One of the worst bus trip experiences ever on 7/28/2019 (Sunday) morning at about 7-7:30am.. I forgotten my travel pillow on the megabus, when I ran to the driver.., she almost hit me, by I dodged away cuz she was shaking her head like she ain't gonna care or stop for any passengers who happened forgets anything on the bus.., this time is a travel pillow, what happened if any other passengers would happened to forget their expensive smartphones.., so I filed a complaint against Megabus on their app, but instead the megabus doesn't seems to care in improving their customers service at all.. instead feeling sympathy of reimbursement, they said it ain't their responsibility for any loss n found item, so they just wanna get away with it by saying "Oh my travel pillow wasn't found, whereby I specifically forgot it on the bus"... wow what a "Son Of The Bitch" Megabus company I ever taken in my life.. So after that disaster with FlixBus in San Francisco last Saturday, 7/21/2018, waiting for three hours for the bus that never came, I was able to book a last minute ticket to MegaBus to go back home to Los Angeles. I used my phone to purchase a ticket from their website and that was pretty easy even though my phone is on its last leg. I paid $5 extra for reserved seating on the first floor with a table. Most people were seated in the second floor, but I was comfortable since there was only one person across from me and I had a table. I did not get to work on it like I originally planned, but it was comfortable. There are designated seats on the bus that are reserved, and you can tell because regular seats have fabric and the reserved have leather(y) seats. I don't think there was WiFi or maybe it did not work, but that's alright. I traveled from 3 PM to 11 PM with one half hour break when we were over halfway to Los Angeles. The restroom was decent for what you would expect on a bus. So if I had to travel by ground, I would prefer MegaBus over Amtrak, which is a bus and/or train trip, and Greyhound. Amtrak is pricier, but if you can have a train the whole way or even part of the way, the comfort is a good choice. Greyhound may or may not be cheaper, but there's usually a lot of people and they make a lot of destinations unless you're taking an express or something. MegaBus is pretty cheap and has fewer stops and is a bit more comfortable. There are other bus lines, but I have not tried them yet. For now, MegaBus is my preferred bus travel. read more

Thanks to my sista and also my Yelp buddy Nari C. for helping me decide to try the Megabus from LA to SF. I am glad I did. I booked early enough to get a round trip per person for less than $7 - which won't even get me 40 miles in gas if I went by personal car. Megabus gets the important things right: The bus departed on time and arrived early! Bus is clean, drivers were safety minded and the seats have seatbelts. The website is very basic but works if you have a simple itinerary. TIPS and personal experience: No ticket to print. Just have your confirmation number. If you're going to SF it may be worth it to get off in Oakland and take the BART because of rush hour traffic. Ride on the top level of a double deck bus because there is mega-bounce on the Megabus at highway speeds. For the most part it was as comfortable as a passenger car. Seats are narrow so try to sit with someone you know or try to look fatter than you are so no one sits next to you. Figure out where the sun will be in the direction of travel so you can sit on the opposite side of the bus (if you're a pansy). The official company policy is no food and drinks so munch discretely and don't be smuggling some smelly azz tuna sandwich to bother other passengers. Sit away from the lavatory unless you like that kind of smell and foot traffic. The wifi is only good for basic email or mobile based browsing because its realistically .5 Mbps speed is so dog slow that many passengers just give up and deem it to be useless. The power outlet could be in front of you or behind your knee depending on the bus design. The AC operates on a thermostat so the cooling/heating is uneven and may bother some wusses and high maintenance individuals. Fellow passengers are not as ghetto as Greyhound but they are still out there. A lady was cussing out her man via cellphone while her 'untrained' kid was being disruptive. Megabus can't be blamed for crappy people so just suck it up and buy some noise canceling headphones with all that coin you saved by taking the Megabus! read more

Hats off to MegaBus..... Great driver, negotiated hours of heavy traffic on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. I guess everyone in LA had the same idea. Ugh! Half the trip was 30 mph... Brutal. But I looked at the scenery, chatted with the nice lady next to me, charged my phone, took a funny picture of a guy in the next row up with his mouth open so BIG and snoring softly (I didn't publish it, just my own lol), returned email, read FB, ate an apple & a brownie, read the comics, and napped. Ahhh, good! The great driver watched the road and kept going. Almost 9 hours. He was a super hero. I would have started screaming if I'd been driving in bumper to bumper all the way. The bus was clean, quiet, smelled fine, good group of people. I will really enjoy it next time I go.... When it's NOT a long holiday week-end. read more

