I went through a high conflict divorce/custody situation and was extremely happy with the care and expertise Jennifer handled my case with. She always made me feel heard, and responded with attention to what was important to me, while being honest in how feasible my hopes in a certain outcome for my case were. I felt so protected during the most difficult period in my life thus far. She presented me well (and successfully) in the courtroom, while always trying her best beforehand to negotiate so we didn't have to end up in court. I had found Jennifer after working with two other attorneys and was blown away by her focus, empathy and competence. Highly recommend Jennifer, you won't be disappointed. read more

I went through a lengthy divorce process that was very difficult, and full of a lot of acrimony. I interviewed a dozen family law attorneys, and took copious notes. Traci stood out above the rest. I felt her approach to be the most honest and sincere. My experience was validated as I worked with her. As I worked with Traci, I found her communication style simply outstanding. She always kept me apprised of what was happening, and was very easy to reach. I was never in a position of not knowing what was happening. If you anticipate a lot of difficulty with your case, you want someone like Traci on your side. She did wonders to lower my anxiety. Let's face it, hiring a lawyer is expensive. And hiring a family law lawyer can quickly add up when the process is as lengthy as it was for me. Traci's billing was thorough and honest. She leverages her team to bring down the costs. I always felt that I was treated fairly. Choose Traci. You won't be disappointed. read more

For over a year I was using another much bigger firm, Hoover, who were always right on time with billing (a lot$), but as for many other things you were treated as just another client, often taking 3 or more emails just to get an answer to a relevant question. In the time I worked with them, I had 3 different associates, one of whom even forgot to file certain documents in time!. I had enough, and so I started looking around and found Mello & Pickering through great reviews on Yelp. I wish I stared here first, they are the best. This firm is attentive and understanding. Compassionate about the situation and extremely thorough on the research and options presented. I was given a clear picture of my situation and a range of options with a recommendation on how best to go forward. No sugar-coating with stories about a long shot that would cost a lot and have little chances of positive outcome, urging me to do it. Instead, a realistic analysis and a partnership on cost effective next steps and expected timeline of outcome. To date, everything has been spot on. I can't recommend them high enough, Jessica rocks. read more

Little context here I was in the market for an attorney after having a bad experience with the first one. Basically I took a knife to a gun fight and realized quickly the lawyer I had was NO match for my ex's attorney. Enter, Traci Pickering and team. From our initial conversation I knew she was the one for me and someone I could count on to get the job done! From start to finish she listened to understand my situation and was very compassionate to my circumstances. I served 21 yrs in the Military and during my service was deployed on multiple occasions resulting in me missing out on time with my daughter while serving. When the opportunity presented itself I took a billet that was close to my daughter so I could spend time with her and work on our relationship. I moved within 10 miles of my daughter and was not allowed to pick her up or get her for extended periods of time. It was a very stressful period of my life and so I hired an attorney to help get a court ordered schedule in place so I did not have to ask for permission to see my daughter. You would think this was cut and dry but there is more..., a lot more! There is not enough space to spill the beans on everything but know CPS was involved, a tracking app was used on my daughter's phone to track our whereabouts and the cops were called on me one afternoon after picking my daughter up from school. There is a lot to unpack here but I will keep this simple. If you're looking for someone to represent you and get it right the first time..., this is the office! Take it from someone who had to pay two lawyers! I honestly believe you get what you pay for here! Not to leave anyone hanging, I got 50/50 custody of my daughter and we are currently doing great continuing to build our father/daughter relationship. Life is good! read more

I was filing for divorce, and ask this firm to look over my paperwork basically to make sure it doesn't get rejected or missing any forms needed. Due to covid, they weren't able to meet with me so everything was over the phone and through email for communication. They charged me for one hour, and at the end my paperwork still got send back by the court and I had to googled and find answers to correct the mistake that this firm failed to helped me on. I think the price they charged and the service provided wasn't bad until my paperwork was sent back. It was a disappointment on my part especially now it's going to cause more time to fix it and send it back to court. read more

