I went to Medium Rare this past weekend with one of my friends to celebrate two of our friends' engagement, and it was definitely a vibe. We were looking for a Sunday brunch spot and were able to lock in a 10:30 AM reservation, which was clutch. Especially since it was Easter and I needed a last minute resy. Plus, there's a solid amount of street parking around, so no stress there. I really love how simple but still unique their brunch menu is--it just hits every time. I got the steak and eggs, and that sauce? Yeah... it does what it needs to do every single time. Super flavorful. And the fact that bottomless mimosas come with the meal? Say less. Brunch runs about $40 per person, which honestly is a steal for everything you're getting. We even took a few shots to celebrate, and I loved that when I noted it was an engagement, they came out with a dessert for the table which was real nice touch. Overall, great energy, good food, and just a solid brunch spot. I'll definitely be back.

Possibly the best kept secret. We sat at the bar and service was excellent. The $32 prox fixe menu includes bread, salad, and TWO servings of steak frites per order. We thought the bartender was joking when he said they were coming around w. Round two. We'd eaten here many years ago but for brunch there is a different menu so it was such a pleasant surprise. We also threw in a piece of the fudgy chocolate cake (add a scoops of ice cream) and it was the best most affordable dinner we' e had in the DMV!

TLDR: Great concept and cute ambiance, but small portions, mediocre steak, and rushed service made the experience fall short. I really wanted to enjoy this place. It gives off the impression of high quality food with a bit of classic diner charm. I love the concept, but the execution could be better. Starting with the positives, the bread was nice and the salad was fresh. There are some great touches, like the cheesy French lesson in the bathroom and the paper table tops where the server writes your order. Brunch offering one dollar all you can drink is a deal (the menu says 25 cent per drink but it is actually $1 all you can drink). The ambiance is cute overall, though the seats are quite close together. Now for the downsides. The steak portion was very small, and I was still quite hungry even after the bread and salad. The steak itself was not crispy or very hot, and it did not taste like great quality. Maybe my expectations were too high, especially with such a small, focused menu, but I was hoping for a better steak. Service unfortunately made things worse. Our server seemed eager to rush us out. He brought me a drink we did not order, and by the time I finished my first drink to have the extra one, it was watered down. For our third round, we ordered after he had already dropped off the check and he no longer seemed interested in serving us. We had to ask multiple times and even flag down another employee. He did not check in on us, and I could not find him when I wanted ketchup for my fries during the meal. Not sure why we were not attended to since the restaurant was not that busy.

You really can't go wrong with steak and fries for $35. Drinks and dessert are additional fees but this place is truly a no frills, simple meal. You choose your steak temperature preference and everything else is provided from there on. Staff is always great and friendly which is a plus.

Came here with a friend the other night and we were both extraaa hungry so two rounds of steak sounded great. It was packed , but the servers were still attentive which was great. The appetizers were delicious. My problem was with the steak, it was extremely cold, and while they did replace it for me, the new steak was lukewarm. In addition, the steak was extremely chewy and (maybe tmi) but I had to spit out 5-10 pieces because I couldn't chew anymore.

Tried this place for the first time and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't know what to expect but the salad was pretty good and the steak was already cut up but it was nice to know that after your first plate is eaten you can get a Second serving of steak and fries ! If it was one plate I think it would have thought it was too expensive but I guess with everything it's not a bad price and the steak was quite good. We were a big party so the waiter was a little ruder than I would have liked but overall it wasn't a bad experience. The one down side was that we brought a cake and the cake cutting price was more than how much I paid for dinner which I felt was a little ridiculous. I would recommend not cutting your cake here. But food and ambiance is very nice !

My first trip to Medium Rare in 7 years - well worth the wait. My wife and I had an early dinner on Friday after work. We were the first table seated, and by the time we finished 2/3 of all tables were occupied. If you haven't tried MR, it's prix fixe. You get awesome French French bread and butter, and a delicious salad. The main course is culotte steak and delicious fries with a tasty pepper sauce. An interesting thing they do is they serve your steak and fries in 2 servings, so when you finish your first plate they bring you another hot and fresh. The culottes steak is a cheaper cut, so don't expect a steakhouse style steak, but it is perfectly prepared and very tender. I barely had to use my knife; I cut most pieces with my fork. The service was fast and friendly. The meal is 31.95 per person, so dinner for 2 with tax was right at 70 bucks, and we had 1 serving of steak, 2 servings of fries, and 2 pieces of bread to take home. Great meal, great service, and a way better choice than fast casual or chain restaurants. I'm a fan!