They had moved the stop to El Monte MTA station which worked fine for me away from the DTLA Union Station. Megabus has been quite possibly the worst transportation experience of my life. I was left behind at a PETRO Truck stop in the middle of nowhere in central California, south of San Jose. The Mega Bus policy of leaving people behind must be examined by Mega Bus officials, law enforcementIt and the CA State Assembly. It is a safety issue. Truck stops are notoriously unsafe and stranded bus passengers are prey for unscrupulous truck drivers. At a fuel stop, Megabus has a responsibility to make a good faith effort to ensure passengers are back on board. This should include a public announcement that the bus is leaving. At PETRO, the employees cooperate with drivers when asked. Some drivers ask them to make an announcement when a passenger is missing, others do not. The policy is inconsistent, and depends on the driver's mood. The bus I was on was dirty. I was in the restroom when the bus left. My friend protested that I was not on the bus and the driver left me behind. At this truck stop, one of the restrooms was closed for maintenance, and there was a long line of people waiting to use the toilet. (The building is being remodeled and contractors are working on repairs.). In subsequent conversations with my friend on the bus, I learned that there was a mistake in the headcount and a stowaway was on the bus. At the very least, the driver should have asked PETRO to announce that the bus was leaving. The clerk at PETRO says she often makes this announcement when asked by the driver. Also, the food/fuel stop should be scheduled. As far as I can tell, it depends on the driver. I waited two days to get picked up. I was told by dispatch that a bus was coming and that bus would be a no-show. Several busses were scheduled between San Jose and Los Angeles all day. Dispatchers called me and said when I could expect them and the bus would not arrive. Dispatchers said the driver had my cell phone info and would be looking for me. I'd be standing at the spot and no text or phone call would come. No Megabus would arrive. The staff at PETRO would smile and feel sorry for me. They shrug their shoulders and say, "that's not right." They have stories of stranded passengers left behind here for several days. After spending 36 hours at the PETRO truck stop, I was finally picked up this afternoon and just arrived at Union Station. I had nothing on me but my cell phone. My glasses and medication were on the bus. I am lucky because my friend picked up my bags for me. Others are not so lucky. This policy must change before Megabus has blood on their hands read more

Megabus - Mega SUCKS They delayed us by 3 hours, but instead of telling us, "hey we are running late...see you in a few hours" they updated us every 10 minutes saying we will be there in 20 minutes....FOR 3 HOURS... we stood in line waiting to board a bus that was nowhere near us. So we waited... 3 hours later We boarded a bus (mostly just to sit down) and we were on our way. UNTIL....we were 15 minutes outside of NYC and the driver pulled into a large gas station, opened the door, and got out. He didn't say a word, nor did he close the door. 81 passengers (yes exactly 81), no driver and an ever increasing number of bugs from the open door sitting in a parking lot waiting for who knows what. An hour passes and a new driver arrives and gets set up to drive us the rest of the way. Rage boils over and passengers are yelling at the new driver, other people are yelling at those people...all the while still in the dam parking lot...eventually the wheels on the bus go round and round...we arrive 4hrs and 30min late. The company has offered us a free ride on another megabus to compensate for all of this....ummmm no thanks. Do yourself a favor...don't take this ride. read more

You've got to be out of your mind to ride with Megabus. Yeah, it's cheap but you make up for it in shitty rigid seats that leave your back sore for two days, no legroom for people over 4'8", no wi-fi, the stench from the toilet that ascends to the top tier of the bus, and garbage employees. I had luggage that was apparently too heavy and they tossed me a trash bag, telling me to load the excess into it, stating it would cost me an extra $35. I was compliant initially because honestly, I knew my luggage was about 15lb heavier and I was trying to be sneaky and thought I could get away with it and I was heading to school and it was going to be the first day of class. But what happened next was unethical and disgusting. They eventually went through my bags without permission and I had to I beg them to stop touching my stuff, (clothes, shoes, food, etc). And they just joked around with each other and laughed at me, all right in front of the loading zone with everyone watching, making a spectacle out of me. In the meantime, they kept trying to bet me $100 my luggage was still heavier than the limit. So I told them to get the scale out - they had already dug through my personal belongings, might as well go through with it, right? Then the manager/supervisor kept making a show on when he brings it out and he'd be a $100 richer but would evade it whenever I told him to bring out the scale. In the end, they wouldn't let me on the bus anyway stating my bags were too heavy and I complained to customer service which was a whole other shitshow as all they referred me to the UK office, then to the US office, then eventually telling me that what happened to me was "unfortunate" but I also wasn't getting my refund. So unless you want to potentially deal with what I went through, spend the extra $4 and ride with Bolt. read more