Traci and Jennifer are THE absolute best in their field. After a few bad attorneys my husband and I found this firm by chance. They have helped not only my husband's custody case with his ex, but our whole family's peace of mind in knowing that we are in the best of care with their firm. Family court has been one of the hardest things our family has had to face and the stakes could not be any higher when a child's wellbeing is involved. Their WHOLE team is phenomenal (Jessica, Francesca). They are professional, compassionate, super responsive, strategic, wicked smart, know every in and out of family law and codes, truly care about your family and children, and always put in 200% for you. We have had some very urgent case matters come up and they were always a phone call away and ready to roll up their sleeves and do whatever our case required, even late at night. They are not cheap but we learned the hard way that you truly get what you pay for in family law attorneys. And in the end, they have helped us achieve so much in such a short time frame it is worth every penny. If you are lucky enough to have them take on your case, you won't ever regret it. read more

In 2019, I interviewed the best and elite law firms, because they were based in Willow Glen, now, I know, even if they're on Rodeo Dr, that might not be a true indicator of there work, I approached some firm several times in a day, I was so afraid to start this process, but I knew I needed to leave my marriage, to save myself. Once I got up the nerve to make an appointment, I entered, the first senior attorney gave me very good advise on how to get started and survive, she even made sure I was safe after I left, she advised me on money issues, thank you, that was heartfelt. You always need someone with you, when you seek attorneys, always. Then my case went to a junior attorney, let's just say I paid for her training $$$$$$,with money I didn't have, if you've never been pimped, for money, you're constantly billed, then we entered the pandemic and nothing was completed from there on alot of calls, alot of paperwork, duplicates, etc I still incurred bills, no divorce, approx 2.5 yrs. I will add the problem, my case was difficult to deal with, and a junior attorney wasn't ready to handle my type of case, coming from a 30 yrs marriage You need to be focused, straighten your crown and completely understand what you're about to enter. Difficult to: Stop your crying and emotions and listen and understand what they're telling you, your retainer will only rise, you will not be able to make money fast enough to keep up with the bills. Then you have to think which was worst the marriage or the divorce process? You're paying for your freedom. From my experience to divorce anyone, when you have property together is painfully difficult, and just remember the attorneys have seen so many of these cases, they are numb to your pain, the most awful experience, money rules ( but you can't take it with you) divorce, love, survival. Prepare to tell your story approx 100 more times, relive the pain. What I learned is when attorneys take your case, you're vulnerable and need help, to get out of the situation, you'll need money, millions and no one cares, just pay the bill and they'll leave you alone for a minute. The problem is the attorneys make so much money, not realizing a normal working person, doesn't make $10,000 or $20,000 a day. What I've learned Unfortunately, it took me some time, to move onto another attorney, you will receive hints, when it's time to move on, because I have to get out of this and learned, No one has your best interest at heart but you, be your own advocate. read more

I've worked with Jessica Pellerin over the last two years. Sadly, the disputes with my ex-husband and I have dragged on for that amount of time. However, Jessica Pellerin is an amazing attorney. She is incredibly thorough, researched, patient, forward thinking, always prepared, empathetic, and always always centers the child's best interest. She'll fight for you while never ever losing sight of the child. She has represented me from issues ranging from a move-away case, school placement, and holiday schedules. As a gay mother who remarried a woman, I was concerned about how homophobia from my ex-husband might play out at our hearing but she handled the topic with so much care and of course, expertise on the law. I would recommend her to anyone, especially those that have complex cases. Mello & Pickering is also very classy and I feel incredibly safe and supported any time I am represented by Jessica. read more

I highly recommend Mello and Pickering. I had a complex divorce, including custody/visitation, and needed legal representation. I used their legal services on several occasions and both Traci and Jessica were outstanding. I felt they both treated my case as if I were family. They really looked out for me and my children. They are empathic, ethical, and always want to help and do their best for their clients. Also, the staff at Mello and Pickering is amazing. You can practically hear Franchesca's smile over the phone. They are always so helpful and friendly whenever I've called. This firm truly cares about their clients and looks out for their best interest. I know I could not have handled this by myself and am so grateful to both Traci and Jessica for all that they do. read more

