Cheeseburger all the way
Ayana S.

Had a lot of recommendations to try Melvin's out for their hamburgers as I was vacationing in White lake for the first time. The line wasn't too bad and moved very quickly. It's small and quaint, giving you that local hometown feel. The menu is simple and great prices. This is probably one of the fastest service I've ever seen as the staff were on it. I ordered the cheeseburger all the way and got a homemade sugar cookie. The burger was satisfying. I'll definitely come back and try the hotdog next!

I walked into Melvins' at 9:45am on a Saturday. I shouldn't have been surprised, but there were 15 people in front of me in line, just as many as were waiting outside of the brunch restaurant down the street. The interior is simple. Booths along one wall. Kitchen, restrooms, and cashier on the other. Like the interior, the menu is simple too. Please, for the love of all things holy, read the menu. If you don't see it there, they don't have it. The gentlemen ordering in front of me had a real challenge with that as that rattled off all the things they wanted on their burger (most of which Melvins' didn't serve). Friends, that's not a Melvins' problem. My order was inexpensive and was ready quickly. Instead of taking up a whole booth by myself, I took my hot dog outside and enjoyed sitting on a bench, eating a couple hot dogs, and living in the glory of a Fall day on a busy small town main street. That's livin'! L-I-V-I-N'!

Expect a line, but don't expect to wait long; The line moves fast. No sides really except chips. Homemade desserts (cookies and pound cake). Sweet tea is amazing. Simple menu: cheeseburger, hamburger, hotdog. Minimal toppings but still yummy. Diner style inside.

A good experience today at Melvin's. 6 burgers ordered. All were delivered the way ordered and hit from the grill. Staff was quick with service and friendly. A good value and quality burger. 99 Health Grade.

Had I never eaten in NC and visited this place supposedly being on the top 100 Best, I would have been horrified. No. This ain't it. We don't have mayo. Or lettuce. We don't have fries. We have hot dogs & burgers. Mustard, "chilli ", ketchup & onions. Hot dog is boiled, if I had to guess from the one bite. The chili is taco seasoning & water with barely sprinkles of meat. I rarely EVER leave bad reviews but this is literally the WORST hot dog I have ever bitten and What is the white blob in the meat?! You don't order a hot dog expecting a steak...but you don't order a hot dog expecting mystery orbs in it either. And should you find HALF of said mystery orb after you bite it.... My husbands burger was crunchy, no seasoning on a soggy bun. And THEN I see they were named top 100 in 2010. Obviously it is NOT under the same ownership or management that earned that.

Loved the burger and the hotdog but did not understand why they do not sell fries. Maybe it is an issue of space.

Melton's Restaurant - Hamburger with mustard, slaw, chili, hold the onions, with fries. (Oct 2025)

Bottom line: This visit to Melton's for takeout has some disappointments in an extremely long wait…read moreand fries being a bit mushy when eaten. The burger itself with mustard, slaw, chili did the trick and was pretty good. The Deets: I've had a few experiences with Melton's in Elizabethtown, the majority of which have been breakfast biscuits/sandwiches. They have been enjoyable in past visits. We decided this year when coming home from the beach and passing through E'town to grab some lunch to go at Melton's. I have to say, this visit did not hold up to past visits. When going in, it pretty much is what you would expect from a fast food type restaurant. Beyond the usual lit up menu over the ordering counter/register, there are a lot of printed paper items taped up all around as well, looking like they were possibly printed from an inkjet printer. We had a few customers in front of us that ordered then we placed our order to go, then waited. And waited. Yes, waited more. It was a long time, very much more than expected. I'm not sure what took so long, not only for us but other people that were waiting around us. Upon receiving my hamburger with mustard, slaw, chili, hold the onions, I was hungry indeed. The burger itself was pretty good. However the fries, they were not done to a crispy finish on the outside and were rather, mushy, in texture is the only word I can find...a bit disappointing. Enjoying this burger, as well as figuring good visits in the past, but disappointed by the very long wait and the fries not being crispy on the outside, I have to go 3 stars this time.

I have never saw such a beautiful chicken sandwich, let alone sub. They take their fried chicken and put it on the hoagie roll. They picked up so I didn't see the inherit of the place.

We were hungry and 'needing relief' so popped in for a bite. Three friendly ladies working the counter took our order. Prices were crazy low compared to the touristy spots we left behind in Myrtle Beach, or any in Los Angeles from where we recently moved. I wanted something a little different, so I ordered a pork chop sandwich. It was literally as the name implies, a pork chop on two pieces of white bread, bones included. I chucked a bit, and dug in. The flavor was good, and it was tender and juicy. The bathroom was another story. Sign said 'get key from store', so went in and asked for the key. Young guy at the counter handed me a ring of about 8 keys, pulled out two of them and said that it was one of these. It was not, nor was any of the others on the ring. I returned and explained, he came back with me and was equally unsuccessful. So he used one of the keys to slide behind the bolt and opened it that way. While I saw no evidence, it was quite foul-smelling, and I hurried about my business and left. I purchased two bottles of water from the lunch counter ($1 each, just like Vegas!), and we headed down the road.

I'm always impressed by a standalone hot dog place. When I finally arrived to the location, I was shocked at how big the building was. And, for a Sunday mid afternoon, there were so many cars there! Some families were dining inside, some outside on the picnic tables, and many Just sitting and eating in their cars. My kind of place! Very casual and low-key. I went inside and ordered three hotdogs. Two for myself and one for my own dog who came with me. His hot dog was playing. Mine came with chili and slaw on one and Paul's famous relish on another. I also ordered a side of fries and a fountain drink. I was shocked when they told me my order total was less than $12. My food was bagged up for me ready to go before I even handed them my card. Food was good. Nothing out of this world. Definitely not a gourmet hotdog. The hotdogs are boiled and soft, not grilled. Overall, my impressions are that this is a staple in Rocky Point. A great stop for a quick and cheap meal. Cute. FYI - They also seemed to have other sandwich items like chips, grilled cheese, ham, sandwich, etc.

I'm not gonna kid you but I did do a little research on this place before my trip and is one of the reasons I am traveling on 701 north. Most sources I gathered from other YELP! reviews. And you really have to read between the lines on some reviews, I did not let them change my mind. I need to stop here. As I arrived and located the place, it was a little tricky to park but not bad. Entered the place and it looked just like the photos online. I stepped to counter and waited behind two others and not long after I placed my order. Just a regular burger cheese w/LT and a order of fries. Now it didn't take long and my order was ready. Don't get me wrong, this place is so busy there is constantly burgers cooking on the grill. And these burgers weren't sitting around either. As soon as as it was done it was gone, as fast as they were making them they were gone. Walked over to a table with my food and drink and sat and unwrapped one of the most beautiful burgers I ever had. No complaints, bun held up thru the juiciness. LT was fresh and crisp. And the fries were just as good even though I'm not crinkle-cut type. These were crispy and soft on the inside. Hope to back this way again. Once again I found another great spot off the beaten path. What does the barber say? Who's next! Peace.
