I had been suffering under the care of another psychiatrist for a year and a half. Finally out of…read moredesperation I googled the best psychiatrist in NYC and Dr. Mekles came up. That description of him is very accurate. He is without a doubt the best doctor I have ever dealt with. The attention you get from him is outstanding. If you're experiencing a problem, you can be sure you will speak to him that same day. His office staff is just as attentive. I highly recommend him. You can be sure you will get the best care possible. Thank you Dr. Mekles for helping me get back to myself again anxiety-free.

My experience with Dr. Brian Pell deserves to be publicly documented so others know exactly what…read morethey are walking into. I booked an appointment specifically for an ADHD assessment, clearly stated as such. That was the entire purpose of the visit. Yet, during the call, Dr. Pell casually informed me that they are not conducting ADHD assessments at this time and may resume, possibly in January or February of next year. This immediately raised a red flag: if you are not offering the service, why accept an appointment for it? Why bill insurance for something you never intended to provide? The entire interaction lasted 18 minutes, and not a single part of it resembled an evaluation. Instead, we spent the bulk of the time discussing my career. He asked about my former psychiatrist's nationality; he seemed very interested in why he didn't take insurance "as a Black doctor" (which I perceive as a common conflation between race and poverty). He then asked only two quick, surface-level questions about why I was seeking an ADHD assessment. Then in the same breath that he told me they are not doing assessments, he also told me that I probably do not have ADHD. He said this despite the fact that I was coming to him for a second opinion after already completing a comprehensive, legitimate ADHD evaluation with a diagnosis from an actual specialist. (I did not share I was coming in for a second opinion, as I didn't want it to be biased). He provided no testing, no structured questions, no clinical methodology, nothing that even remotely resembled evidence-based practice. The whole thing felt dismissive, and frankly, like a complete waste of my time. I left the appointment feeling misled and deeply uncomfortable, as insurance had been billed for a service that was never delivered. If you are seeking serious mental health care, diagnostic clarity, or responsible clinical practice, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. This experience felt unhelpful and entirely out of alignment with what any patient should expect from a licensed provider.

As someone who suffers from ADD/ADHD (what is it even technically called?), when you're met with roadblock after roadblock on the course to treatment you eventually just... stop looking. That's actually what happened to me. A professor of mine noticed that some symptoms I was exhibiting matched that of a fellow student who also struggled in the class. He suggested I seek a diagnosis as it could help provide me the necessary resources in college to overcome something I was up against. Growing up in the 90s, I, like many others my age, was told that we were just lazy, not trying hard enough, and that ADD/ADHD wasn't real and eventually I believed it. Now, a teacher of about the same age (I'm back in school thanks to the panny), is suggesting I seek treatment. So I started looking. I looked for months. Nobody had availability. I actually was about to give up when my partner came found Modern Integrative Psychiatry on Yelp. Normally they're crazy booked out, but thanks to whatever circumstance, I was able to secure an appointment with PMHNP Ashley Winn. I've been seeing her for around 6 or 7 months now and honestly it was the best decision I ever made. She makes seeking treatment painless and effortless. We meet remotely so even though I no longer live in the best city in the universe, I'm able to see her from campus, my car, or wherever I have access to the internet. It's been a great experience and I can't recommend this office or Ms. Winn enough. For those, like me, who may have suffered for too long without seeking treatment due to the stigma: give it a shot. You'll be happy that you did.

What sets him apart is his ability to think outside the box. He's not practicing with blinders on or hiding behind a degree -- he brings genuine curiosity, a growth mindset, and a well-rounded perspective that you can feel the second the conversation starts. He connects the dots in ways most providers don't even attempt. His energy is authentic, his approach is refreshing, and he restored something I honestly thought the healthcare system had taken from me: trust. If you feel like you're done trying -- go see him. Anyone who says otherwise probably doesn't understand the value of someone who genuinely wants to help you become the best version of yourself. Doctor Adam (and I use the word "doctor" with caution) is the most neglectful psychiatrist I have…read moreever seen or heard of in my many years receiving medication management. He is purely transactional -- zero talk theapy. Far worse, he is absolutely negligent. On many occassions he has ghosted me for weeks -- not filing prescriptions that I depend on for my emotional well-being (which is borderine criminal). He should have his licenses stripped from him. PLEASE AVOID THIS INDIVIDUAL at all costs. To show what kind of person he is, he once held me "hostage" while coercing me to write a 5-star review. I suspect that many of the 5-star reviews shown here are artificial. Completely unethical. Please be careful. Follow-up edit: He emailed me in response to my post within 5 minutes, while it takes him over a week on occassion to respond to a refill request. This shows that he is only concerned with optics as opposed to providing a high level of service. Further, his business manager responded (within 10 minutes) with an iilegal post (i'd suspect?), referencing a category of medicine that violates doctor-patient confidentiality.

Dr. Gerard is the only psychiatrist who brought my regimen to two or three medications, and one of them is just for sleeping. Did I mention that the side effects that I've had for 13 years improved? Not only did Dr. Gerard diagnose me with a rare form of bipolar disorder which helped me integrate the symptoms into one thing that I could understand, but he treated me like a person - a great person with wonderful qualities - rather than a patient with a disorder. He is warm and concerned, and very expressive, and - can you imagine - he has a truly great sense of humor, which I like. (Don't you hate when doctors and therapists sit there with no facial expressions? It makes me feel judged and objectified - blech! No more!) Lastly, Dr. Gerard is oriented toward practical problem solving for a powerful person rather than throwing chemicals at a symptom. Thank god I found him. If the description I wrote sounds good to you, I'd say call him and meet him.