This was the perfect surprise date on a beautiful summer day! First, there is a beautiful indoor and outdoor seating selection for you to choose from so book your reservations and select your pick-either provides great views. We decided to dine indoors. Staff were very friendly and our waiter was quick and attentive. I certainly appreciated him offering drink recommendations because his selections were perfect. Drinks: I ordered the Lavender 75 and my boyfriend ordered the Gold Rush. My drink was perfect for the summer and added a European vibes to my experience. My boyfriend's drink contained bourbon and it was so delicious and refreshing. Both drinks were our favorite. Food: The menu is prix fixe so guests start their experience by enjoying some crisp yet soft bread, followed by a wholesome salad, and end with steak frites. Everything paired together so well but the steak of course was the star of the show because it was bursting with flavor and topped with a delicious sauce. Ah, this was so delicious. Side dish: I wanted some more vegetables added to my plate so I ordered their side portobello-honey! I swore I was eating more steak because of the flavors seeping out of this dish. It was a beautiful compliment to a culinary fantasy ride. Dessert: I must say that the portions will fill you up pretty quickly so dessert was partially enjoyed and carried home. The carrot cake was soft and flavorful-things I look for when enjoying a wholesome dessert such as this. Overall, my dining experience was amazing here and I anticipate returning again.

This place continues to be one of my favorites of all time. Everything is on point, from the food (it's one of those menus where they serve one thing, steak frites, and they do it well.) to the ambiance (indoor or outdoor choices) to the service. The drinks are also delicious and well made I come to the restaurant to celebrate things, and I come here for pickup orders just when I'm craving that steak and secret sauce.

This is a popular chain restaurant that serves only one thing - Steak Frites. I thought the steak was alright, honestly not the best quality, but the sauce they served on top was heavenly. The sauce was super rich and creamy with a slight peppery tang. While the food was just mediocre, I would come back here just for the sauce! The service was nice and quick. But overall just an average chain restaurant serving steak frites. Apps: Mixed Green Salad Entrees: Steak Frites with Scrambled Eggs Drinks: Mimosa

A fun restaurant with an interesting concept! Our waiter was super welcoming, and helped make the experience fun. Our bread, salad, and drinks all came out very fast. The steak was fine - the sauce is AMAZING. I took off a star because I asked for medium and they definitely cooked it medium rare (and my steak looked the same as everyone on my table despite the difference in order) which I usually wouldn't care too much about except their specialty is steak, so that was a little disappointing. The server also spilled some steak juice onto my pants as she was setting my plate down and didn't notice at all. You definitely get a good amount of food, and think it was a fun time.

This is a fantastic fixed menu restaurant. You get fries, steak, bread and salad as your meal. The food is high quality and despite being packed, comes out quickly. The drinks and dessert are good as well. The only thing that you need to know besides the fixed menu is that the steak comes out as thinly shaved pieces and covered in a sauce. So don't go thinking you'll have a big hunk of meat to tear into. I really enjoyed my experience here and parking was easy. I'll definitely come back again.

