My wife and I booked our New Years Eve dinner and dancing at Melodia Restaurant. Against my better judgement, as there were numerous below average reviews on this restaurant. However, we were short on time and the places we really wanted to go were booked. Lesson in itself there.
I phoned the restaurant and the owner told me that there was still space available, but I would have to purchase the dinner and show in advance. Which I did.
We showed up at 8:15pm and then were ushered to the coat check. I was surprised to see two children (no more than 8 or 9 years old) taking money and working the coat check room. We were then brought to our little table beside the washroom doors.
We sat there waiting for an employee to come over to take our order or at least start the process off with a drink order or something. Not one single person came to our table for at least an hour. An hour of sitting there being ignored. I should have got up and walked out then, but I figured they already had my money. Finally a bartender came over and said "has anyone taken care of you yet?" We said no, and she could tell we were not happy. At roughly 9:30 we received our first drinks. Still no dinner. We waited another 15min for someone to take our order. By this time, I was almost too upset to eat. However, we tried as it was New Years and we had already paid. Quickly the courses were brought out, food quality was not very good. We were starving though. Finally the main came, New York Strip Steak. I took one bite of the steak and sent it back. It was tainted! After all this, we received a sour steak. I demanded to speak to the owner. He was unapologetic, saying the wait wasn't that bad, they were busy, the steak was not bad...etc. Every condescending excuse in the book. I said I wanted my money back. We left empty handed, and empty bellied. Melodia is unwilling to return my money. I am in the restaurant business and have never seen an attitude like this from an owner. It is management 101 that you always treat your guests with respect, listen to them and try to rectify a situation before they leave your restaurant and head out to the review boards. Well, the owner of Melodia does not seem to concerned with what his diners have to say or frankly, offering them value for their money. They just want to take our money. I have recently spoke with others who have dined there and they, for the most part, feel the same. Poor food quality, poor service and management. That's my story...take my advice. Stay away! Spend your money somewhere else. read more
