Melonpan is a famous sweet bread in Japan. You will find it in any bakery, supermarket or convenience store. Although it is named after the fruit, there is nothing to do with it. It is only the shape, given by the crispy crust on the top of it that somehow reminds a melon.
So this tiny bakery is named after this bread and I had high expectations to find a nice one. There are several options including chocolate and peanut, together with other savory breads in Japanese style but I ordered the traditional one for take out.
The conclusion is: there is nothing that reminds a melonpan. The crust was not crispy, which might be a sign that the bread was from a batch of couple of hours before. And though there was a custard filling, the taste was just okay.
Having said that, the shop itself is well located and each item is individually wrapped. I also tried a savory option and for my surprise the sausage bread was way better than the sweet options.
