Mel's was a perfect place to have a quiet late lunch after my grandson's birthday party. Anyhow I was craving roast turkey! I better stop watching YouTube bc I always want what they're cooking lol! So David ordered fish tacos with rice and beans. I had the roast turkey plate and upgraded to a small Greek salad which we shared. Roast Turkey slices with mash potatoes and hot brown gravy and a scoop of delicious stuffing. I won't forgot the cranberry sauce and a side of green beans. It was delish and filing and we didn't have any room for our favorite rice pudding dessert! Mel's menu is so extensive that there is always something for everyone. Had a friend visiting and we were out all day. Stopped in to Mel's Diner on Pine Island Rd. The menu is full three pages front and back with daily Specials. Our server was very friendly and accommodating but I failed to get her name. I ordered the Famous Mel's Fish Sandwich on a hoggy roll with Fries it came out hot fresh and delicious in short time. It is so great to go old school diner as I am old school. Mel's vibe is modern but hints of old diner feel. They have daily food specials and drinks specials. I got a Blood Mary it was ok nothing to brag about. The service is attentive. We got the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. They were huge and so hot had some marinara to dip. (Forgot pic). My brother had to get the foot long chili cheese dog cuz that was his favorite when we used to go to the diners as kids. He could barely finish it. I got the grilled chicken caesar salad. Checking out tables around me, I probably wouldn't come for dinner, but for a late afternoon sandwich -- sure! And it didn't hurt that I remembered to bring my 20%-off coupon. (If you're a first-timer, tell the manager. You may walk out with a coupon, as I did.) We both ordered the roast beef sandwich T got the last time, dubbed, for some reason, the Soprano. I probably could do without blue cheese crumbles, but everything else was great. The ciabatta was crisp and, while not my favorite bread, works well with the sandwich. If you go for breakfast/lunch/dinner/whatever, try their homemade key lime pie. I'm not one for accolades, but this is excellent. I would say I'll try a different dessert next time-- they're all reasonably priced -- but I like the key lime too much to deviate. read more

At 7:05 we stopped here for breakfast, always a FAVORITE of ours. Today it was the Mediterranean omelette. Yummy with olives and veggies with Feta. Their 3 egg spread is very filling. The gritsy were creamy and freshly made- just right. Our server most early mornings is Tammy, who I kid "runs the place." Excellent service, hot coffee, good food. This was my first visit to Mel's Diner. We were a party of two on a Thursday just after noon. There were plenty of patrons but not so many that it seemed crowded and we were seated immediately. The diner décor was as you might expect. I noticed it looked like it had been updated recently. Everything was clean and in good condition. My friend had the Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich which looked very nice, plated with white bread, a scoop of mashed potatoes, a generous portion of turkey and brown gravy. There was also a small container of what I believe was cranberry sauce (but could very well have been something else). She said it was good but could have used a little bit more gravy. I opted for the Better BLT. I like a good bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich but did ask what made this better, thinking it might be an additional ingredient. Our helpful server, Gator, said it was better because it was bigger. Okay, sounds good to me. It came with onion rings or french-fries or you can request a mix. I went for the mix because it was the first time I've been offered one and it made me happy. The final item on the plate was a small cup of coleslaw. The BLT was very good and a substantial meal in itself. The coleslaw was mild for my palate but was crunchy. The onion rings were a disappointment. They were battered and looked fine but the first bite was unexpectedly hot and steamy to the point that I had to rid the steam from my mouth discreetly for several moments before I could continue chewing and swallow. I waited until I finished my BLT to try again and though the onion ring had cooled it was incredibly greasy. I believe they had been put into a fryer that wasn't very hot and had soaked up a significant amount of the oil. In the end, this visit was A-okay. Gator, our server, was friendly and fun. I'd consider coming back for another meal. read more

Wow ! I had a super bowl party with friends and family from in and out of state. My wife and I frequent Mel's Diner and the food is always delicious with very generous portions and the service is outstanding. Haven't checked into this Mel's location in a while, since I moved out of the neighborhood. Don't think I'll be going back, either. Did my usual sit at the bar lunch. Was treated right away to a steady diet of f-bombs from the kitchen. I get the occasional use, like if you burn a finger or face a real frustration, but this was continual F this and F that as a conversational mode between the cooks. Fine if you want to talk like that, but not really conducive to a pleasant lunch. Ordered the lunch special, chicken parmesan. Was asked that I want as a side, soup or salad? I asked what kind of soup? Was told, then asked if I could have chili instead. Was told sure. Got a small cup of Cincinnati style chili put in front of me, okay. What came out as an entree was a couple of extra dry fried chicken breasts on a bed of mushy overcooked pasta with some undercooked red sauce. Not going to call it marinara. Ate the chicken, more or less, and called it a day. The bill comes out with a $2.70 upcharge for the thimbleful of chili I was served. Don't get the idea that I mind an upcharge on something I requested, I don't. I really do mind not being told there is an upcharge when I make the request, though. Why be sneaky about such a petty thing? Just tell me what it's going to cost if there is any charge. Extremely unsatisfactory lunch which made me feel bad about the ambiance, suspicious of the service, disappointed in the food, and gastricly challenged immediately after. Another reason to cook at home, which would have been a far better choice. Been a customer here as long as this location has been in business. Always been kind of up and down, but this was by far the low point. read more

