Little context here I was in the market for an attorney after having a bad experience with the first one. Basically I took a knife to a gun fight and realized quickly the lawyer I had was NO match for my ex's attorney. Enter, Traci Pickering and team. From our initial conversation I knew she was the one for me and someone I could count on to get the job done! From start to finish she listened to understand my situation and was very compassionate to my circumstances. I served 21 yrs in the Military and during my service was deployed on multiple occasions resulting in me missing out on time with my daughter while serving. When the opportunity presented itself I took a billet that was close to my daughter so I could spend time with her and work on our relationship. I moved within 10 miles of my daughter and was not allowed to pick her up or get her for extended periods of time. It was a very stressful period of my life and so I hired an attorney to help get a court ordered schedule in place so I did not have to ask for permission to see my daughter. For over a year I was using another much bigger firm, Hoover, who were always right on time with billing (a lot$), but as for many other things you were treated as just another client, often taking 3 or more emails just to get an answer to a relevant question. I was filing for divorce, and ask this firm to look over my paperwork basically to make sure it doesn't get rejected or missing any forms needed. Due to covid, they weren't able to meet with me so everything was over the phone and through email for communication. They charged me for one hour, and at the end my paperwork still got send back by the court and I had to googled and find answers to correct the mistake that this firm failed to helped me on. I think the price they charged and the service provided wasn't bad until my paperwork was sent back. In 2019, I interviewed the best and elite law firms, because they were based in Willow Glen, now, I know, even if they're on Rodeo Dr, that might not be a true indicator of there work, I approached some firm several times in a day, I was so afraid to start this process, but I knew I needed to leave my marriage, to save myself. Once I got up the nerve to make an appointment, I entered, the first senior attorney gave me very good advise on how to get started and survive, she even made sure I was safe after I left, she advised me on money issues, thank you, that was heartfelt. You always need someone with you, when you seek attorneys, always. Then my case went to a junior attorney, let's just say I paid for her training $$$$$$,with money I didn't have, if you've never been pimped,for money, you're constantly billed, then we entered the pandemic and nothing was completed from there on alot of calls, alot of paperwork, duplicates, etc I still incurred bills, no divorce, approx 2.5 yrs. I will add the problem, my case was difficult to deal with, and a junior attorney wasn't ready to handle my type of case, coming from a 30 yrs marriage You need to be focused, straighten your crown and completely understand what you're about to enter. Difficult to: Stop your crying and emotions and listen and understand what they're telling you, your retainer will only rise, you will not be able to make money fast enough to keep up with the bills. Then you have to think which was worst the marriage or the divorce process? You're paying for your freedom. From my experience to divorce anyone, when you have property together is painfully difficult, and just remember the attorneys have seen so many of these cases, they are numb to your pain, the most awful experience, money rules ( but you can't take it with you) divorce, love, survival. Prepare to tell your story approx 100 more times, relive the pain. What I learned is when attorneys take your case, you're vulnerable and need help, to get out of the situation, you'll need money, millions and no one cares, just pay the bill and they'll leave you alone for a minute.The problem is the attorneys make so much money, not realizing a normal working person, doesn't make $10,000 or $20,000 a day. What I've learned Unfortunately, it took me some time, to move onto another attorney, you will receive hints, when it's time to move on, because I have to get out of this and learned, No one has your best interest at heart but you, be your own advocate. read more

