She always treats me like I'm her BFF, and is very easy to work with. If I tell her "I don't know what I want, just do something" she is not afraid to take a leap of faith and try something. If I tell her I really want something, she tells me her honest, professional opinion about how it may or may not work on my head. She's just my favorite! Thanks for my awesome bangs Kim! The rest of the staff is great, too. Especially the salon manager,Christa (or Krista...sp?). She always acknowledges your arrival even if she's busy. She will help you our in a pinch ... like squeezing me in when I just needed to get a bang trim because they were too long and driving me crazy! And the ambience and interior design! All the girls in the salon had great stylish hair. The place was very clean, and I wish I had found this salon earlier in my trip because I would have loved to have time to get a massage, facial and my nails done. I made an appointment with Chris, solely based on availability, and did I ever luck out. Chris was amazing. She LISTENED to what I wanted and what my concerns were. We literally sat in front of the mirror together before she did anything so I could talk to her about what I liked and didn't like about my hair. She immediately understood what I was after and she totally FIXED MY HAIR! After she was done she asked me to run my hands through my hair just to double check that I was good with how the cut was going to lay, etc. This is the first time in over a year that I woke up the day after a cut and loved my hair. I'm not good at remembering to take photos, but I have one here where you can see the beautiful color/depth (and this was just normal highlights, no bayelage or anything like that). The half-up do was exactly what I wanted, and despite the loose, swirly style, it was SOLID and lasted through wind, sweat (the kind in a hot commercial kitchen, we're not messing around here) for 12 hours. I actually wrapped my hair in a silk scarf and slept in it so I could have the style one more day, and it totally worked. Probably would have lasted 3 days if I'd cared to. I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes here, and even with complicated procedures I've always gotten out on time. They don't double book which is awesome because I hate paying to have my schedule disrespected! MAKEUP Honestly, I won't go anywhere else for makeup. I've gone to 3 other places in town because Moxie was booked on the date I needed service, and I always felt like I looked like a teenager who tried to look like a grown up. You can see for yourself in the picture, the makeup job at Moxie is subtle and oh so effective. Elegant, with a sensibility for my skin tone and natural lighting. As with the hair, the makeup stood up to hours of sweat. Was sad to have to take it off because it is the best I've ever looked EXTENSIONS I've had hair extensions and eyelash extensions done here. I am NOT an ideal candidate for either of these processes because I'm hard on my body (working out, recreational sports, physically demanding work life, little time spent on self maintenance other than hygiene). I've had eyelash extensions off and on for 10 years now, pretty regularly for ~2 years back in NYC and these lashes ROCK by comparison. In the pictures you see, I've spent a week running hard, training for a half marathon, swimming in lake water, showering in untreated cabin water, and possibly occasionally smearing a bit of anti wrinkle eye cream too close to my lashes. And yet, they remain (and don't itch or scratch). Hair extensions were awesome and they're very fast at re-installing them (or whatever you would call it) but they're just too high maintenance for my lifestyle. (And pricy! They were initially a birthday gift, so it was a fun experiment!)

Nestled in an up-and-coming stretch of Union Street...it's poised to pamper. Nice digs. The good... Heather did my hair and the hair of one other bridesmaid. She was talkative, congenial, gave me the perfect "country club" poof hair. A little bit fancy, but mostly I looked myself, but a grown up. She even hid my streak (for the most part), and I'm sure the bride appreciated that ;) She curled the hell out of the other girl's hair...looked beautiful. The bad: The rest of the staff just seemed terribly unenthused. It was disappointing. The girl that did two of the girl's hair was hardly friendly, borderline curmudgeonly. But, whatever...it is what it is, and then...we got the bill. I am sorry, my friends. If you are going to charge $95 for a pretty novice looking updo, you best do it with a damn smile. $95. I was in SHOCK. ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. None of them took over 40 minutes.
