, which seems normal until we realized that there could only be one device connected and that if we want to connect additional devices we would have to for additional codes. When we paid for the wifi we were not informed that these codes were per device! I find it deceptive that the hotel staff did not inform us that these codes were per device, nor is this listed on their website. How ridiculous is this business practice in this age of technology?
When I contacted the front desk, I was simply informed that the Mercure uses a 3rd party service provider and claims that they have no control over any policies, rates or the misleading business practice of not defining service by device. Personally I find this answer to be unacceptable since the service has the Mercure logo on it.
We are clearly not looking forward to the remainder of our stay at the Mercure as surely the hotel operates based upon deceptive business practices.
UPDATE: Must share that the Mercure hotel has the most ridiculous wifi policy we have ever experienced in all of our international travel. The policy, we have learned is even more than ridiculous, it is sneaky and downright deceptive. We checked in with three people all needing internet access and were given three internet codes after paying 27 euro. After the second day, the wifi service stopped. We were then told that we had used up all of our credits because we had used more than one device. Yet NOWHERE in any policy is it explained that guest are only allowed to use one device per code (what kind of a policy is that??). When we went to the front desk they had trouble explaining hotel policy and it is now clear why policy is not in writing, on your website or even on the internet access password sheet. We have spent more time trying to resolve this deceptive hotel policy than actually enjoying the hotel. What a shame. The total cost that they wanted us to pay for wi-fi access is 81 euro!!! In this day and age, this is just plain sneaky and deceptive. Mercure DOES NOT cater to business travel and worse yet, it does not even cater to the customer at all. The front desk manager was rude and lied to us about the policy repeatedly. We will NEVER stay at a Mercure hotel again with this type of ridiculous internet policy and complete lack of customer service. read more
