Nice little CC nestled deep in the hills of Ukiah. I've taken one or two classes here before and they have been pretty chill, I guess. I think they have a pretty good nursing program here, but I'm not really sure. I don't really know what the heck people do here because I haven't attended, but the campus sure is pretty! Nestled deep in those foothills. Surrounded by all that green stuff. I meant nature, but given the fact this is Mendo County, I'm sure there's probably plenty of other HERBS growing around the campus as well :D read more

Locals call it Trailer Tech, since it used to be in portable trailer type buildings. It's a good community college. The pottery classes are the best. They are really good art teachers. The new theater is very nice too. read more

Mendocino College has the same problem most other such schools have, at least in California. They are dependent on student enrollment for their funding. They don't want to drive students away by giving bad grades. Hence, their classes are dumbed down and their grading policy is to give everybody a good grade. I know an instructor who was given a lecture about giving out too many failing grades, and a student who was given a certificate of competency in book-keeping who could barely read. These are extremes, but the result is that local employers have learned that a degree from Mendocino College is not an accurate measure of achievement. All the above applies to academic subjects. They do great work in things like welding, pottery and art classes. All that said, it's a beautiful campus and the faculty are personally all sweethearts. read more

Mendocino College Outrage, My son was a Laytonville High School senior taking EAS 200 Natural Resources with Steve Cardimona. In May, my son contacted him telling him that he was unable to submit assignments as he was having issues with his laptop. Mr. Cardimona sent him a reply back stating that one assignment he hadn't even opened until the day it was due. Doesn't matter when he opens the assignment, at that point, it was not late. Which wasn't true at all, he would get the message, "User isn't authorized to access this content," on top of having intermittent issues with the laptop itself. He submitted an assignment on a Wednesday and right after submission, the lap top died completely. He logged on that morning with his cell phone and noticed that the assignment said it was missing. Mr. Cardimona refused to allow him to make up any of the assignments and sent him an email saying he saw that he was online. He could submit his assignment by 4pm. I'm not sure where in the translation lap top is not working was lost, but that creates a dilemma for retrieving completed work. His emails to my son were curt and snide. I emailed the Dean and had no response. I am extremely angered by Mr. Cardimona's unprofessionalism. That is clearly not Mendocino College's supposed stand on "Student Centered Success". I absolutely agree that a college student can find a computer or Internet to submit assignments. A high school student who lives with one parent and has no drivers license in between Laytonville and Leggett does not have that opportunity. A high school student who politely asked to do whatever he could to make up the assignments was told no! A high school student who has taken several classes at Mendocino College, was told no! A high school student who is banking on his GPA to go to Sacramento State this fall, was told No! That high school student wasn't a California Scholarship Federation Seal Bearer like he was supposed to be thanks to Mr. Cardimona and Mendocino College's failure to work with my son and his unusable laptop. However he did get the Seal of Biliteracy and the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma given to graduates who have demonstrated their mastery of the high school curriculum in at least six subject matter areas, This is obviously not a student blowing off his assignments! When I attempted to talk to someone about the issue, I was told that even though my son was a minor, I couldn't discuss his computer issue and giving him a week to complete the assignments with faculty. His HS counselor said she'd help him and contact the college. In the end, they wouldn't listen to her either and she said all she could do was give him a character reference since he had the highest SAT scores she'd ever seen. Mendocino College failed at their mission in quotations below. This disrespect, lack of integrity and failure to encourage student success really bothers me. This review is just for the parking lots. Since I just wrote a negative review for Los Medanos College parking I thought I should give credit where credit is due. Mendocino College has ample free parking which is very much appreciated for someone who visits the campus often. A+ read more

There have been a lot of upgrades and new buildings! So exciting to see the college grow. On my way to a show there now.

Mendocino Community College is definitely underfunded and has lots of room to improve. That said, I disagree with one of the other reviews here about A's being given out indiscriminately. That may be true of some classes, but the pre-med courses are hard! You really earn your grade with thousands of anatomical terms to memorize and identify, for example. This college is a great place to go to fulfill your prerequisites and it is SO MUCH less expensive to do them here. I would definitely encourage students to take classes here, especially, like I said, to fulfill prerequisite requirements before going on to another college to get your degree. read more

After enrolling at Mendocino College and transferring my financial aide to the campus, I have been dissapointed by their complete lack of follow through and inability to get my student loan processed. I would never recommend this school if you are looking for a real education. This has wasted months of my time, the director of financial aide does not return phone calls or emails. NO ONE IN THE FINANCIAL AIDE OFFICE CARES IF YOU GET EVICTED BECAUSE THEY DID NOT PROCESS THE LOAN AS IT IS THIER RESPONSIBILITY!! I agree with the what another reveiwer said, they certainly have never read, nor do they follow the lines in their mission statement about doing everything in their power to help you attain your EDUCATIIONAL goals. I know there are better resources out there, and they apparently do not care about attendance, because after months of calling, emailing, and trying to get to the bottom of why they have not disbursed loan proceeds, I have gotten absolutely nowhere. Someone needs to investigate their entire process and why they never can give you an answer about anything, and when they do, it does not happen when or how it should. I am leaving after this semester and I will continue to complain to the authorities about their incompetance. This may be the school for art classes, but not if you are looking to get a real degree and have financial aide help to do so. read more
