This was a great find. I like to dabble in the kitchen a bit, particularly Asian food, but have…read morebeen finding the ingredients a bit difficult to obtain and expensive in Madrid. Then when wandering around the neighborhood, I stumbled across this moderately sized Chinese supermarket, which says simply Supermercado Productos Oriental over the door. Concise and to the point - I like it! They have a few specialty fresh goods (sprouts, plus some things I cannot name!), but not much fruit and veg generally. The freezer section is pretty extensive, containing all sorts of weird and wonderful things. But it's the selection of dry goods that's fabulous about this store... they have all of those hard to find Asian ingredients and the prices are ridiculously cheap. So far I've found vinegars and soy sauces from Japan, Thailand, China and the Philippines, as well as Thai curry pastes, rice wines, palm sugar, sweet chili sauces and tamarind; and this is only a fraction of what they have! So if you're keen in the kitchen, I highly recommend a visit!