The kids and I decided to take a weekend trip to San Francisco, but guess who the burden of getting us there falls onto, usually, Mom and Dad! This time with a condensed weekend timeframe, I didn't want to pay last-minute airfare prices, nor did I want to arrive completely drained of energy after driving for 6-8 hours from So Cal. Megabus caught our eye with their $1 sale! While we couldn't travel the weekend of their sale, regular prices are super affordable. To be honest, the trip up was completely different than the trip home. On the way there we rode the Friday Night red-eye leaving at 11:30pm-ish from LA. They quickly checked our reservation, gave us our tickets, took our bags and we boarded the bus and headed to the top floor. When I booked, I hadn't realized that there were other stops on this route, so when we got on, my two kids and I couldn't sit together. We wound up all sitting in the aisle - 1 in front of me and 1 to the side of me, so we were all still close. On the way back, we arrived 1 hour early to make sure we were the first ones on the bus. My kids wanted to sit in the back row this time so we could sit next to each other. The rest of the rows have pairs of seats, the back row sits 5 across. This time too, since we came back in the 2nd day of a 3-day weekend, there were many open seats and friends traveling together made themselves comfortable on opposite sides of the aisle. For both directions we stopped at a rest stop. On the way up it had a fast food and the world's most well-stocked convenience store. In the way down we grabbed Popeyes. You can eat on the bus and most people are neat and threw their trash in the bags that were provided. To make sure your trip runs smoothly, here are my tips: 1) ARRIVE AT LEAST 30 MIN BEFORE BUS DEPARTURE: Megabus only recommends 15 but if you don't have reserved seats, it's first come first serve. Arrive early. 2) ASK WHERE BUS MEETS IF NOT CLEARLY MARKED: In LA it was very clearly marked with permanent signs in the transportation station, in SF it was a telephone pole halfway down the block. 3) BRING SNACKS OR AT LEAST WATER: The stations may or may not have stuff, but to save $ and avoid last-minute stress - bring your own. 4) BRING A JACKET OR BLANKET: It can keep you warm or cushion your head on the ride. 5) MAY WANT TO RESERVE SEATS: Again, less headache. Slightly better view out the front of bus. Our three-thumb review is 2 thumbs up. My teen son didn't live sitting next to a stranger (who, albeit, studied all night and if he slept he still managed to stay upright without encroaching in my son's space). He enjoyed the ride back though and said that would have been a much better first impression. My tween daughter liked that they had a bathroom on the bus (which was pretty clean since many people just used the restrooms at the rest stops) but was a little disappointed in how the wifi functioned. I logged in and I feel like I got to the menu where I could read magazines but to be honest I can't remember why I didn't pursue it from there or if it didn't work. I personally feel like it's a great way to catch a ride and I'd definitely use them again. Had I been a college kid I'd have been all over this and used it to go on adventures with friends (especially their Vegas route!). I also felt extremely confident in the drivers as both were energetic and friendly. I trusted both and felt comfortable sleeping during the red eye especially. And if that wasn't enough, it was during the biggest rain and wind storm of the last few years but the driver handled it well and we were delivered safely and on time. I booked a trip to Oakland, I booked it because I didn't want to have to drive 5 + hours so late at night and drive another 5 + hours back to LA so early in the morning. You are required to arrive no later than 15 minutes before the departure time, we go to union station about 30 minutes before the departure time, which was 11:59PM. We left a concert about an hour early so we wouldn't miss our bus. We get there we're waiting in-line to check in ... 15 minutes before we are required to be there, I get a text message, our bus will be delayed 2 hours, the employee who is checking people in doesn't let anyone know till 11:45 PM. We're checked in and are waiting for the bus, an hour has passed by, the employee informs us that the bus to Oakland has been canceled, after an hour of waiting. We asked if there was anything we could do or if there was another bus that could take us, nope nothing that's it. So I had to drive those 5+ hours at 2am that I didn't want to drive to get to Oakland. I will no longer be considering megabus for any trips. read more

