It's a great riding experience for adults and kids. I recommend them highly. The horses are well trained and respond to rider's commands. The trail guide and staff are friendly and helpful. Even the chickens and other animals made us feel at home!

Ok so it's a bit dirty but what do you expect for visiting with horses and farm animals. It was a great trip for the price.

It was a delightful ride to be with Marry Ann. She was very smooth and well taken care of. I also appreciate our guides Gina, Monica, and Cathey. They were tremendous help guiding us down this beautiful trail. Never had a hard time, everything was straight forward. I will definitely be back soon. This could be the beginning of my horse riding journey

Flew in from CA specifically to bring 15 yo niece riding in the Forest Preserves. We have our own horses in CA but the trails here are so well maintained I've always bragged on them. Called in advance made reservations arrived a bit early filled out paperwork. Horses were tacked up and we had 2 hours of riding. "Shimmy" was our very pleasant guide, very horse knowledgeable and interested in my own 50 years ago stories of being a trail guide. Humoring the old bird without attitude. I would definitely recommend him to trainers out in CA as groom and ranch hand but he isn't interested.

This stable is the go-to place in Cook County for horseback riding. It was very easy to book a ride for a Saturday. Our trail guide was fantastic and put me at ease the entire time. They spend time matching horses with riders and curating each trail group by age group, skill level, and overall vibe. All of the staff was very friendly, making the experience enjoyable all around. Both before and after the ride, I was able to explore the stables, get to know and pet the horses, and meet and pet the farm animals. I observed that the staff provide ponies and special care for small children. I highly recommend this family friendly activity!

I wish there was a way to just go in to a review and add new or updated photos. I enjoy a monthly trail ride; I will just dress for the weather. For me, its relaxing and therapeutic and I absolutely love horses. I am grateful that during this Pandemic, this is one activity I did not have to give up.

Nice people and chill place. I booked a private ride for 2 people $100 for 1hour. The ride was only 40mins , we started at 2pm and we were back by 2:40pm. They're charging for a full hour so, they should look into extending their trail to complete the full hour their charging for. I would only suggest this placeif you're going for first time on a horse because the trail is short and the instructor was walking the horse so slow. I was expecting a little faster horse ride.

Amazinggggggg experience, would highly recommend especially for first timers.. Firstly, the horses are beautiful and well kept.. shoes clean, nails trimmed, fed well. Facility is easy to get to. Staff from reservation time to the end of the ride are truly accommodating especially with communication. Will definitely go back. The guide was amazing.

We really enjoyed Memory Lane Stables. There was 6 of us that did the hour trail ride . We have been going to another stable for the last 15 years or so , we decided to try this one . The stable was clean and the horses were so well taken care of. There wasn't flies and other bugs all over the horses , some of their manes were braided even :) Our guides Ashley , Carolina and Anna , were very nice and loud enough for all to hear . They handled the group no problem and matched the horses very well to each of us Only negatives I have would be parking was very sparse but you could park down the block at forest preserve . Also they joined 2 other groups with us so there was quite a large group that went

What a beauty!

We were visiting Chicago for my nephews graduation and looked for family activities for our stay. This did not disappoint! Amazing staff! Beautiful horses! Peaceful trail. If you're looking for a low key, inexpensive activity to do then you must go here. Your family will enjoy it! Unfortunately they do only have a portapotty and it gets muddy. But overall my family had a great time here!

Petting zoo in backyard

We had a pony/ petting zoo party for my 5 year old! What a fantastic day! Everyone raved about it and the staff was so friendly! They cleaned up after the animals, which was a huge plus, and gave pony rides back and forth for 2 hours! The goats and donkey loved to be fed and brushed by the kids. What a fantastic day for a great price! Even the parents loved it! Thank you so much for making a 5 year olds birthday epic!

Having a Feb bday doesn't leave us with a lot of fun birthday party locations so we're always looking for something different. The kids absolutely loved this experience. Learning all about different animals and reptiles. The party room was the perfect size for a kid's party. They provided tables, chairs, and tablecloths which was super helpful. The staff is kind and knowledgeable. We got really lucky with having weather nice enough to be outside to see the outdoor farm. They actually said as long as the weather is not unsafe, they continue to provide that part of the party year long. You definitely don't want to miss that part. I'm not sure who enjoyed this party more, the kids or the adults. Thank you Double J Riding!

We enrolled our 9-year-old in the 4-day JJ Horsecamp for $375 after doing extensive research. We…read moredrove more than 30 minutes each way because the camp description sounded exactly like what she was looking for. While we understood that activities were "subject to change," we expected an experience that closely reflected what was advertised. Our daughter was by far the oldest child in her group, and I wish there had been more age-appropriate grouping or activities. She came home each day underwhelmed, which was especially disappointing because she had been counting down the days until camp. The biggest issue was that many of the advertised activities felt much more basic than they appeared. There was far less hands-on interaction with the animals than we expected. Instead of an immersive farm or horse experience, it often felt more like observing, listening, or completing simple crafts. For example, "making parakeet sticks" meant feeding the birds with sticks that were already prepared, and "making a goat piñata" consisted of stuffing a pre-made paper-mâché piñata. She also told us that "learning to milk a cow" involved squeezing a rubber glove attached to a wooden calf with blue-colored liquid inside. While these activities may be enjoyable for younger children, they felt geared toward a much younger age group than our 9-year-old. One thing I did appreciate was the check-in and check-out process. The staff had a clear system that made drop-off and pick-up feel organized and secure. My biggest suggestion would be to make the advertising more representative of what campers actually do. A day-by-day sample itinerary or more photos and videos of children participating in the actual activities would help parents make an informed decision. We chose this camp over others because of the detailed activity descriptions, and the reality simply didn't match the expectations they created.

