    Pickle BALL !
    Richard L.

This is not gonna be a long review :-) you should see this place how busy it is with regards to pickle ball. Man, this is just a happening sport and I happen to stop by and watch and it is a damn zoo here. Good luck finding a parking space but it looks like fun.

I stopped here today to take photos 'cause I remembered somebody had reviewed this park. And that's when I discovered an awesome skate park. Wow, there was one guy skating there, an older guy, who might have been somebody famous. All eyes were on him, he was that good. Wish I'd asked who he was. Anyways, I didn't have much time to explore, and Joey pretty much covered the park in his review. So I'll just say that, if I counted right, there are 6 ball fields and 4 tennis courts in addition to the large skate park and a smallish kids' playground. Then there is a huge gym, apparently with basketball and volleyball, but I didn't see the inside. A posted sign says you can rent it (see my 20 photos for details on that and other stuff ). Free parking in the lot.

For a public park in LA the tennis courts here are petty decently maintained. :-)

I had called about a week ago in search for a rpm q2 paddle and they told me that they sold out, I asked them could they let me know whenever they come back in stock. Jackson was the person that I spoke with on the phone, and he gave me his personal experience with different paddles and it set and stone made me want the one I got. A week goes by, they tell me that they finally got it in stock and I immediately picked up that same night. I told them I got off at 930, and it would take me about 20 min to get there. Most places would turn me away because they're closing, but this place waited for me and allowed me to make the purchase. Thankfully, Jackson put overgrip on my new paddle and I'm ready to play. The inside of the shop was beautifully built and so bright inside. So many different options, pickleball padle. They told me they offer lessons for their sports. This place will be my go to shop when it comes to pickleball needs. Once again, thank you Jackson and the owner for having excellent customer service

It was my family's last week here in the US, and we've been climbing here for the last two summers…read morewith little issue. The staff *before* was quite friendly. I've been/was climbing for 7 years and have a good amount of belaying experience. Further, the routes are not very inclusive in terms of height at higher V levels, and do not contain as much variety. The lead/top rope walls are extremely short and barely qualify, around 15m tall. You would be better off going to Sender One in Westwood, that has a BIG variety of problems from competition to fun dynamic routes, finger strength heavy, slabs, and more (excuse my horrible description). The test was unnecessarily difficult in the sense that they need you to "describe" the knot as some "parallel lines" rather than acknowledging being able to tie it properly, due to some language barriers which prevented me from describing it properly. They only accept the "PBUS" belaying during the test, and disregards what they call the "Yosemite belaying method," which they allegedly only use outdoors?? They do not specify beforehand what sort of belaying method they wanted, and provided little information as to why when asked "we just do it that way". It is also odd because a more experienced employee has and had accepted the other format. Inconsistent. I have also been able to get the belaying license the first time round (2 years ago) using the "Yosemite belaying method." This method is the most widespread in Asia, with all belayers (coaches, climbers/friends) alike uses it. They do have a kilter board?, which can be interesting as you have access to an unlimited amount of routes which I don't see often in other gyms. There's some sort of small gym upstairs with weights, cardio equipment, and space for recovery which is convenient and comfortable to use. Bathrooms are always clean and spacious which is nice.

There are some spots reserved for Rockreation, but it wasn't clear whether it was staff or anyone could use it. Upon walking in, the staff welcomed me and directed me to waivers - the usual. Afterwards, there wasn't much of an introduction, though I wish there was. I started bouldering on one of the walls until I felt uncomfortable... it was in fact a little higher than normal. Turns out, that one is for ropes! On the topic of ropes, there are many options to climb with ropes. I navigated to bouldering, since that was my preference. The grades are a little different with some translation into V#. Pros of this? You feel less discouraged by climbs that may be hard while respecting ones that may look easy. Cons? The tags were super hard to find! Where they the small circles? The tape? There was a giant boulder in the middle of the bouldering section that was also fairly stacked with holds but not really set. Overall, I have to admit that I was underwhelmed with the bouldering options, and it is definitely one of the smaller bouldering gyms that I've been to. They do have a nice upstairs workout area, though!

The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook (also known as the Culver City Steps) is a great spot to check…read moreout for new and experienced hikers alike. I personally go for a hike every Sunday because it helps me decompress, reflect on the week that I've had, and mentally prepare myself for the week coming up/visualize future plans. Right off the bat, I'd strongly recommend planning in advance for the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook since the parking closer to the base of the trail is street parking and first come first serve. While the street parking is mostly free (there are some meters), I can't really recommend a "best" time to get there as I've gone at multiple times of the morning, afternoon, and evening, and it's generally tough to get a spot that isn't a bit of a walk away. Additionally, there is metered parking at the top of the trail, but the caveat is that you won't be able to advance the steps on your first trek if you start from the top. The steps are arguably the most attractive part of the trail since it offers a unique fitness challenge that manages to feel familiar for stairmaster users while also feeling different because of the outdoor ambiance. It also feels like something out of a training scene from a Shaw Brothers film for my fellow movie nerds. If your'e reasonably in shape, the steps likely won't be too big of an issue, but if you're fairly new to fitness/hiking, you will likely have to take breaks as you advance up the steps. That said, most people here are very supportive of one another, so if you are struggling to make it up, someone will no doubt cheer you on. Once you advance to the top of the steps, you'll have an opportunity to catch your breath, take in the beautiful skyline view of LA, and take a selfie. This is also a great opportunity to chat with fellow hikers and possibly make a new friend or two along the way. I'd suggest advancing past this rest spot and make your way to the back of the trail as it provides you with two cool options. Option 1: You can make a right while at the parking lot and do laps going up and down the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook without worrying about the steps. It is significantly less grueling than the steps, offers some additional great views of LA, and even has a few benches where one can chill and eat a snack. Option 2 (Strongly Recommend): You can make a left, walk through the parking lot, and explore a nice casual hike from the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook to the nearby Kenneth Hahn Park. I do this every time I visit the trail because it feels like a more rewarding hike that also offers some really nice views of the local area. Furthermore, this path is another way to get to Kenneth Hahn without worrying about the $10.00 entry fee should you try to enter the park that way. I've been hiking since 2020, and I can confidently say that this is one of my favorite trails. I've hiked here countless times alone, and I've also gone with less experienced friends who've also had a blast. The Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook is moderately challenging, offers some great views, is peaceful, and the food trucks at the base of the steps have a wealth of smoothies, refreshers, etc. to choose from for your pre or post hike pleasure.