It's basic, cheap transportation. They use yield management to adjust ticket prices, to fill up busses. You do have to be careful to be at the bus stop ahead of time. Just like an airline, they can leave you behind or allocate your seat to a standby traveler. Similar comment applies to rest stops - be sure to be back on time, or stay on the bus. They run a pretty tight schedule. And if they waited for one or two stragglers, they would inconvenience 50+ other riders. Keep in mind, their double-decker buses don't have overhead storage. So any bags you bring on board, are going to be by your feet for the duration of the trip. Leg room is fairly tight. Seats have decent lumbar support - I've been able to sleep for a few hours on overnight busses. You do run some risk of delays / cancellation. And since they operate off the street, they often don't have customer service reps to assist in person. They don't have a lot of contingencies available, unless you're on a route with frequent service. The trips I've taken, they've been pretty punctual. And their drivers are pretty good about making sure people don't hog two seats when the bus is full. So you get what you pay for. read more

They were here for a hot minute and then disappeared and now they back and ready for action like Star Wars! I go to San Jose to visit family. Or Vegas to visit family. Why they don't all live in one place? I dunno man. The San Jose and San Fran buses are usually students and Asians. (I can say that I'm Asian). The Vegas bus is a grab bag mix of people. But honestly the crowd is far better than the public bus crowd in LA. And waaaay better than Greyhound crowd. Because you have to buy online I think it prevents homeless people from taking it. And yes if you book early you can get a super cheap price. I always book day of never pay more than 60 bucks. Usually 30-50. Is that a lot? Maybe, but it's a relaxing ride. Only once did I had a crazy driver. He was being all fast and furious racing this sedan car. It was ridic and hilar at the same time. Oh and scary. The wifi doesn't work. Never has. Just go to sleep. Most people are sleeping anyways. Yeah I take the red eye one a lot. It makes a pit stop at a place that has 24 hour food so that's nice. The bathrooms work, but just wait for the pit stop. These people know what they're doing. They've been in this bus game for a long time. They bout dat bus lyfe. It's a frigging bus people. Stop complaining. Best part is you can buy one way tickets too. Some of the other services make you buy round trip. They have like three trips a day going each way. Very reliable. I've never had one break down or be late. I've never seen a fight or a puking person. The worse I've seen is grubby looking hipstery street travelers. One asked me if he could have my window seat so he could sit next to his girlfriend. I said NOPE. I paid 5 extra bucks for that window seat. Which is cool. If you sit up front on the top deck it's a cool view of nothing really cause there ain't much to see on the drive to vegas. But still. You can reserve some better seats for 5 bucks more and be VIP POOR. Use this service. It's clean. (It really is) It's reliable. It's safe. read more

Loving the price that I paid for a trip to Las Vegas, NV it only cost me $5.00. The bus was a huge double decker with power outlets and free wifi. There was a restroom on board. There is no food or beverage service but it will make a stop for about 30 minutes in Barstow, CA where you can grab a bite to eat, stretch your legs and smoke your whatever. You are allowed 1 luggage and 1 carry on for free. The bus was on time and it was a very efficient way to get to Las Vegas. They also have service to San Francisco too. I loved the fact that I could catch up on some beauty sleep instead of driving he 4.5 hours from San Diego, CA The drop off in Las Vegas, NV is at the south transit center that has busses that run 24 hours a day to get you to he strip. read more

I have bought a few of these tickets for my mother to travel. It is not a bad option if you don't want to go through the hassle of flying. Here are a few tips I hope will help you out so you don't have to inquire and waste time talking to a representative since dealing with them is kind of a pain. - Beware of the sms charge fee (0.15 cents) its a cool feature to remind you through text however I would not want any extra charges when I can for this service. - Booking reservations through telephone costs 3 fee - online booking .50 each way - Tickets are not refundable but if you need to change the reservation to another day you can do so if you just pay the difference. -The online system will lock you out for one hour if you or the rep access the reservation and exit their database. I would like them more if they can improve on having better representatives and website navigation. read more