I've had full physical custody of my two boys since my divorce in 2011. They're father moved out of state and although I was willing to work with him on visitation, he felt like I was being unfair. When he served me with custody papers, I was so worried and anxious of what was to come. I have always tried to do what's in the best interest of my boys, but I was worried that maybe he would not be reasonable with what he wanted versus what I was proposing (which is exactly what happened). I had a terrible experience with this law firm. I was looking for an attorney to represent me in my divorce so I set up a free consultation to see if this would be a good fit. I called in, they asked me a few questions, then they set up a consultation with Jessica Pellorin. I set this up on a Thursday and they couldn't see me until the following tuesday, which was fine until I got a call the night before saying Jessica had something conflicting with this appointment. So I had to wait even longer to meet and consult with her. Once I actually had a consultation with Jessica she was so rude, degrading, and made me feel as though all of my questions were a waste of time. She would talk to me as if I knew what all of this lawyer jargon means... that's what I needed her for. Jessicas long pauses and inexcusable exhales after I would ask a question about what she was trying to "explain" to me. Jessica Pellorin is so rude, made me feel worse and more stressed out than I did before the call. I am so glad this was just a consultation, because I could not imagine paying someone to treat me this way. DO NOT BOTHER with this law firm. I found a new lawyer right away that made me feel important and like I am their number one priority right from the start. I never had a need for her to represent me in court, but I sure would not have wanted to go up against her! Jessica was extremely responsive to calls and emails, and I felt that she listened carefully to what I was saying and crafted each document to match my specific circumstances; I recommend Jessica whole-heartedly. Mello & Pickering's support staff are top-notch too, by the way. Overall, Mello & Pickering is not cheap. But this is a situation where you get what you pay for -- if you want a top-shelf cocktail, you can't expect to pay well prices. I have to first say that Mello and Pickering did help me make progress in gaining joint legal custody of my daughter--and also helped increase my time-share as well. My child is the most important aspect of my life--and hiring representation was the only way to navigate through the system. Pros: -For the most part the staff was competent -They filed all paper-work promptly -Most of the attornies seemed to have a good grasp on family law, as expected Cons: -I had to work with 3 separate attornies (the initial attorney went on maternity leave--which made me wonder why she was put on the case) through-out the process -It cost about $7,000 (apparently my case was simple) in less than 3 months--some phone calls were around $150--and to show up in court for an hour was $600.00 -I felt I was asked to go to hearings unnecessarily--which cost a lot of $$ -Once my retainer was up--I felt like the lawyers were bill collectors, which was awkward Over-all, like I said, Mello and Pickering helped me make progress--but I truly feel like $7,000 is an absurd sum of money for the work put into my case...if mine was simple, i'd hate to see the bill on a complicated case. I decided to finish the process on my own--and move forward without their representation--we had another hearing scheduled for late Feb--but seriously, by that time, i'd have been paying around $10,000. I would never feel like an ethical person/business charging people this amount of money--but parents are forced to get lawyers as the family law system is really disorganized/confusing. I truly feel bad for fathers/mothers who can't afford bloated fees and simply want to have an equitable agreement with the other parent. I urge anyone looking for legal counsel to check-in with as many lawyers as possible before choosing one...all are pretty costly, but I feel maybe there's firms that will treat their clients better. In the future--I hope never to have to jump into the family law realm again--and that my daughters mother and I can move forward more civially. Went through a divorce and need legal representation. Traci was recommend through a friend of a friend as being a strong and effective lawyer. I felt confident with Traci and her abilities from the first consultation. She is very thorough and let me know my options and always felt I was more than adequately represented. I never saw myself hiring a divorce attorney, and I can tell you first hand there is a very wide range of quality of representation in this profession. At least 3 attorneys never called me back. Their staffs did, but only to let me know how much they would need up front. While law is a business, I found these practices treated their clients as money funnels and couldn't care less about the specifics of the case or whether or not their clients felt comfortable in their hands. Family law clients are always at their most vulnerable, so finding an attorney you can trust with your life and future is paramount. In the end Traci Pickering was recommended to me by a friend, and her behavior couldn't be more different. She not only talked to me and laid out the worst case scenario of my situation, but she also offered to come on as a consultant to save me money. In the end I needed to go to full representation and she was very conscientious about my funds, her and her staff fees, and was extremely responsive to any questions and concerns. Please keep in mind my experience happened on or around - Thursday, August 19, 2010 10:57 AM. I mention this in all fairness. (Perhaps they have changed?!) My experience was not good here. For $2,500+ I really didn't get anything here except aggravated. They prepared an initial response (Divorce) but never filed it. After I fired the Firm, they charged me another $150 for administrative fees. When I politely asked them to waive this extra charge (Since they really didn't do anything, or to meet me half way / waive half of the $150) my request was denied. When I went to the self-help area after this experience (Santa Clara Legal Help on Notre Dame) they mentioned that not filing a response was a "Rookie Mistake" ... In the end I paid $2,650 to speak with the Firm, trade a few emails, and have them prepare a response only for them not to file it with the court clerk and squeeze me for another $150... My overall experience = terrible. read more

Incompetent and unethical I just fired Traci Pickering who failed to apply the basic law: a 3044 finding 5 years ago has no legal standing, failed to layout legal options before hearing, instead letting OP counsel subpoena a key person, failed to argue against OP's accusation with obvious facts ( Judge rescued me by asking a very simple question: was there a rebuttal? ) While she charged me about 2000 dollars on preparing for the hearing, the Judge, (according to Traci, only was inexperienced and was only on bench for 2 years) was wickedly smart. Traci failed not only on bigger issue but also failed on small things such as extending deadline. I asked " if there is anyway to extend the deadline, I mean anyway" answer from her is no way, then I drafted a letter, instructed the firm to negotiate with OP, then extension! An attorney with 17 years experienced attorney couldn't deliver of what I made happen. Why shall anyone pay for this poor quality of work? I mean am I supposed to tell her what to do? And coach her on strategy while paying 400 dollars an hour? Some people are just incompetent and she absolutely is, but she chooses to be unethical as well, charging me for administrative tasks that could be done by a 45 dollars an hour assistant. I was also charged twice for the same service. Stay away from this attorney, all she can do is to milk you with poor quality work that will not only disservice you but make you lose a case you can win easily. read more

In the course of our collaboration on the matter, I got a chance to learn much about Traci's style, skills, ethics - which I will like to share - 1/ Traci is worth the rates that she charges. It is not only because of her superior legal mind, but also how she manages her time, and consequently, your expenses. She is a modern lawyer, knowing how to use email, word, and excel to improve her productivity in business (yes, I know how weird that sounds - but law is always a little behind modern times). Going to courts can be expensive, and there is always a fine balance between "selling the farm" to get a good representation and cutting corners. Working with Traci, I never felt that I was making such choices. 2/ Traci works to help people - If you are looking for services to "get even" with someone, she is most likely not your person. While she is very empathetic, I do not think she views providing the "sympathize, and then bill" types of legal services. Traci is a doer. She is action-oriented and will seek quickest path to resolve issues. 3/ Traci is smart, and she knows math: Ultimately, all negotiations come down to numbers. Traci does not belong to the class of apologists who view illiteracy in math as something just as insignificant as a bad golf swing. A colleague in my office recommended Tracy Pickering. Tracy served as my consulting attorney during my divorce. She also helped me select a mediator, as my soon to be X and I chose to use that route as we had very little to disagree about (or we thought). They worked with me despite my financial constraints and made it do-able for me to have attorney guided help during this process.