She had to unlearn bad riding habits she learned from another stable she was at for 4 months. They rotate the kid between the easiest well behaved horses to ones that are a little more stubborn. In my opinion that is good, because a good rider needs to have enough control to be able to handle a stubborn horse. I also love that they max the classes out at 8 people. My daughter has been training with Michelle. I know there is another trainer, but we haven't tried her because we like Michelle. She's a tough-love trainer and doesn't let you get away with sloppy or dangerous habits. She will yell at your kid for doing something wrong, but tells your kid why it's important to do it right. My daughter was originally intimidated by her, but now she pouts when she has a substitute for the only fact that its not Michelle. We've taken my neighbors daughter a few times too, she also was a little intimidated by her, but has since grown to like and respect her style of teaching. Overall my kid has learned to ride different gates, different dismounts, how to groom, how to saddle an bridal, how to balance well enough she doesn't have to hold onto the horn of the saddle, and gained a ton of confidence in her ability to control a 1000 lb beast. I highly recommend this stable for riding lessons.

We met in the parking lot and found the REI van where they were handing out equipment and paperwork for our little adventure. Fred and Amy were their names I think and they were awesome! They did a great job leading and welcoming our group. They had great communication prior to our experience and gave us tips on what to wear and how to prepare before snowshoeing. There were only eight people allowed in the group and everyone was wearing masks. OK onto the actual snowshoeing. The equipment that we were able to rent for the day was good quality and we found out that the snow shoes that we used were over $200 if you want to buy. We dressed really warm, maybe too warm because we were sweating by the end of the hike. Our group had a diverse age range from people in their 20s too people in their what looked like 70s. There was even a kid under the age of 10 too! Snowshoeing was a lot easier than we were expecting and ended up being a really fun workout. Like I said it was great for all ages and will definitely warm you up on a 10° day! Try it out!

Of course, Camp Bullfrog is a major attraction at this site, situated on Bullfrog Lake; you can rent paces for camping anywhere from 2 or 3 days up to 10 days per month. And there's also picnic groves around the place too. There are a few port-a-potties, and there may be an actual restroom with flush toilets a bit southwest of Bullfrog Lake; I forgot to check. Nearby are Sagawau Nature Center and the Little Red Schoolhouse Nature Center, amongst other places. I should have believed the bad reviews. What a waste of $43 dollars and an hour of driving. Just…read morereturned from my daughter's first beginner lesson. She had attended beginner camp at New Traditions last week. I did see them the camp riding nose to tail on the first day of camp when I stopped back early, but the camp person claimed that was a one time thing - and that they were going to fix it by rearranging the groups and it wouldn't happen again. I'm so gullible, I believed them.) Not knowing this nose to tail - waste of time "riding" - was their standard MO, at the end of camp, we signed up for a beginner lesson. My daughter really wanted get into horseback riding. She was so excited. When scheduling the lesson, we were told we should do the Wednesday class because there were only 3 kids signed up and there were 8 in the Monday class - and that 8 was a lot so it would be better to go on Wednesday. We were told she would get so much more attention in lessons than she had gotten in camp - and that she would progress quickly because she was a "natural." Fast forward to the lesson today. We arrived today ten minutes before class, then we learned that five more kids had signed up - there were now 8 in this class. Sounded like a lot - the number that the instructor said would be difficult to get individual attention, but okay. In the next ten minutes, however, people kept showing up with Groupons - and getting added to the class. This continued until TEN minutes AFTER the class was supposed to start. By the time "class" started, there were now FOURTEEN kids in the class. Class was late starting because everybody had to wait (with the horses noses to the walls), while more kids kept getting on horses. Then, once everybody was one, they walked each horse's nose in the tail of the horse in front of it. Every time one kid stopped, the entire group stopped. My daughter learned NOTHING and had an incredibly frustrating time. The instructor taught nothing. Plus, it is DANGEROUS. One of the parents was familiar with them doing this informed me that this happens ALOT - especially when they offer Groupons. She said that sometimes a horse acts up and a lot of kids fall off. Just a little something to add to the stress level of watching this disaster of a class. The "instructor" Anne, (and I use this term loosely, because there was NO useful instruction whatsoever) left the class after about 20 minutes because she has to go out and get payments for the people coming for the 5:30pm class. For 15 minutes of the she was out in the lobby getting people and selecting horses for the next class. Meanwhile, the packed horses/children are barely moving around the ring. Anne was also apparently teaching the 5:30 class. But, she had to come out and deal with all the unhappy parents from the 4:30pm class. So, we waited in line to talk to her. We left at 5:45pm after talking to her - and there was still another person waiting. That 5:30 class was still waiting for an instructor while all this was going on. The parent in front of me explained how unsatisfied she was, and Anne told her that she needed to do private lessons, which are $70. Of course, Anne noted, private lessons do not get the ring to themselves, other students will be in the ring. Anne said that they do not limit how many horses will be in the ring during a private lesson - she refused to indicate what number of horses would be too many. When I finally got to speak to Anne, I told her how disappointed I was - and she frankly - didn't care in the slightest. She said that classes fill up and if I don't like the class I need to invest in private lessons. She also told me that having fourteen horses in that tiny arena wasn't dangerous at all. I wish I would have believed the other reviews and not wasted my time and money.