I had high hopes for the mega bus. Definitely great prices but it is because they don't offer what they speak of. They advertise that you can get free WiFi but even after 4 trips with them I am unable to get WiFi on my computer. This is my biggest issue with them and the customer service doesn't seem to care at all. That is issue number two. They are borderline rude and seem as if they just want to get off the call with you. The may ride I took with them, the luggage handler told me my carry on bag was to big and that I'd have to buy a second ticket to bring it on with me. I ended up paying 27.00 and then he says you can't bring that on with you. The customer service didn't care one bit and the driver was exactly the same. I went on with it anyways and put it in my second seat. The seats are ok but not super comfy. Often things don't work like the window shade is broken. The windows are dirty. The non reserved seats are actually more comfortable than the reserved which doesn't seem right. The space for sitting is very small and some seats don't have plugs Due to financial reasons I will still take Mega bus from time to time to see family but I will only take it (reluctantly ) because it is cheap not because I think it is good and when I have more money it will be definitely Greyhound or airplane. read more

Recently took Megabus from West Oakland to LA and back. This review is for my trip to Oakland, see my review for the trip to LA. 1. So much more organized than the West Oakland stop. Once I arrived, a man caught me off guard and asked me where I was going. I was so confused because he looked like any regular person, not like he worked with Megabus. Told him West Oakland and he placed my luggage in the proper area on the sidewalk. 2. After handing my luggage over, I checked in with a guy standing at a podium thing. Showed him my reservation email and he handed me a plastic card with a 12 on it. The number represents the order in which passengers arrive to the stop. They call you to board the bus in the order you arrived, which is such a good thing because people won't be rude. 3. I sat directly behind reserved seats #15+16 on the upper deck and had both seats to myself. I really wanted to sit on the lower deck (just in case) but all seats were taken by people and their carryons. No motion sickness at all during this trip. 4. Didn't use wifi again so idk if it's good or not. 5. Outlets worked for a few seconds then stopped working. 6. Bus driver was such a nice lady. She made little comments a few times during the drive such as "got some beautiful almond trees bloomin." read more

First time in SF and I didn't want to miss visiting LA! After discovering that a round-trip ticket would be in the hundreds, I decided to travel to LA via bus. Many of my colleagues told me that Greyhound was cheap but a bit sketch. So, I did my research and got good feedback with Megabus! So, I gave it a try! I was able to book my ticket online and got it for $40. That's sooo cheap! I took the 4PM to 12MN trip going to LA. Megabus ride was comfortable. I slept for 6 hours straight and didn't wake up with back pain or cramps. The restroom and bus were clean. The bus has WiFi and sockets. However, their WiFi isn't reliable on any device that I had on me. The bus in SF arrived on time. The bus in LA was delayed by 1.5 hours due to morning traffic. So, the buses are generally punctual. Overall, I wouldn't mind taking the Megabus again if I wanted to visit another city in California. I just hope they fix their WiFi in their buses :P read more

I hate these buses but I can honestly say the seats, design, and overall customer service is so much better on Bolt Buses. I had booked a trip with this bus company. I had to change my trip so I went onto the website to do it. My new trip cost a bit less than the initial trip. This company doesn't give refunds. I was aware of that when I had booked the initial trip and so rather than losing that trip I rebooked and payed the necessary fees to do so. I was under the impression that I'd be credited the difference back to my card as there was no reasonable indication on the website that would say otherwise. I gave the call center a call to be certain and they informed me that the difference in price was forfeit. I would've used that difference to book another trip had I known. Sometimes being cheap just isn't worth it. Last month I got a Megabus ticket from Las Vegas RTC South Strip Transfer Terminal to Los Angeles Union Station for $33 ($31 per ticket plus $2 online booking fee). It was slightly more expensive than Greyhound, but Greyhound Los Angeles Station is located in the skid row area and I felt more comfortable with the Megabus drop-off location (Union Station). [Pros] * Free Wi-Fi * Power outlet on each seat * Better bus drop-off locations than Greyhound's. [Cons] * The bus left 20 minutes after the original departure time (left at 2 PM instead of 1:35 PM) * Choppy internet connection * Terrible bus driver (multiple sudden jerks because driver just randomly slammed on the brakes; driver was unable to properly perform a simple reverse parking & he almost hit a car at the Baker pit stop because of it) * Mean bus driver (the bus driver said that tires need about additional 15 minutes to cool down, but he also instructed us to stay put and not to go across the street ... well it was really hot and I basically walked across the street to get myself a frozen yogurt from Yogurtland). * Too many pit stops (a stop at gas station in Baker after a long 2-hour traffic jam, a mandatory stop at the Riverside Amtrak, and a refueling stop at this gas station in Riverside) * Bus driver almost left few people at each gas station pit stop (including myself). While bus driver was refueled the bus, I went to Jack In The Box for ONLY 5 minutes and when I came back with food the bus driver closed the door ... I had to knock the door for the door to open. * The bus finally arrived 3.75 hours after the original estimated time (arrived at 10:45 PM instead of 7 PM). Unless I absolutely don't have any other choices, then I will not be taking both Megabus or Greyhound to Las Vegas. P.S. - I notice the Yelp monthly rating has been dropping since Fall 2014 ... so the currently 3.5-star average rating is a bit misleading. read more

