If you get in really early, or it's particularly quiet, you might be able to be seen then and there. But this is unlikely - it's a very popular place for a reason! I got there about 10.30am and booked the earliest appointment left available, which was 3.45pm. When I arrived I was met by Abby, who would be cutting my hair. She sat me down and we talked through what I wanted. I was looking for a slight overhaul - most notably getting a fringe for the first time in ten years! She cautioned that the work I wanted doing would be quoted at £23.95 instead of the standard £20 (which is a wash, cut and finish). To be honest I was over the moon with the price, and we immediately got under way. A lovely girl washed my hair for me. She was very gentle and we chatted away whilst it was done. Once I was all squeaky clean Abby got to work. She put some long layers in my hair and cut in the fringe - the style of which I decided based on her advice. Once the cutting was done she blow dried my hair and added a few finishing snips. I was thrilled with the result - it was a complete hair makeover for me, and the best my hair has looked in years. Throughout Abby was chatting a friendly, a real pleasure to talk to. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone who wants a bargain haircut which looks like it cost a fortune. However I hate it because it's always so busy. This Saturday was no exception as it was really busy in there. I got the impression that they may have been short staffed but I wasn't made aware of any issues. Once seated, I was offered a hot drink and sat reading magazines for around 20 minutes. Once taken over to meet my stylist, she went through the style I had in mind, agreed it would work and then sent me off to have my hair washed before I returned to have it cut. The salon wasn't the most friendly I've ever been in and I wasn't made to feel overly welcome but it was OK for a trim.

I had some time to kill so as I was passing by, I thought I would try a 30 minute neck and shoulder massage. As I didn't have an appointment, the receptionist was really helpful and said that if I popped by in 15 minutes they could fit me in. When I came back, the beautician came over and started talking to me. Lovely lady, she's been working in beauty for years so she really knows her stuff. Although the massage itself didn't completely get rid of the pain in my shoulder (I think I actually needed a proper sports massage) it did relax me and my muscles. Even though I'd never been there before she really made me feel at home and almost like I had been a customer for years.

I opted to have a neck and shoulder massage, and it was lovely and painful all at once. The lady told me she was surprised at how painful I was finding it - but that it might have something to do with 'a buildup of crystals' in my arms. I have no idea what this means, and partially put it down to some kind of hippy stuff, though the salon itself feels quite upmarket when you're inside and not at all hippyish. I've been with this dentist - which takes NHS as well as private clients - since forever. I've had…read moreevil looking wisdom teeth removed here, sat through root canal treatment that was all sadly reminiscent of the torture scene in Marathan Man (not their fault at all by the way - they were lovely - it's just not very nice) and had my teeth scaled and polished to a nice pearly white. The staff - receptionists and dentists alike are all very nice, calm and professional and they have put up with me being consistently rubbish about turning up on time - usually thanks to the number 11 being its usual unreliable self. As well as offering standard treatments they have a hygienist and a range of cosmetic services available. When I had my wisdom teeth out the procedure was so noninvasive that I was able to go back to work after (although given how spaced out I was on local anaesthetic and the fact my then partner made me run for the bus I'm not sure this was such a brilliant idea) And another thing - not only do they sells a range of toothbrushes, floss, pokey stick things (for cleaning between the gaps - they look a bit like pipe cleaners) they have a really good range of magazines available too - no two year old copies of Take a Break here.