Traci is a dependable, knowledgable, and easy-going attorney. I utilized her for my amicable divorce, to keep us within mediation. During numerous in person and phone sessions, Traci calmly dissected each of my concerns and armed me with rationales needed to present an even-handed set of terms. Most importantly, she always focused the conversation on the brass tacks of cost/benefit analysis, ensuring that I chose the path least likely to end in confrontation or at the courthouse. She was never in it for her fees, in other words. Overall, I would highly recommend Traci for any family court matter. read more

I've had full physical custody of my two boys since my divorce in 2011. They're father moved out of state and although I was willing to work with him on visitation, he felt like I was being unfair. When he served me with custody papers, I was so worried and anxious of what was to come. I have always tried to do what's in the best interest of my boys, but I was worried that maybe he would not be reasonable with what he wanted versus what I was proposing (which is exactly what happened). I spoke with a few attorneys before I found Mello & Pickering. The other attorneys sounded out of touch and cold to my situation, which made me feel even more panicked. I called to set up a consult with Traci and immediately felt like I was talking to someone who had my boys best interest at heart. She focused on the facts and helped me feel at ease with the whole scenario. I was almost in tears with total relief... Traci made me truly feel like she had my back. Traci decided that her associate Jessica Pellerin would be perfect to help me with my response and in court as we proceeded. Jessica was extremely thorough and really made me feel like she understood my situation. After a failed mediation with my ex, we were set to move forward to JCC. The cost of this was really racking up and with my ex also holding out on child support, I spoke with Jessica (who was soon going on maternity leave) we decided together to have me represent myself. She assured me that she would be there for me if I had any questions. My case was then transferred back to Tracy to be on a consulting basis as JCC approached. The day before the JCC, I spoke with Traci and she answered all my questions, coached me on what to expect, and reassured me that I could handle it. I cannot say enough that these women are the best thing that has happened to me since all this drama first began. What an inspiration it is to have extremely professional and strong women help me through this incredibly scary and uncertain process. If you're in need of help these women are the ones to go to! Thank you Jessica and Traci, I couldn't have handled it without you! read more

I am SO grateful I found and chose this firm to help me get divorced. Samantha Feak was my attorney and she worked her butt off for me! I am proud to say that as of today I am finally divorced, and I couldn't have done it without her. She fought for me when I felt like I didn't have the strength to fight for myself any more, and she got it done. She made sure my divorce included a much needed restraining order to keep me safe from the physical and emotional abuse, and harassment from my ex husband. I cried tears of happiness when I got the call this morning it was finally over. Thank you so much Samantha! read more

I had a terrible experience with this law firm. I was looking for an attorney to represent me in my divorce so I set up a free consultation to see if this would be a good fit. I called in, they asked me a few questions, then they set up a consultation with Jessica Pellorin. I set this up on a Thursday and they couldn't see me until the following tuesday, which was fine until I got a call the night before saying Jessica had something conflicting with this appointment. So I had to wait even longer to meet and consult with her. Once I actually had a consultation with Jessica she was so rude, degrading, and made me feel as though all of my questions were a waste of time. She would talk to me as if I knew what all of this lawyer jargon means... that's what I needed her for. Jessicas long pauses and inexcusable exhales after I would ask a question about what she was trying to "explain" to me. Jessica Pellorin is so rude, made me feel worse and more stressed out than I did before the call. I am so glad this was just a consultation, because I could not imagine paying someone to treat me this way. DO NOT BOTHER with this law firm. I found a new lawyer right away that made me feel important and like I am their number one priority right from the start. Obviously this firm doesn't want the business... they are disgraceful. read more