Price is good but ive been on this bus several times now going back and fourth from vegas to LA AND I have to say that for some reason when going back to vegas we always arrive an hr or more later then the scheduled time. I'm sitting here at SF Caltrain station where my bus just keeps getting delayed. It started with 2 hrs of delay and now it's 3:30 hrs pushing the arrival time to early morning. The bus did get delayed by 4 hours but the rest of the trip was pretty good with a dinner break and arrival on time. They provided a compensation for the delay. Story Time: 2:05pm was the departing time. I got an email saying it was going to be delayed 30-45min. 1 Hour later (3pm) we get notified again for it saying addition 30-45min delay. So technically thats 1 Hour - 1:30 Hour being late. 3:30 should be the latest then. But no emails or notification for it arriving at 4:45........ ON TOP OF THAT we got a different bus, with no outlets, or wifi.... something called 5 Star Buses... I arrived at 1:50 as normal.... and now you guys know why this review deserves a 1 star. So awesome. Went from LA to Vegas and back- my friends and I had an awesome experience through and through. Pros: -Nice drivers -fast & super on time -half empty non-ghetto buses -and of course, cheap if you book early Cons: -A bit chilly on the bus itself (just make sure you wear pants and shoes with socks/maybe a sweater OR just bring a blanket -they don't stop at the obvious In N' Out that's like halfway to Vegas (and 2 stops before where we stopped for some shady popeye's/quizno's/panda express, though they don't always stop at the same places) Tips: -Bring a blanket/dress for the semi-cold. -Bring a pillow for trips where you want to sleep (this would have been clutch). -Sit in the back couple rows, definitely a lot more room EDIT: After someone just msgd me to ask where the actual MegaBus pickup place is at Union Station downtown, I thought I'd add my description of how to get to it, because it's not obvious at all- there's very little signage...sorry if this doesn't make sense but it makes sense in my head...I also added a pic on how to do it (yea, im that bored) 1st way: Ok, if you're looking at the front of the station, at the main entrance- walk to your right...keep walking (you'll pass a bunch of taxis on your right) and you basically follow this little street that leads you around the back of the building/station, and once you get around to the back of the building, it sort of goes uphill. At the top of this little hill you'll hit like some parking spots and a fence (behind the fence are train tracks). The fence is where the megabus busses show up- there's a little sign, but just liek black and white and no logo- just says "MegaBus" 2nd way: this is shorter but maybe a little harder to follow- if you're looking at the front entrance, walk to your right...in a little bit (pretty much where the taxies are), you'll see some like columns (on your left)- behind the columns is a little courtyard. walk through the courtyard and you'll see little steps leading to the back of the building (at the beginning of these steps there's a really ghetto/old Megabus sign on the wall). walk up the stairs and once you get to the top you'll see the fence/parking spots I was talking about in the 1st one. chill there or around that area and megabus will be there, on time. read more

My husband, myself and our best friend took the Megabus from Riverside to Las Vegas back in August. Overall, the experience was pleasant. We paid extra for reserved seats on top (they were nice, but we both agreed next time we'll just pay for normal tickets) and the bus ride did get a little bumpy, and outside of one instance where it actually did scare me a bit, it was still a relaxing trip. The bus arrived on time both coming and going, but it's coming back we ran into some problems. About 5-10 minuets after we had left, the bus driver said something over the radio (I still have no idea what he said) about technical difficulties. It was super vague and a little worrying so we didn't know what that meant. We pulled over and we were sitting on the side of the road for a few minuets. No communication at all about what was going on. Then he said something about how we had to go back and get a new bus. That wasn't his fault, but it was a bit tedious having to move to another bus, and sit in the heat as they moved the luggage over since the air wasn't on. That caused us to be about 3 hours late getting home, which to our little party wasn't an issue since we didn't have anywhere to be, but I'm sure those who were late to something were bothered. My husband and I already have plans to take the mega bus again next December so we can celebrate New Years in Vegas, but that's my honest review of the service and like I said, overall it was a good trip and worth the money! read more

