I'm not particularly worried about giving this spot 5-stars for fear of making it popular with the younger set of foodies, thereby ruining it. No. Not going to happen. Not when customers drape themselves in American flags and NRA hats. No way. The LA set...even today's OC set and SGV set will have a safe-space nervous breakdown if they enter this oasis of authentic Americana that still lives and breathes--with no cell or internet service to speak of. The food was excellent. The environment is beautiful, inside and out. The family who owns the establishment were extremely friendly and gracious. And we loved the people that we met here. It's not about the politics. Who the hell agrees with everyone and everything. But this is the old America, the old California that I dreamed of. Where people were cool, honest, fun and not infused with PC-totalitarianism. It's like Andy's Mayberry. A place out of time or space. Pleasantville with a dash of color. So worth visiting and spending a few hours. Wonderful people to talk to and proof that you can escape from the vapid cultural wasteland that is LA, even for a little while, if you know where to go. We were camping at Bonita Campground and asked the manager Joe where the best food in town was. He boldly stated, "Melody's Place". Joe was so right! The welcome home feel of the restaraunt was just the start. The food was fantastic! Grammy even bought us over some of her home made white chocolate covered popcorn. We loved the dinner so much that we came back for breakfast the next day. Grammy even has a cute gift store where we bought som gnome statues. We WILL definately be back! Me and my family usually stop by here when we camp at Mt Lakes Lytle Creek. The service is always on point. Family owned business. Store, bar, restaurant in one. Food is good. Ordered the hamburger, steak sandwich, country fried steak and spaghetti special. Breakfast is good here as well. It's always great service when I go. My kids love to come since it's a small town mom and pop vibe. They find the history of the place very interesting also. Reminiscent of an old country family diner, Melody's Place comes to mind. A small and cozy little diner furnished with a bar toward the side and general store, Melody's Place reminds me of a place straight out of a small American town. It is to say, that I couldn't check into Melody's Place for an in-store review because my carrier just didn't have any reception up there in Lytle Creek. In terms of service, the staff were very friendly. There was only one server, and she always had a smile on her face. However, I personally feel that the restaurant needed at least one more server. While the restaurant was cozy, I felt that the one server was feeling a bit of pressure from serving at least 6+ tables and the bar. --The Food-- Returning down from the firing line, I was hungry for a hearty brunch. With the arrival of my steak and eggs (over easy), and pastrami burger, I was a bit underwhelmed at the amount of food. The steak was around 6oz non-seasoned, a small serving of hash browns, and your 2 slices of buttered toast (sourdough, white, or wheat). I personally felt that there could have been a bit more hash. My two eggs over easy were fine. As for the pastrami burger, I didn't realize that fries were an add-on. Nevertheless, it was a nice burger - but definitely not filling by itself for the price. Lastly, the orange juice was around $3 a cup. The orange juice I was served in, was a small old fashioned whisky glass. In comparison with the mainstream diners like IHOP, Denny's, etc. It was about 1/3 the amount of a tall glass that you get. A bit underwhelming for $3, I was hoping for more. --Last impressions-- The TV at the bar was screening "Mystic Pizza". Nice decor, geared for Halloween. I personally felt that there should have been another server, so that the one server wasn't overwhelmed with having to serve nearly a full house. Overall, I had a nice experience. A definite A-OK. Wow! We went camping at Bonita and to the creek for the weekend. My family went Fri to get some food without me and it was my ladies birthday. To make a long story short they treated her and my family like their own! Great food, large portions and the atmosphere was awesome! Little quaint old school food establishment ran by a family. Cool little bar and it felt like we were at home. She liked it so much she had to take me back there to get some appetizers and drinks. I had a great experience and we are talking about driving back there sometime just to get dinner. There are not many places like this anymore, far and few between but this one is a diamond in the ruff! Thank you to Melody and her family for the warm hospitality and great eats! This is a small, eclectic convenience store, restaurant and bar that has been serving the Lytle Creek area for a long time. I brought a group of 12 here today for a birthday celebration after a morning at Lytle Creek Firing Line. Our arrival was a surprise and clearly caught the staff off guard. There were three other tables of customers when we arrived. I had been here twice before in the last year with smaller groups and had no complaints. We had to split the group into several checks which seemed to initially irritate the server. Drink orders came after a couple of reminders. The food came a little while later. There were a couple of mistakes (missing bacon on the bacon burger, extra pickles instead of no pickles, etc.) which we overlooked because we felt we contributed to the confusion. The food was fresh and tasty. The fries were perfect. I am certain that if we had a smaller group there would have been no issues. I will call ahead next time if I have a large group. read more

My wife and I visited Melody's Grill and had an excellent lunch. I had the tuna melt and my wife had the hamburger melt and they're both extremely delicious. We were quite pleased with the quaint restaurant with all the wall hangings that were amazing to look at. We will definitely come back here in the near future. read more

