    Footlong chili cheese dog
    Chris M.

It is so great to go old school diner as I am old school. Mel's vibe is modern but hints of old diner feel. They have daily food specials and drinks specials. I got a Blood Mary it was ok nothing to brag about. The service is attentive. We got the mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. They were huge and so hot had some marinara to dip. (Forgot pic). My brother had to get the foot long chili cheese dog cuz that was his favorite when we used to go to the diners as kids. He could barely finish it. I got the grilled chicken caesar salad. Portions are very plentiful. Asian grilled Chicken salad very good. Diners are always a good option for plenty of food and a HomeTown feel.

    Meet our dining "guests."

Service was a bit better this visit than in recent visits. Food is good, but definitely not the quality it used to be. The cabbage soup is stellar, though. Not a fan of no real choice in sides. Everything above French fries and potatoes is an upcharge, and you can't sub out the coleslaw.

    Reasonably-priced desserts

Checking out tables around me, I probably wouldn't come for dinner, but for a late afternoon sandwich -- sure! And it didn't hurt that I remembered to bring my 20%-off coupon. (If you're a first-timer, tell the manager. You may walk out with a coupon, as I did.) We both ordered the roast beef sandwich T got the last time, dubbed, for some reason, the Soprano. I probably could do without blue cheese crumbles, but everything else was great. The ciabatta was crisp and, while not my favorite bread, works well with the sandwich. If you go for breakfast/lunch/dinner/whatever, try their homemade key lime pie. I'm not one for accolades, but this is excellent. I would say I'll try a different dessert next time-- they're all reasonably priced -- but I like the key lime too much to deviate.

    These grits were exceptional.

At 7:05 we stopped here for breakfast, always a FAVORITE of ours. Today it was the Mediterranean omelette. Yummy with olives and veggies with Feta. Their 3 egg spread is very filling. The gritsy were creamy and freshly made- just right. Our server most early mornings is Tammy, who I kid "runs the place." Excellent service, hot coffee, good food. As retirees We normally don't eat so early, but Mel's is our first and best choice.

Better BLT with Onion Rings, French Fries and Coleslaw

This was my first visit to Mel's Diner. We were a party of two on a Thursday just after noon. There were plenty of patrons but not so many that it seemed crowded and we were seated immediately. The diner décor was as you might expect. I noticed it looked like it had been updated recently. Everything was clean and in good condition. My friend had the Open-Faced Turkey Sandwich which looked very nice, plated with white bread, a scoop of mashed potatoes, a generous portion of turkey and brown gravy. There was also a small container of what I believe was cranberry sauce (but could very well have been something else). She said it was good but could have used a little bit more gravy. I opted for the Better BLT. I like a good bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich but did ask what made this better, thinking it might be an additional ingredient. Our helpful server, Gator, said it was better because it was bigger. Okay, sounds good to me. It came with onion rings or french-fries or you can request a mix. I went for the mix because it was the first time I've been offered one and it made me happy. The final item on the plate was a small cup of coleslaw. The BLT was very good and a substantial meal in itself. The coleslaw was mild for my palate but was crunchy. The onion rings were a disappointment. They were battered and looked fine but the first bite was unexpectedly hot and steamy to the point that I had to rid the steam from my mouth discreetly for several moments before I could continue chewing and swallow. I waited until I finished my BLT to try again and though the onion ring had cooled it was incredibly greasy. I believe they had been put into a fryer that wasn't very hot and had soaked up a significant amount of the oil. In the end, this visit was A-okay. Gator, our server, was friendly and fun. I'd consider coming back for another meal.

Mel's Classic Cheeseburger with Cheese, Lettice, Tomato, Onions, Coleslaw, and Fries

Mel's Diner Cape Corral 3-4-25 Stopped by Mel's on Monday around 12:30pm. This place was clean, neat, and busy. We got seated right away and Dee Dee was our waitress. I ordered the Western Black Angus Chopped Steak with Mashed Potatoes and Corn. My wife and our friend ordered the Mel's Classic Cheeseburger with Cheese, Lettice, Tomato, Onions, Coleslaw, and Fries. Once our order came out my Chopped Steak was amazing. The Chopped Steak had Onions piled high on the top and lots of Gravy, it was so good. My wife and our friends Burger were done perfectly, and the Fries were just yummy and even the Coleslaw was good. All our food was hot and plenty of it as we had to get a to go box to take some home. Once done we ordered two Milkshakes, one Chocolate and one Strawberry. They were very good if you like old fashion Milkshakes get yourself one for sure. I must give this Mel's 5 out of 5 stars for the great service from Dee Dee, the good food and great Milkshakes. Follow Me On FB For More Reviews Gulf Coast Terry

One last thing that is not food/drink related is this, the bathrooms had signs that said "inclusive". I cannot stress how important and compassionate this is, especially during this time in our society. This shows that you as a company, value everyone who comes in to dine here regardless of who they are. The only negative for this place, and it really isn't a negative, is that you don't have another location in Winter Garden/Orlando Florida. If you did,we would be regulars.

Holy Crap, it was an easy top three burger. Hard to eat though with a constant smile on my face. The gender assigned bathroom was clean and decorated with beer company placards on the walls and cracked cement industrial flooring. Perfect addition to the rest of the pub.

I had a superb braised short rib on a mushroom truffle risotto. The short rib was clearly not a short rib ( I suspect a nice size serving of chuck, well trimmed and perfect cooked) because of its leanness and size. Whatever it was it was delicious. The risotto was perfectly timed and delicious as well. I chose the Billionaires Bacon as a starter. It was great and a very generous portion. Service (Katherine) was excellent.

I'm not sure if this made her angry but we sat for about 20 min after that while she heavily served the people next to us with no waters or anything and also worked behind the bar... When she finally came over we gave our drink order and put in an app. We ordered the calamari and I ordered an espresso martini. Both were great! She still seemed to be taking so so long in between ordering. Our whole dinner took over 3 hours from 7:30, passed 10 For dinner I ordered shrimp scampi which was also so so good and for dessert we ordered the cheese cake which was also solid! I'm not sure I'd go back, for the price and amount of food they serve just didn't seem worth it to me as none of us had left overs but overall a solid meal

The lobster itself was good, just not the best I've ever had and a little on the tougher side. The mashed potatoes, however, were incredible and tasted totally homemade -- easily the best part of the plate. The broccoli was simple but good. Overall, a really enjoyable meal with great chowder, tasty appetizers, and standout mashed potatoes.