Megabus is the cheapest way to get from LA to SF, and back! Cheapest roundtrip by plane = $120 Cheapest roundtrip by car = $100 Cheapest roundtrip by Megabus = $3 I booked my ticket a week prior, and got roundtrip tickets for $36. Amazingly affordable. All tickets must be purchased via their website. They will not accept money in person. They pick you up in LA at Union Station. If you enter through the front, just walk all the way toward the back and the Megabus stop should be right upstairs to the right. They give you a number, and you stand in line. There might be some hooligans who'll cut everyone and march in front of the line, but just let them be. The employees help take your suitcase/duffel and store it in the baggage compartment and you go in the bus and pick any seat you want. I sat both upstairs and downstairs, but I'd recommend taking a seat upstairs because it feels less suffocating. The two times I sat downstairs, I got very carsick (which rarely happens to me). There are some people who CLEARLY do not own deodorant, so be careful when choosing a seat unless you want to be smelling their filth for 7 hours. The bus makes a stop in Buttonwillow (the halfway mark), and they give you 25-30 minutes for food/bathroom break. Please don't take your sweet ass time and make other people in the bus wait for you. RUDE. The bus arrives in the CalTran station in SF, and it takes about 6.5 ~ 7.5 hours. Sometimes, 8.5 hours depending on the traffic and/or people lagging in the Buttonwillow break. UGH. The wifi does not work, so don't depend on it. I don't understand why other Yelpers are complaining about it not working. Are you serious? Do you realize how cheap your bus ticket was? Y'all should learn to be a little more thankful. They have outlets on every seat to charge your laptop/phone. I think that's amazing enough. read more

Allowing us to start checking in 40minutes prior to departure getting your voucher badge card, to getting the luggage on board and departing on time. You are able to get on the bus in a timely manner and get comfy in your seat. Definitely pleased with their service and affordability!! Round trip la-to-sanjose $66bucks. Bus is clean, wifi (not for streaming, but for FB, instagram, pintrest, twitter). Power outlets (between the seats) a PLUS!!! This is very safe, modern, affordable and accurate. My main concern about riding megabus was the safety, because both my daughter and i were women and it was 1130pm. But, i was relieved as i getting on. People were nice and quiet and taking a turn by two bus drivers at night. So i didn't be nervous and could get some sleep some times for 7hours 40mins. It is very modern, having free WiFi and outlets each seat. That is why mostly people were young age with iPad, computer and iPhone. And the bus itself is driven by computer operations. Very affordable. My daughter had an experience buying a ticket $1 before, as a promotion. Even this time we paid 74 for the two tickets, it was fair prices. Getting off the bus nearby downtown San Francisco and we didn't need to pay a taxi a lot. Very accurate time. The driver was driving a bus very safely but arriving time was very accurate. I am soooooo impressed and satisfied with my recent experience on the megabus. I have always flown to the bay area and never taken alternate transportation. Flights were $200 one way so MEGABUS here I came!!! I purchased my ticket the same week and it was $35.50. I arrived at the station at 4:40pm and was number 16 in the line (not bad). After people checking in bags were done, they began calling out numbers (they were given to us upon arrival). I got the top seat first row! My backpack fit underneath my legs and my purse was at the top on my legs. We left at 5:08 and made one stop in burbank to pick up additional riders, that's when I got a person sitting next to me. We made one stop in Kettlemen City for about 30 minutes. It was enough to thaw out, use the rest rooms and get some snacks. Thaw out? yes. Thaw out! I had read the reviews and thought it was just skinny girls complaining about the bus being cold....oh no...that bus was FREEZING!!!!! So cold I could barely feel my nose and was shivering. I did not bring a sweater or blanket and regretted it. Some women were buying blankets at the gas station during out stop. But it was fine. Our destination was WestOakland Bart...that was an adventure in its self but I will save that for my review there. OVERALL this was GREAT!!! I will do this again! read more

