It seemed like most of the small restaurants inside of the market were offering fish platters, which none of us had the appetite for today. There was one long stretch of hall that probably had twenty or more little Independent restaurants. Everyone had pozole and pancita which again was something relatively new for everyone. We found one special restaurant and we all at pollo asado con feiiles and arroz. Two large pitchers of Jamaica juice was included. The service and food were great. The market was even more interesting and they have everything.

You need to organize your self how you enter the market. The market not limited to the building. The side street full of vendors. The visit to here need minimum 3 hours to complete. You need to be aware of the surroundings. Careful about the pick pocket. Wear two layer of dress with inner dress with pocket for your wallet. Make it difficult for the pick pocket. I always can get cheap berries and grapes, which I think are hard to find. Also, they have all types of grains at great prices. They also have a couple areas for storage containers and non perishable goods. All the vendors are friendly, but they can be a little pushy.

We went towards late afternoon/early evening and I am not sure if it's the norm, but booths were starting to close down. We got a great and dirt cheap bite to eat, and saw lots of affordable local trinkets. I don't know if any of the goods were stand out, but definitely some fun stuff from glassware, keychains, coasters, cookware, and so much more. I don't know if they take card, as we used cash, which definitely seems more appropriate for the space. The aisles are small, so i imagine when it's really busy it can get a bit hard to maneuver, but at around 4:45 or so, it wasn't an issue at all.

Mercado de Coyoacán popped up as a convenient option since it's within a 10 minute walking distance from both Museo Frida Kahlo and Museo Casa Kahlo. Open since 1921 (though originally in a different location), on an early Sunday afternoon this appeared to be a popular place to visit, with plenty of people eating lunch at the many food stands, picking up groceries as well as a number of tourists exploring the aisles. The market is divided into sections, another Yelper compared it to Ben Thanh market in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (aka Saigon), and I'd agree this reminded me of a smaller version of that, and the setup is very similar! And by smaller by my estimate there's still more than 150 vendors here, so relatively speaking tons to explore (if that gives you an idea of how large BT market is)! Different sections of the market sell different items, there are areas for apparel, accessories, vegetables and fruit, butchers and seafood, spices/condiments/sauces, dried goods and coffee, food stalls, handicrafts and souvenirs interspersed in between. Each stall has a number tho you may need to do some wandering around to locate a specific one if you're searching for it. Vibrant sights, smells and sounds greet you at every corner, since it was around lunchtime the delicious scents of food wafting around made me hungry! I ate at one of the more popular stalls and food was decent though perhaps not stellar imho. However I may not have ordered the right items and it was also one of many choices so I'm sure there are other tasty items to try. The aisles are very narrow, enough for one person to pass thru in some cases, so take that into account. Bathrooms are available though not clear on conditions.