They had a cute outdoor seating space, however it was cold and rainy so we couldn't sit there. We had the fried green tomatoes, snd both got the salmon with two sides of your choice. I got Brussels sprouts and potatoes. She got Mac and cheese and salad. The salmon was perfectly cooked and potatoes were crispy and salty on the outside and creamy potato on the inside. Yum!! The wait wasn't long, and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. They also offer a Monday-Friday happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM, which is worth noting. Now that we've covered the positives... I came with my family, as we usually go out to eat on Sundays after church. I ordered the shrimp and grits, my sister had the dark‑meat chicken with fries, that unfortunately had to be switched when they brought her the wrong white meat, chicken and fries. My granddaughter got sausage and grits. There are no pictures of the food because I don't recommend you come here if you're looking for real southern food. I personally won't be back and won't waste storage space on disappointment. The shrimp and grits....the portion was so small, I thought they accidentally brought me the sample plate. It should honestly be listed under "Kids Menu". The menu says it comes with chorizo pork sausage, but instead of sliced pieces like normal restaurants, it was crumbled so tiny I thought it was seasoning dust. When I asked about it, they told me it's "put in very small so you don't know it's there." Well... congratulations. Mission accomplished. You get six shrimp, and they claim the dish is "spicy". Please, the spice level was somewhere between tap water and air. Then there was the chicken dish. I tasted it, and my sister will give you the full breakdown in her own review. The skin had a nice honey flavor, I'll give them that. But once you get past the skin, the chicken was out here playing hide‑and‑seek with the seasoning. Completely bland. The fries were fine, not great, not terrible, just fries. Now, the bathroom: I was unimpressed. When you walk in, there were paper towels on the floor and toilet paper in places it shouldn't be. The handicap stall does have a baby‑changing table and some extra paper towel and tissue supplies, which is helpful. However, the toilet seat covers in the handicap stall need to be replaced, even though the other stall had some available. Overall, the restroom did not feel well‑maintained. Great service can't make up for food and facilities that simply don't deliver. This was a disappointing visit, and I won't be back.

When we made the reservation in advance, we called to ask if happy hour was everywhere or just at the bar; they said everywhere, so we booked a table. Plot twist, it's only at the bar / downstairs :))) We arrived 15 minutes early, so while they got our table ready, we ordered at the bar. 5 stars for the bartender. If I could review her, the host, and the happy hour prices in isolation, I would! They moved us upstairs, we sat down, and immediately saw the menus were different. We asked the gentleman bringing waters about happy hour and he sent the waiter over. The waiter, with about 2% helpfulness, shared that happy hour is only downstairs. I mentioned that we had called in advance to ask. We asked if it would be possible to have that menu or perhaps move. The conversation felt like pulling teeth. He said, with much dismissiveness, it was up to the host downstairs to move and if they had availability and left. (Fair, we move, he doesn't get his tip. An alternative? Give us the happy hour menu, still get your tip. Better yet, just be slightly helpful?) The host downstairs found us a table but shared it was booked at 6:15 so we needed to be in and out. It was no problem because we had arrived before 5 (early, remember?). Although, it took 15 minutes (I timed it!) for anyone to come bring waters or address us as their table. A little hard to operate with urgency when no one takes your order!! I got up, told the host stand, and they sent a server over, and he proceeded to come back all of three times. We also had to flag him down to get our check, while we sat with empty waters that were never once refilled. We had pizza, cod sliders, and half orders of aglio e olio pasta. The cod sliders were more breadding than fish, but the flavor was decent. The pasta was delicious. No five star Italian meal, but it hit the spot and the portion was plentiful. I didn't try the pizza but it was 12 inches, piping hot, and the two eating it couldn't finish it. The food came out quickly and hot. I think we spent under or just about $100 for four folks to have dinner + drinks, so the prices are really solid. Perhaps you get what you pay for though? Both of our male servers seemed annoyed to be dealing with us and mostly unhelpful. Noteworthy mention: there was a female server who was kind enough to bring us a brown paper bag for our to go box. She was running around and her tables seemed well cared for. Disappointed in my experience and the customer service.

A very nice touch to add a stem of Rose for the women. I would say that I gave it a lower star rating not because the food was bad. It was actually delicious, but probably the experience itself. The restaurant felt chaotic, and even though all the tables were not completely packed of course there were flowers everywhere people gathering with grandmother's mother's children, etc We were seated in a two people table and all the top past dishes started to pile up very quickly. Instead of monitoring, the progress of the finished dishes and removing those dishes due to space constraint, the dishes came from the kitchen, almost on top of one another, and at one point I had to hold a dish in my hand in order to make space to put a dish on top of another flatbread pan/dish, making things super chaotic. Also dishes had to be put on top of the menu because in order to order additional food, you need to leave at least one copy of the menu at the table. Overall, again the flavors and taste were good, though I might have had similar dishes from other places, and my partner commented that some of it is actually very close to the Capital One landing at DCA. I would just say that it was more due to the chaos and just the way that all the dishes piled up on top of us we felt like we were we had to eat super quickly so that we could stack dishes ourselves and create room at the table. Also, when serving the dishes were not kept level and basically was slide to the side of the dish, making presentation off