My free consultation with Traci Pickering went well. She laid out all my options and let me know that working with one of their Senior Associates was going to be slightly more affordable than working with either Traci herself or Jennifer Mello. I worked with Jessica Pellerin, and I found her to be efficient, professional, effective, intelligent, and encouraging. I never had a need for her to represent me in court, but I sure would not have wanted to go up against her! Jessica was extremely responsive to calls and emails, and I felt that she listened carefully to what I was saying and crafted each document to match my specific circumstances; I recommend Jessica whole-heartedly. Mello & Pickering's support staff are top-notch too, by the way. Overall, Mello & Pickering is not cheap. But this is a situation where you get what you pay for -- if you want a top-shelf cocktail, you can't expect to pay well prices. And when you're dealing with serious issues of custody, child and spousal support, and division of assets, do you really want to screw around with some cheapo lawyer, or try to handle those things yourself? My divorce was such a serious thing that I wanted the best -- which is how I ended up at Mello & Pickering. I'm glad I made the choice I did. read more

I have to first say that Mello and Pickering did help me make progress in gaining joint legal custody of my daughter--and also helped increase my time-share as well. My child is the most important aspect of my life--and hiring representation was the only way to navigate through the system. Pros: -For the most part the staff was competent -They filed all paper-work promptly -Most of the attornies seemed to have a good grasp on family law, as expected Cons: -I had to work with 3 separate attornies (the initial attorney went on maternity leave--which made me wonder why she was put on the case) through-out the process -It cost about $7,000 (apparently my case was simple) in less than 3 months--some phone calls were around $150--and to show up in court for an hour was $600.00 -I felt I was asked to go to hearings unnecessarily--which cost a lot of $$ -Once my retainer was up--I felt like the lawyers were bill collectors, which was awkward Over-all, like I said, Mello and Pickering helped me make progress--but I truly feel like $7,000 is an absurd sum of money for the work put into my case...if mine was simple, i'd hate to see the bill on a complicated case. I decided to finish the process on my own--and move forward without their representation--we had another hearing scheduled for late Feb--but seriously, by that time, i'd have been paying around $10,000. I would never feel like an ethical person/business charging people this amount of money--but parents are forced to get lawyers as the family law system is really disorganized/confusing. I truly feel bad for fathers/mothers who can't afford bloated fees and simply want to have an equitable agreement with the other parent. I urge anyone looking for legal counsel to check-in with as many lawyers as possible before choosing one...all are pretty costly, but I feel maybe there's firms that will treat their clients better. In the future--I hope never to have to jump into the family law realm again--and that my daughters mother and I can move forward more civially. I would most likely not return to M & P as a client. read more

Went through a divorce and need legal representation. Traci was recommend through a friend of a friend as being a strong and effective lawyer. I felt confident with Traci and her abilities from the first consultation. She is very thorough and let me know my options and always felt I was more than adequately represented. She was always very conscious of my financial situation and never did anything unnecessarily regarding my case and was extremely efficient by using support staff when my case didn't warrant her immediate attention. Traci (and staff) are wonderful to deal with, friendly and empathetic. I retained her one more time after the divorce was final to enforce items from the MSA which were not being followed through on. The outcome of the divorce and the follow-up enforcement met all my expectations. Nobody wants to seek legal help if they can avoid it...but I would highly recommend Traci and the staff at MELLO & PICKERING, LLP for any family law issues that you may need representation for. read more

I recently was served with divorce papers for what I thought would be a simple divorce. However, my ex decided to ask for as much as she could get, and I knew I needed solid representation. Traci immediately took my case and explained the situation. She did an excellent job of clearly telling me where I stand and detailing my rights, my ex's rights, and what she needed from me. After the initial handoff of documents, the process went very smoothly, even with a few back-n-forth complications from the other attorney, and I was quickly brought to a finalized settlement that worked well for both of us. During the case, Traci also had me work with Arlette on a few smaller issues, and both attorneys were always very professional and efficient, and at the same time very personable and caring towards my predicament. I never felt like my time or money were wasted, and I felt like the guidance and advice given were thoughtful and valuable. I'm giving 5-stars because overall, they turned a bad experience into a positive learning experience that I won't forget. read more

