Eggnog Latte (seasonal), Lavender Almond Coffee Cake, Spinach and Feta Quiche
Dana S.

I had never heard of this place before visiting and didn't have super high expectations from looking at the outside - I basically only gave it a chance because it was the only coffee shop I could find on Davie with outdoor seating. Thankfully, my doubts were totally unfounded! This place is friendly and cozy, and the food is wonderful! The food selection isn't huge but they have a good variety of sweet and savoury options. Although they were very busy I still felt the staff was attentive and patient. I tried the spinach and feta quiche, lavender almond coffee cake, and (seasonal) eggnog latte. The quiche had a pleasant texture. It came with a slice of tomato and spoon of hot sauce which was interesting. It was nice and hot when they served it and it had a fresh taste. The cake slice was huge and decadent - it was drizzled with a caramel syrup and sprinkled with powdered sugar in addition to being topped with a thick coating of frosting. The cake itself wasn't too sweet though so things balanced out. I loved the strong lavender flavour. Eggnog latte was nice - the eggnog flavour was mild but definitely present and the coffee itself (or maybe just because of the pairing) had a very smooth taste.

Best cafe in the West end. Been coming here since 1997. Great cafe and food. And the locals are truly diverse and awesome.

Oversized muffins on Melriches sidewalk patio is a great way to ease into your weekend. Entrenched in the community, you'll feel like you're at home on your first visit.

I am sucker for local indie cafes. I was walking around at saw this location, so I stopped by for a quick latte. The service was quick and the vanilla latte was decent but the Croissant was a little firm. The atmosphere was calm and no rush.

Great little coffeehouse in the heart of the Pride District. If you want diversity, good food and coffee stop here. The place is also licensed, so you can have a drink instead if that is your cup of tea. They have a wide selection of teas also. Food is made fresh on site, which is a bonus and includes bakery and all-day food items.

A complete waste of money.... Our drinks taste like water. So ridiculous. And they were rude. What a disappointment.

We ordered the following: Tiramisu Latte Caprese Bite London Fog Apple Cookie Cherry Matcha Tonic Tiramisu Sea Salt Caramel Gelato The Cherry Matcha Tonic was pretty but wasn't too crazy about the flavor. I should have just gone with my original gut instinct and chosen a hot beverage like Hojicha Latte or something like that. I was sort of thirsting for something cooler for a change though, and the Cherry Matcha Tonic was the first "cool" drink that caught my eye so I decided to go for it. Won't do that again. Everything else was good though. The Sea Salt Caramel Gelato was the star of the show! In the store there's a sign beneath their gelato section that says "Canadian Gelato Champion". I believe it after tasting the Sea Salt Caramel! They had Nama Chocolates too. I was tempted to get some but...only so much a person's wallet and waistline can handle at one time. Will try the Nama Chocolate some other time. You can order in person here, or you can place an "Express" order at the Kiosk. We tried both ways of ordering. Ordered at the counter first and then after finished my Cherry Matcha Tonic decided I wanted to try the Sea Salt Gelato so then tried ordering that from the Kiosk. Most of the parking in this area is paid but I lucked out and got a free spot right around the corner from this place!

Knowing how good 49th Parallel is with coffee I thought I'd try their version of the London Fog. I wasn't disappointed. In fact it was best London Fog I've ever had. I've had them at other places but I've never seen a preparation like 49th. They use loose leaf Earl Gray tea in a tall paper tea bag. They put the bag in your cup pour the steamed milk in and the tea steeps right into the milk. It's the smoothest London Fog I've had and isn't cloyingly sweet like many I've had.

I was in need of a snack and this was a short walk from our hotel. 49th Parallel is well known for their thoughtfully sourced, house-roasted coffees and their cult-favorite donuts, but they also offer a small menu of sandwiches if you're looking for something more filling. It wasn't too busy when we got there, though most of the tables were taken. We ordered a mix of sweet and savory: the chestnut brûlée donut, a salted caramel old fashioned, and a couple of breakfast sandwiches--the Doug and the Cascadia--both served on soft, buttery brioche buns. My other half also grabbed an Americano to go with it all. The chestnut brûlée donut was my fav of the bunch. The chestnut flavor was perfectly balanced--nice and light. The sandwiches were also good, especially thanks to that pillowy soft brioche. Overall, 49th Parallel was the perfect stop for a small, simple snack! Would recommend.