Mel's Diner Cape Corral 3-4-25 Stopped by Mel's on Monday around 12:30pm. This place was clean, neat, and busy. We got seated right away and Dee Dee was our waitress. I ordered the Western Black Angus Chopped Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Corn. My wife and our friend ordered the Mel's Classic Cheeseburger with Cheese, Lettice, Tomato, Onions, Coleslaw, and Fries. Once our order came out my Chopped Steak was amazing. The Chopped Steak had Onions piled high on the top and lots of Gravy, it was so good. My wife and our friends Burger were done perfectly, and the Fries were just yummy and even the Coleslaw was good. All our food was hot and plenty of it as we had to get a to go box to take some home. Once done we ordered two Milkshakes, one Chocolate and one Strawberry. They were very good if you like old fashion Milkshakes get yourself one for sure. My friend and I went to Mel's today for lunch. The menu is full of home cooked goodies and I had the beacon burger which was just great. Had a hard time eating it all. My male server was the best I have ever seen, he was Johnny on the spot all during our meal and he made us feel as if we were the most important person in the dinner. We visited this location for the first time on Valentine's Day. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant had an excellent vibe. The hostess was pleasant and explained there was about a 15 minute wait. Although the place was crowded, we were seated within 10 minutes. On the way to our table, we noticed how clean the dining area was along with the delicious looking meals being enjoyed by happy customers. Our waitress ( Kierin ), introduced herself and she was a delight. Great personality, knew the menu, and shared a few suggestions for consideration. She provided excellent customer service and was the perfect compliment to a delicious breakfast. The Fort Myers location is okay - but Mel's Cape Coral sets the bar. Excellent breakfast experience. We took my nephew to lunch at Mel's Diner. It completely captures the look and feel of a diner. And is decorated nicely for Christmas. It was close to capacity, when we stopped for lunch. There was no one at the front. We did wait about 5 minutes for someone to notice and seat us. All the staff seemed extremely busy, but were all very courteous. My husband and nephew both ordered milkshakes, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Our food took quite awhile to come out. My nephew's and I ordered burgers. My husband was excited to try the Hot Brown sandwich. All of our meals came with a choice of fries and Cole slaw. The food was hot and the servings were plentiful. I have never left a bad review, but felt this was terrible. We waited over 10 minutes before we had to flag someone down just to get a cup of coffee. Our waiter did apologize. But then we once again waited over 7 minutes before anyone refilled our coffee. We felt invisible. We placed our order and it took another 25 minutes before we received our food. The only complaint with our food was the hash browns with cheese and onions. The onions were raw and the cheese was not melted. I informed our waiter and he did bring us another order. This time the cheese was melted but once again there were raw onions. They appeared seared but were crunchy. Finally we dealt with someone kicking our table the entire time. Don't blame the restaurant as we did not let them know. Overall, will not be coming back, especially on Sunday morning. We got our booth at 10:45. We ate and left quickly. You Can Never Go Wrong At Mel's Not sure where to go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack, some dessert - go to Mel's. We were out running errands on a late morning and went to an old favorite. My wife is an omelet fan and ordered a Western Style Omelet, rye toast and substituted fresh fruit instead of potatoes ($11.99). Not sure if these are two or three egg omelets, but they are big, loaded with green peppers, onion, ham and American cheese, and tastes great. The cup had a nice mix of cold crisp fruit and if you are a rye toast fan, it's spot on. I ordered off the Lunch Specials Menu - the Ranch Hand Chicken Salad ($11.59). A bed of crisp lettuce with a little spinach, topped with chopped tomatoes, eggs, bacon, cucumbers and blue cheese crumbles along with sliced fried chicken breast. Ranch dressing is on the side. This was very much like a Cobb salad and I really enjoyed it. Two diners could easily share this dish. The servers are all very friendly and Mel's never disappoints. read more

My hot roast beef sandwich was mostly Gristle, fat, and dry pieces that looked like were the last pieces left on the cutting board. MDF's salad with grilled chicken, half was burnt chicken dried up chicken breast. Soup came out without a spoon, and after requesting one from another server, after 10 min, I had to go over to the cashier to request one. Requested extra napkins three times, they never came. Service was terrible and only added to our bad dining experience. This was our first time trying Mel's. We are on vacation with family and friends and the friends recommended the burgers. We were all seated at a booth that was big enough for 8 of us. My husband and I both got the burgers which were really tasty and big. They were a deal at $10.99 each! They have a huge menu with lots of different choices! It was really hard to decide. It is served like 2 large meatballs instead of a traditional loaf. I did order the gravy on the side and am glad I did. The gravy is extremely salty so I didn't use it. My wife ordered a wrap and everything was fresh. My son ordered off of the special dinner menu with 2 entrees and 2 sides. The portions were a good size and the ribs and pulled pork tasted good and the bbq sauce was sweet but not overdone. We're visiting here for the Christmas holiday. I was hesitant about coming to Mel's based on some mixed reviews. We did not experience any of the negative issues others wrote about. We will be back before we head home. The only reason I can give this place 2 stars instead of one is because; our server was very good and the menu had a wide variety. The restaurant wasn't very clean and my food came out ice cold.