I never saw myself hiring a divorce attorney, and I can tell you first hand there is a very wide range of quality of representation in this profession. At least 3 attorneys never called me back. Their staffs did, but only to let me know how much they would need up front. While law is a business, I found these practices treated their clients as money funnels and couldn't care less about the specifics of the case or whether or not their clients felt comfortable in their hands. Family law clients are always at their most vulnerable, so finding an attorney you can trust with your life and future is paramount. In the end Traci Pickering was recommended to me by a friend, and her behavior couldn't be more different. She not only talked to me and laid out the worst case scenario of my situation, but she also offered to come on as a consultant to save me money. In the end I needed to go to full representation and she was very conscientious about my funds, her and her staff fees, and was extremely responsive to any questions and concerns. She made certain that her actions aligned with my wishes at all times. I couldn't have asked for a better attorney. For one of the hearings I worked with Jennifer Mello and I can absolutely recommend her as well. Due to the extreme thoroughness, professionalism, and excellence of Mello & Pickering representation I am able to move on with my life and my future is mine. read more

Jennifer and her whole team at Mello Pickering were amazing from day one. They were professional, caring and genuinely looked out for my best interests. Needless to say, divorce is expensive but Jennifer and her team made sure to keep things direct and to the point in order to not increase my costs. Overall rating 5 star rating Excellent Trustworthy 5.0 star rating Excellent Responsive 5.0 star rating Excellent Knowledgeable 5.0 star rating Excellent Kept me informed 4.0 star rating Good I recommend Jennifer Mello.and Mz Pickering I used Jennifer 6+ months ago. Jennifer handled my Family matter. I have previously worked with no lawyers. Jennifer and the rest of her firm are awesome. They kept a woman with a mental illness from taking my son away. When the other party went below the belt, they kept it pro and beat it out. They helped the judge see through the lies and showed the truth on both sides. Words cannot express my gratitude to all of them. As a man it was empowering to have an office staffed entirely by women come to your side. It was a huge relief when they told me that i had way more rights that I thought. Totally changed my attitude. I only wish i'd contacted them sooner. Probably would've saved me a lot of time and money if I'd been informed early on. I didn't always follow their recommendations and wish i had. This caused some more work for everybody. My only tips to a future client would be to work on clairty. Pre-game and post-game before and after to know what to expect. Having never been to court before, I wish I'd made it a point to go sit in on a public hearing before my first one. Just to know what to expect. Also, Text messages. There are ways to get them off your phone (software like Phoneview for mac) There was one specific text message that absolutely turned the tide. I missed it, but Jennifer caught it. They ain't cheap, but every day i see my son is worth every penny. read more

After moving out of the state and having post divorce custody issues I found myself in need of someone who could represent me as efficiently as possible. Jennifer was very good at explaining the "what to expect" and complex issues regarding out of state custody and support matters. When I had an opportunity to work abroad, she was able to get me the permission to take my children out of the country for a month despite the many roadblocks put up from their father. Unfortunately I was in and out of court for post divorce matters for 15 years, but it was always Jennifer whom I called for representation. She really understands the emotional toll this takes on people and always had the patience to calmly talk me through each issue that was raised. Thankfully I no longer have a need for her services with my youngest graduated, but I always knew I had someone to call for help. read more

Please keep in mind my experience happened on or around - Thursday, August 19, 2010 10:57 AM. I mention this in all fairness. (Perhaps they have changed?!) My experience was not good here. For $2,500+ I really didn't get anything here except aggravated. They prepared an initial response (Divorce) but never filed it. After I fired the Firm, they charged me another $150 for administrative fees. When I politely asked them to waive this extra charge (Since they really didn't do anything, or to meet me half way / waive half of the $150) my request was denied. When I went to the self-help area after this experience (Santa Clara Legal Help on Notre Dame) they mentioned that not filing a response was a "Rookie Mistake" ... In the end I paid $2,650 to speak with the Firm, trade a few emails, and have them prepare a response only for them not to file it with the court clerk and squeeze me for another $150... My overall experience = terrible. read more

Traci Pickering was the 4th attorney I used during a difficult divorce and she was absolutely by far the best and I just wish I had found her earlier in the process. She explained my legal situation, what was feasible and what was not. She listened to my goals and helped me achieve them. She was incredibly knowledgeable, would provide great guidance and insight but was also pragmatic, which led to a great resolution for me. She is the consummate professional and negotiated in a fair, firm but non confrontational way so things didn't spiral out of control. I honestly don't believe I could have gotten the reasonable and timely outcome if it wasn't for her. I went back to her every year for child support adjustments and she was just as efficient and helpful with that too. I cannot say enough good things about Traci and her team, they were everything I needed in legal representation and are really nice people too! I have recommended her to two of my friends and they also had a great experience and sung her praises too. read more

