This is a sad excuse for a newspaper business! We have to call EVERY DAMN TO RECEIVE OUR MORNING PAPER , it's not the mid morning paper or the afternoon paper... it's the MORNING PAPER and as such it should be on my door step between 7-8 am .... This issue has been going on now all summer and we're tire of it... countless emails no one to talk to about it... piss poor excuse for a business. I want my paper delivered to my home EVERY MORNING ON TIME OR IM STOPPING MY PAPER. Get it together sun star, your better than this... or you use to be. read more

Ordered the Sunday paper because I wanted to support a local newspaper for a bit, but decided not to renew to clean up my budget. They kept sending me the paper and charging me for a, "grace period" after my subscription ended. You have to call them to cancel, and the customer service person on the end basically tries to keep you from doing that every step of the way. A. That's a predatory business practice. B. They have an online account management portal that only lets you sign up for new services, not cancel one you've got. Youve got to call for that. That's extremely questionable. read more

A terrible newspaper. There is hardly any ever relevant local news that matters. What little makes the paper is slanted information. There is never any news on upcoming events. No online access unless you pay, and there's nothing in the paper worth paying for. Not sure why this paper exists. read more

Never get the newspaper on time. have left numerous calls to report late delivery with no results. I am unable to easily read paper on-line. I am paying for home delivery & that is what I want. I bought a subscription a few months ago because they were having a great special. I paid cash and was told that it would start in about 4-6weeks. I never got it. Instead at week 10 I got a letter informing me that my subscription was over and asking me to subscribe again. I figured it was a mistake, and called the number on the letter. The man apologized and restarted my subscription. Since then, I have had to call at least once a week because my paper doesn't get delivered. One week I had to call three times, and kept being told my account was credited and it wouldn't happen again. But it keeps happening. This time it happened on Saturday, which is the paper that comes with all the coupons, and needless to say I'm frustrated. Why does my carrier bring my paper one day, but forgets the next? *EDIT ONE WEEK LATER* I didn't get my paper three out of five days this week. I'm at loss for words. On Monday I will be taking time out of my day to contact the CEO of this company. read more

Are you kidding on the price for home delivery of the paper? $46something per month? This paper doesn't even offer a senior discount!!! My parents have been a loyal customer with home delivery of the paper for over 50 years, and there is nothing for them? How "Home Town" of you! The customer service rep was polite though, but he kept muting our conversation, so I don't think he was too invested in the conversation. read more

I'm new to the area and I wanted to subscribe to this newspaper. I called their customer service number to inquire about their coupon inserts and talked to a rude customer service agent. He asked me for the number associated with my account with them and when I told him that I didn't have an account yet but had some questions before hand he grumbled "go ahead" in a tone that conveyed I was annoying him and taking up his time. When I asked on what day are the coupon inserts delivered in the paper he responded "I don't know, it's all different days, most of the time it's Wednesday and the weekends but it could be different days." Then I asked what coupon inserts were put in (i.e.- Red Plum, Smart Source, etc.) he responded "I don't know. It's different all the time so I can't answer you what inserts will be in there." The customer service was horrible and didn't seem to know about their own product and from the answers to my questions, the newspaper operation itself seems disorganized and haphazard. It's a shame because I really wanted to start my newspaper subscription today but after that conversation, I don't think I want to spend any money on this newspaper. read more

My father has been getting the paper for 50 years he is 79 years old and literate to the computer so he depends on the newspaper every morning. Merced SunStar does not deliver the paper in time they deliver it past 9 o'clock all the time if they even deliver it at all. They don't seem to care about how they treat their customers we have called many times to make a complaint and still It continues to happen. Not to mention it is a newspaper that should be delivering facts not based on opinions. This is a newspaper with correct information what happens for the Merced county not based on what politic party you side with. I keep telling him he needs to cancel the paper why spend $100 a year on some thing that even they don't care about obviously very disappointing. You guys need to get it together Merced SunStar very sad! read more

I would give zero stars if possible, for their customer service. I called to complain that the paper was not reaching my front door and instead of being offered a solution I was offered to go ahead and cancel my subscription. I sure miss getting a good quality newspaper with excellent customer service. read more

Do NOT subscribe to the lame paper! I was a customer for nearly 40 years with very little problem until 2 years ago. I cancelled my subscription in January 2020 yet the 'customer service' department claim to have no record of this. I did not have automatic renewal, either. Then 2 days ago I get a letter from a collection agency demanding money. I call B.S.! I asked to speak to a supervisor only to be told there are no supervisors! The peasant (Summer) who was supposed to be helping me was utterly useless. She kept repeating that I still owed them money. I will not let this rest. DO NOT READ OR SUBSCRIBE TO THIS PAPER! You, too, will get screwed eventually. read more

The sun star newspaper is awesome, if my newspaper is not delivered in the morning for whatever reason, all I have to do is call the office and they have someone deliver my newspaper within a half an hour. read more

They report opinions not facts this is why printed news is failing. Like all other news I would get it from internet as least they fact check their work. read more

They are incredible rude. A woman called and asked if my family wanted to renew our subscription we had OVER TEN YEARS AGO! The apartments we lived in back then were taken down so the address she gave me was no longer even valid. I didn't even know we had a Merced Sun Star subscription back then either; I was only a kid!! She told me we used to receive the newspapers with an attitude, as if I knew about it!! read more

I got an ad in the mail about paper deliver for a good price so I sent in my money to subscribe for the 13 weeks. I did not get a paper delivered I got only a digital print out. I do not read the paper on the computer or my laptop. I called every number I could come across to ask for a delivery and never got anything more than a recorded message. Finally I wrote a letter describing the situation and asking for a refund. I got a refund only for the remaining weeks of the subscription. I wrote back and asked for a full refund since I never got what I subscribed for and I even included a copy of the advertisement saying it was home delivery. I have not heard anything about the rest of the refund. They keep sending these advertisements but I feel sorry for the people who subscribe because they won't get what they order. read more
