I have been to Meet Fresh in Vancouver, CAN and it was amazing. I was so excited to see one in Houston but was extremely disappointed. We ordered a Hot Tofu Pudding with Mini Q and it was ice cold. Only the syrup and the mini taro balls were lukewarm. I took it back to the counter and was surprised to see them warm it up in the microwave! Seriously, I could not believe my eyes. And their stations are a mess! They couldn't get my original bowl of dessert heated so they said would make me a new one, which I appreciated. I see a new bowl of tofu pudding come out a couple of minutes later and it was set to the side of the microwave. I watched to see if they would heat it up again and they didn't. Instead, they heated the syrup that goes on top of the tofu in the microwave...seriously? You can't keep the syrup warm over a stove top or a warmer? Seriously?! I really love the desserts here (because you can't find anything similar anywhere else) even though the customer service and crappy app. The price isn't super cheap but I think it's fair considering the fact that you can share a standard $10-12 dessert with a friend or take some home to enjoy later. I came in and the girl with the glasses at the front is not very welcoming. No greeting and when I asked for a to go container and lid, she seemed annoyed. And despite me saying thank you multiple times, she never said anything back to me. Maybe she had a bad day. We all do. But I certainly didn't feel comfortable asking her for anything more. Came here on a Saturday night after dinner time for dessert. Environment: bustling. Lots of people and not a lot of empty spaces to sit down. There are quite a few people who are hanging out after they eat, which is fine but it creates a problem of finding a spot. Tables are separated by plexiglass splash guards. The table we eventually settled with was sticky from desserts of previous patrons. Music and noise doesn't make it too difficult to carry a conversation. Food: tried some items that were seasonal. I've been to Meet Fresh locations all over the country. But the honest opinion from me (Taiwanese-American) is that all Meet Fresh items are very textural and subtle in flavor. If the item is a fresh food like a chunk of taro, red beans, or Ube paste it genuinely tastes like those things, but not much else is augmenting that. Ok so saying that is putting the food experience nicely. To preface this, I don't like sweets or desserts for the most part. I like my cakes from 6 Ping and 85c for this reason. So honestly, nothing is quite sweet enough, or some things are completely lacking in flavor. The shaved ice has not enough condensed milk based syrup to have some sweetness on every bite. The flan, QQ chewy balls are completely tasteless. But we all really enjoyed the grass jelly dessert with the ube and taro paste. It had a great medicinal taste in the both the jelly and the ice. I would return to get this item only. I desperately want to be proud of this chain because of where it comes from. But I always have a hard time finding a dessert that is acceptable to even my (not a sweet tooth) taste. Star deducted for table availability, cleanliness. My only complaint for the shaved ice is that it wasn't smooth and had more of a snowcone consistency, and the flavor didn't penetrate to the middle of the ice dome. The subtly sweet milk flavor was nice, and I liked the egg pudding & ice cream that came with it. The matcha red bean egg waffle was nice and crispy and tasted better when dipped in the shaved ice (we didn't get ice cream with the waffle). The parking lot sucks if we are being completely parking. Even with a garage it's pretty much useless. People will park on the fire lanes causing even more traffic and honkings. I didn't like how the menu didn't have any price indication. We ordered the mango shaved ice, a grass jelly dessert, and a wintermelon green tea. We asked the worker if the portions were big and he said everything we ordered is just enough to feed the both of us. Well the big came out to around $23 and the mango shaved ice itself was HUGE. Desserts are awesome and they have a ton of variety to satisfy just about anyone. When I'm near Chinatown, I like stopping by for their signature ice grass jelly or milk tea with grass jelly, both of which I think are fantastic. The signature grass jelly, while a little pricey, is easily shared with another person and tastes incredible. It's not too sweet and the grass jelly has a unique flavor not found in any other dessert or food I've had. The jelly is not the same texture as jello and melts in your mouth much easier, which is in contrast to the soft chewy taro balls that have only a mild taro taste. I think the balance of the flavor, sweetness and textures is what keeps me coming back for this unique dessert. It's outside of the major H-Mart/Great Wall shopping centers at the heart of Bellaire so parking is easier (there were plenty of spots directly outside the shop on a weekday at 8PM). I've been a bunch of times before for their shaved ice, which is always a hefty portion (though somehow I always finish between me and one other person?). The potaro balls and jelly are especially good. The last time we went, we got the matcha ice special which was just the right amount of sweet and had a yummy matcha flavor (make sure to mix a little as you eat though, some of the ice in the center is just.. ice without the flavorful condensed milk over top). The major con is the service. I don't expect much service-wise, but have been really let down on the ice cream flavor multiple times here. Once, they gave us strawberry ice cream seemingly randomly and the latest time, swapped vanilla for coconut despite us asking explicitly for the former at the counter. When we noticed an off-flavor to the ice cream, we inquired if it was vanilla at which point the staff informed us they had run out and only had the coconut flavor. I expressed to him that it was my first time here and had no idea what they served. He was kind enough to give me a sample of the taro and sweet potato balls. I ended up ordered their signature ice grass jelly since it was one of their top recommendations. After ordering, they hand you a buzzer and it will vibrate whenever it's ready. The wait can take long depending on the crowd. For me, I waited about 8 minutes. The signature ice grass jelly was slightly sweet, you could hardly tell to be honest. The white topper comes in a creamer container, which you pour over. Great for a boomerang! Towards the end of my dessert, the bottom was a little bitter. It could be from the grass jelly.