Three dinners in a row, consistently terrible. It looks and tastes like no one cares, or there are no adults working in the evening. I'm an understanding person about pandemic, being short handed or a bad night. Sadly, the last ,meal I ordered, (and it will be the last time I pay for food or tip those women) was the worst I've had in any restaurant in my life. There's plenty of help, they just dont care. The friday tri-tip special was the center of the cut and tough, grey and smelled boiled or something. It was well past,well done into another category steak should NEVER be in. If "offended" was a way to order steak, this would be it.. no chef, cook, dad, or otherwise would cook eat or serve a steak this way. If someone asked, it better be a little kid cause this just isn't done. it was offensive to the spirit of meat science. I asked for medium rare, she barked at me in a husky smoker's voice, "no, theres no choice. I thought she was kidding. I wasn't asking if my friend could sleep over, or if she could lend me money, but she talked to me with the same familiarity that is usually the dominion of pissed off aunts and crusty old bus drivers. I almost cancelled but she attempted to persuade me that it was good. I wanted to be polite and support small business, so I went through with it. 25 min later, I get cold, inedible, rude tri tip. I think people around here are too kind hearted to tell them that their food is terrible. I was. My dog barely wanted the so called- steak. It went to the trash with the rest of the meal. It was beyond steak sauce even. It is obvious they dont know how to grill meat. So, dont sell it. It's not free. 20$ later, and poor service, inedible dinner; I was disappointed I even tipped them well. The au gratin potatoes were just like Betty Crocker's boxed flavor but chewy and also tepid temp. I didn't even consider the bacon green beans at that point but they looked overdone and tired. I'm pretty sure that since they are NOT wearing masks, they dont care about food handling practices either. The previous meals I ordered, weren't as bad but they weren't good... taco bell is better and that's...ew. I wouldn't eat there if it were free. Someone should hire a cook or two and waitresses that arent entitled toothless and rude. If you're going to be cheeky-turse, and cras to your customers, your food better be at least edible. Nothing will get better if no one says anything. Its a cute place, potential abounds. read more

I love this small mountain town type of place, even though its only like 12 miles from my house in Fontana! I came in, asked if I could sit anywhere and was told yes of course! Sat down at a table and was immediately asked what I would like to drink, brought menus, etc. I ordered the fried chicken plate and a beer. Their bar is small but fully stocked with anything you could want. The food was really really good, I told the waitress it was the best home cooked meal that ive had at a restaraunt ever! haha. Stopped and sat at the bar. Locals and the Bartender were very friendly making us feel very comfortable. The recommended Bloody Mary was amazing....hardly left any room for the Mary Mix with all the vodka that filled (both) of my glasses. My pastrami melt and fries was cooked to perfection and delicious tasting. Pastrami plate, Burger lunch and 3 Bloody Mary's was $35...very cheap. Beware this business doesn't follow COVID-19 guidelines, my wife and I went in to get something to eat. Overwhelmed by the cigarette smoke from those's at the bar, was seated inside and given used menus. While waiting for the sever we noticed the server not wearing gloves while handing plates of food. The server return holding our drinks with their fingers cupping the rim of the glass. We made a comment about how the glasses where handled and was given nasty attitude. While camping at Mountain Lakes (they have a very average cafe) my friend and I chose to drive 1 miles back to the main part of Lytle Creek and eat at Melody's. We were delighted with the fair prices, excellent food, and very friendly service. We ate there a total of 5 times during a 4 day stay and the food was consistently wonderful. My boyfriend took me here today for sentimental reasons. He stumped into this little cafe five years ago and ordered their fried chicken with mashed potato. And ever since that day he always wanted to come back again. We enjoyed our meals and the service, the food was very good! The food was really good and I strongly recommend getting the puff corn! I would give more stars but the atmosphere was a little strange. There were a lot of locals at the bar which I thought was really cool, except for the one lady that kept walking around eating food she was pulling from her purse. Our waitress was friendly but at first made us feel as if maybe we were an inconvenience. We were the only ones in the dining area and clearly visiting from a different area and a comment was made about catering to locals. I would give this place another shot for sure though. read more

Although my parents and their friends liked this place, their opinion is quickly changing. Customer service has been taking a nose dive. My first visit this past weekend started with us seating ourselves in the back, being ignored, reseating ourselves up front, receiving menus... but... our order was never taken. We were really surprised with this little cafe, where we had lunch,my picky husband had BLT which I would never order if I've never been to the restaurant before but he said the sandwich was great with nice slabs of lean bacon. My grown daughter had a turkey sandwich which she fully approved of and I had tuna sandwich. All excellent. The vintage building is a real treat too. Over 100 years at least. We ate here two mornings in a row while we camped at Applewhite Campground, just about a mile north of Melody's. Each time we were so pleased with the service, and quality of the food and coffee. The portions are huge--just as I feel they should be in a homey, rustic spot like this. I ordered the breakfast special each morning--first it was was a pork roast breakfast skillet with eggs and potatoes and then it was an enchilada omelette with choice of refried beans or potatoes. The skillet was amazing and the omelette was fine. My boyfriend tried the French Toast and the Pancakes. He thought the pancakes were some of the best he has ever had, but I think the value was swaying his opinion just a little bit (2 huge, plate-sized, pancakes for $3.00). Coffee was GOOD! The decor was so cute and it created a great vibe for us city-folk who were hoping to escape everything LA. The service was so friendly and they recognized us the second morning and remembered little things about our preferences (hot sauce, lots of coffee refills, etc.). I would recommend this restaurant to anybody who is looking for a big hearty meal because the food is great for the price and it is a happy place. read more

SHE IS THE BEST!!! This place is a TOTAL mom n' pop shop. whenever i come here i always feel like a part of them even though i have been in there for months. if you come in the morning on the weekends make sure to get the B n' G's (my lingo for biscuits n gravy and sausage) or the pastrami cheese burgers.
