The service isn't really good. I have been multiple time because my kids love pizza and they love they way it looks inside. But again the service is just poor, the servers and bartenders( have gone both with and without children) act like you're just an inconvenience and drop beers, disappear, drop part of your order and tell you the other part will be out shortly. My wife and I were making a 12 hour drive from Alexandria, VA down to Florida with our 2 year old in toe. When we finished day at Savannah, the hotel recommended Mellow Mushroom as a place good for kids. The restaurant is very convenient to the interstate (as was our hotel), so it only took a few minutes to get to. When we entered, the restaurant just screamed FUN! What else could it be with a Spiderman on the ceiling. Our kid almost went into overload with all of the stuff he could look at. The staff, hosts and wait staff, were incredibly nice and perfectly willing to work with a kid who had been cooped up in a car all day and just wanted to let loose. The drink menu was perfect for Mommy and Daddy who had been cooped up in a car with a 2 year old all day. Most of their specialty drinks involve basil. One might think that it wouldn't work, but the drinks we had were delicious, refreshing, and just plain different. The pizza was delicious. We had the 'mighty meaty', which was just the right over-the-top balance of meats to keep one going after a long journey. I just discovered that there is a branch in Washington, DC. Yeah, well, I knew that one of these days I would turn into the stereotypical "grumpy old man" who does nothing but wax nostalgic about the "good old days" and the way we used to do it back then ... But seriously folks, this isn't what REAL pizza is all about. I grew up wolfing down New York style pizza by the slice, without all the sideshow activities and excessive noise that the chains think they need today to pull in endless crowds of salivating tweens. I like the Mellow Mushroom in downtown Savannah, but this location is nothing more than a McDonald's Playland on steroids, with overpriced pizza for sale. $25 for a large pie? I'm thinking there is some sort of cross promotion here with some of the motion picture studios, but that would brand me a conspiracy theorist, too--in addition to being a culinary curmudgeon. To be honest, I'm sick of them all: Domino's, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar's, and ye Mellow Mushroom. Next stop? The restaurant supply house to get me a pizza stone and some dough. Pizza was extremely average. The whole pie was "meh" and pretty flavorless. It also was not served with the tzatziki, as billed. Our server took our drink order, dropped the drinks and disappeared. We had to search her out to order and then to pay. The restaurant is deafening, which was good for covering up our screaming, hungry two-year old, but still not fun. Terrible service! The waitress was terrible! She didn't give us silverware or napkins even after we requested it! We love Mellow in our family! Wednesdays are trivia nights. Starts at 8 and it's a lot of fun. The key to Mellow is getting one of the specialty pizzas. The Thai pizza sounds weird, but it's so so good. The Bayou Bleu is heavy, but delicious. The gourmet white is also a great go-to. The calzones are huge-- easily 2 meals. As others have said, great beer selection too. They also have hoagies and salads (though the salads can get pricey if you're making your own). They only reason I give 4 stars is because the service is great one day, horrible the next. They're all nice, but there are a few waitresses that rarely come around. This location is in the burbs where soccer mom, SUV/Mini van driving 20 MPH below the speed limit rule the road, so don't expect an eclectic feel like the Liberty St location or my favorite in mid-town ATL on Peachtree St. If you like Transformer & Ironman decor you'll love this location. The pizza was delicious. Everyone at our table enjoyed their own. What really impressed me was the guys behind the counter. My son walked up to the counter and asked them to flip pizza dough. They had him pull up a chair from the other side, stand on it and gave him his own dough. They proceeded to show him how to make his own, how to toss it, and even showed off for him! After watching him toss the pizza in the air a few times they had him pat it down and actually gave him sauce and cheese to make it. They cooked it and hand delivered it to him! THATS A CLASS ACT! Mellow mushroom is always a good place to stop for pizza or a bomb calzone. If you have multiple people to feed then the pizza is definitely the way to go although my boyfriend and I always get calzones because they are delicious. I really like that they have a ladies night too although I've only been once. I believe it's half off wine and appetizers, but don't quote me on that! Enjoyed my experience here. Love the way they decorated the place. When you walk in the front door you're greeted by a huge transformers statue, Iron Man is outside. We just happen to make it there right as happy hour was beginning(it's 3-7pm). Their happy hour specials are really good and meatball is $1, a slice of pizza is $2 and their draft beers are $3! I got a meatball and it was really good I also got the draft beer I can't remember the name but it had strawberries and if used it and it was some of the best beer I've ever had. The service was very good but the wait times were unusually long. I love, love, loved the pizza! I ordered a specialty pizza called the great white for take out. The person on the phone was friendly and polite and helped ensure that no sun dried tomatoes ended up on the finished product and even offered to add a substitution, so I added sausage. They said there'd be a 20 minute wait, but the pizza was ready early. The person at the counter had me open the box and check to make sure everything was ok before I headed out the door and then jogged away to grab some Parmesan cheese. The pizza looked so perfect and mouth watering and I had to eat a slice in the car on the way to my destination. Delicious. We visit lots of M.M.'s and this one was a disappointment sadly. 1st bar was good and bartenders Jesse and Jacqueline were great! Beverages cold and tasty. It was happy hour and we were starving from our day. DW ordered large chef salad with the $1 pretzel to come out the same time. I ordered two meatballs $1 ea and a large meatball on multigrain with extra cheese all to come out at the same time. It was 5:30pm The results: food came out whenever it came out- even bartenders shrugged their shoulders. Salad came w/o cheese that was supposed to be on it. Meatball sub came out on a rye bun rather than multigrain. Meatballs came out 7 minutes early so they lost some heat as I wanted to fill that sucker up. Reminded me of 1950-60 science fiction themes! BUT! ENOUGH of decor! FOOD! We came because I've become very aware of gluten. For nearly 30 years. Right. So when I heard that Mellow Mushroom has dedicated allergen preparation for gluten free products, we had to explore. And the kitchen is VERY accommodating! We shared the hummus plate, substituting carrots and celery for pita bread.--perfect because hubs likes carrots and I like celery. It was flavorful! Enough garlic and spice to entice yet not overwhelm. We ordered a small gluten free pizza with ground beef and pineapple. The crust was really good, writes someone who's been very disappointed with GF products! The ground beef was seasoned and nicely crunchy. I have happy memories of brownies with hot fudge sauce and ice cream but got smart. (I've been GF diligent for 9 weeks!) So we enjoyed vanilla ice cream with a bit of hot fudge sauce! And so, I have to heap appreciation upon our server, Lindsey! She smiled and sparkled throughout our questions and changes and choices. She was polite and accommodating, attentive yet not invasive. Mellow Mushroom's as a whole have decent food and this one is no exception. The atmosphere is fun for families with Spider-Man hanging on the ceiling. Having said that, they need to work on the speed in the kitchen, and some common sense when serving. What restaurant serves all of the adults at the table first and then several minutes later serves the children ???? One of the better Mellow Mushrooms I've experienced. The bar is massive and the bartenders are experts in their field. The draft beer selection is comprehensive and never disappoints. They even serve high-gravity brews in special, goblet-like glasses. The pizza and salads are standard fare for Mellow Mushroom, but are high quality and the service is phenomenal. I highly recommend the Kosmic Karma with buffalo chicken, or a chopped "build your own" salad. The restaurant is always clean and well maintained.