I engaged the services of Traci for a matter, which required some professional attention. In the course of our collaboration on the matter, I got a chance to learn much about Traci's style, skills, ethics - which I will like to share - 1/ Traci is worth the rates that she charges. It is not only because of her superior legal mind, but also how she manages her time, and consequently, your expenses. She is a modern lawyer, knowing how to use email, word, and excel to improve her productivity in business (yes, I know how weird that sounds - but law is always a little behind modern times). Going to courts can be expensive, and there is always a fine balance between "selling the farm" to get a good representation and cutting corners. Working with Traci, I never felt that I was making such choices. 2/ Traci works to help people - If you are looking for services to "get even" with someone, she is most likely not your person. While she is very empathetic, I do not think she views providing the "sympathize, and then bill" types of legal services. Traci is a doer. She is action-oriented and will seek quickest path to resolve issues. 3/ Traci is smart, and she knows math: Ultimately, all negotiations come down to numbers. Traci does not belong to the class of apologists who view illiteracy in math as something just as insignificant as a bad golf swing. In times of closing deals, it helps a lot when your legal representation can keep up with numbers (to know if the offer is valid or not), without pulling out a calculator each time. 4/ Lastly, Traci cares about doing a fantastic job. All the times I met her for a face to face meeting, I wondered what was wrong (with me), since she was more passionate/stressed about *my* matter than me. It is vital for Traci to serve with excellence, and in all my interactions, I saw nothing but her achieving her own high bars of excellence. read more

Incompetent and unethical I just fired Traci Pickering who failed to apply the basic law: a 3044 finding 5 years ago has no legal standing, failed to layout legal options before hearing, instead letting OP counsel subpoena a key person, failed to argue against OP's accusation with obvious facts ( Judge rescued me by asking a very simple question: was there a rebuttal? ) While she charged me about 2000 dollars on preparing for the hearing, the Judge, (according to Traci, only was inexperienced and was only on bench for 2 years) was wickedly smart. Traci failed not only on bigger issue but also failed on small things such as extending deadline. I asked " if there is anyway to extend the deadline, I mean anyway" answer from her is no way, then I drafted a letter, instructed the firm to negotiate with OP, then extension! An attorney with 17 years experienced attorney couldn't deliver of what I made happen. Why shall anyone pay for this poor quality of work? I mean am I supposed to tell her what to do? And coach her on strategy while paying 400 dollars an hour? Some people are just incompetent and she absolutely is, but she chooses to be unethical as well, charging me for administrative tasks that could be done by a 45 dollars an hour assistant. I was also charged twice for the same service. Stay away from this attorney, all she can do is to milk you with poor quality work that will not only disservice you but make you lose a case you can win easily. read more

A colleague in my office recommended Tracy Pickering. Tracy served as my consulting attorney during my divorce. She also helped me select a mediator, as my soon to be X and I chose to use that route as we had very little to disagree about (or we thought). Tracy helped me understand my rights and pointed out issues that could be a problem going forward. She was always available either by phone or email and her response time was absolutely amazing. She is a strong woman and helped me be strong during this difficult time. She is efficient as is her office and very pleasant to be around. I highly recommend Tracy or anyone in her office. read more

Jessica was amazing! She was able to turn my case around and get it done quickly!

DONE! finally divorced! with the help of Arlette Argyris! She's not only professional, friendly, but beyond knowledgable! I originally saw Jennifer Mello and she was awesome as well! They worked with me despite my financial constraints and made it do-able for me to have attorney guided help during this process. They gave great advice and worked with me to understand the legal part of things; which can be quite cumbersome. I would highly recommend their offices if needing family law assistance. Janel and Franchesca are assets as well! Thank you all! So thrilled after a year and a half things are finalized thanks to you all! read more