If WiFi is important for business travelers like myself I would say don't waste your money. Your better off taking a flight getting to where you need to be faster and getting work done when you get there. I took Megabus from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and if you're my friend, you know how much I've been raving about it. The depot is really easy to find. There are signs all over Union Station telling you where to go. I had someone drop me off, but you can park in the Universal Metro Station and take the red line to Union Station for $1.50/one way if you're leaving for a short weekend, or you can park your car in the underground lots they have at Union Station. Our bus was late, but I was in no rush. I feel like the driver made up the time in commute anyway. We left about 20-30 minutes after the stated time, but somehow we got there earlier than the stated arrival time. I went during a holiday weekend and left kind of in the afternoon on Saturday. The bus was pretty empty. I felt totally safe (mostly college students and Asian tourists). We had so much room that i had my own set of seats and fell asleep most of the way. -Ticket must be booked by people that have a credit card and online access - First come, first served choice of seats. Make sure when you get there, you find the guy to check in and get your boarding number. One day, I hope to get the front top part of the 2nd level! - Bus can be spacious, but can be cramped depending on how many people are on board. It's 2 stories, but the bathroom and luggage take about half of the bottom floor. - There are outlets at every seat and wifi on board. Do not rely on the wifi to do anything important... Or anything in general. On the way there, we were unfortunately sitting next to some students who thought Megabus was a party bus and were a bit loud and rowdy, but it was mid-day so it didn't bother me that much. It was COLD. Bring a jacket or small blanket with you if you think you need it. On the way back, I opted to take the midnight bus. A lot more cramped, a little more sketchy, a bit more smelly, and definitely not comfortable to sleep in. Good thing it wasn't too long of a ride! Overall, I couldn't complain because the ticket (after booking about 2 weeks in advance) came out to about $30 round trip. Even if I drove with 3 other people, I don't think we would have been able to commute for that cheap. I think it's worth it; I'm a huge advocate of Megabus and would suggest it for any last minute getaways nearby! read more

Personally, every time I take the Megabus I don't have any issues whatsoever. Just last night I purchased the wrong ticket for the 18th instead of the 19th. And closer to departing time the driver still let me get on the bus!!! I was forever grateful since that meant I would of been stranded in Vegas lol they have outlets, trash cans, and you can also reserve your seating if you will like. A few tips 1) you can bring one carry on and one luggage that will be put at the bottom of the bus 2) they have a restroom on the bus, some cleaner than others but I suggest you use the restroom before leaving. 3) when the bus driver makes a stop you have like 20 minutes to do whatever, make sure you are back in time or you will get LEFT!! 4) make sure you double check your dates before arriving lol don't make the same mistake I did. read more

In the short trip from San Francisco to Los Angeles, my laptop, laptop charger and iPhone 5 charger were stolen from my padlocked bag - which was ON the bus the entire time from when it left my hands and when it returned to my hands. I am giving them one star because they didn't steal my passport - although, with the intelligence of someone that would work for "megabus" as a luggage monkey - I'm sure they couldn't identify the value in a passport. My wife and I scheduled a trip to Vegas to attend a wedding in August of 2021. My wife no longer wants to go due to the recent rise in Covid cases in Nevada. I called Magabus for a refund as we're still 3-weeks from departure. They informed me that I can only receive a credit for a future trip, and this credit must be used immediately and scheduled for a trip no greater than 45 days from cancelation date. This means that if I cancel today July 23, I must book another trip to Vegas by September 7, well within the Covid risk period. They also charge a service fee of $3.00 per ticket each time I reschedule. Since we're thinking about going maybe late Spring of 2022, these fees will add up and require that I constantly cancel and re-book every 45 days. Due to their restrictive cancellation policy, we'll never use Magabus in the future. read more

Got the deal for $1 from LA to Vegas. It really is a party bus. People drinking, singing, laughing all the way to Vegas. People are pretty friendly on the bus though. We were offered donuts from others. Too bad we weren't offer the beers they were drinking.. haha. In terms of noise people don't really care. They blast music loudly, talk so loud others can hear their conversation, and some others move around the bus a lot. When we stopped at Barstow on the way back, people brought all sorts of food on the bus making it smell funky. Get there early for the extra leg room seats or the seats with tables. I'm taking them again to Vegas next week so hopefully the experience will be better. read more
