They are in a financial crisis and haven't even been paying their employees or implementing student refunds, which is essentially stealing loan money from their students to keep the doors open! HR is non-existent during this crisis and no one is addressing when or if the workers are going to be paid! I've never heard of such a thing in my life! This place makes Brown-Mackie and Antonelli look like a dream!

The Christ College is a JOKE! Advisors rarely interact with the student in building their courses…read more The college itself has nothing to assist students that need accommodations. Expect give you extra time on a test. There is not even an IEP plan!?! You're forced into buying online books ($1,500.00) that you won't even have access to after two years! The college builds itself as being "I am in the right place" when in fact you feel like you're in the WRONG place! Thus why a majority students leave after their first year. Positive side to it... the professors who teach the courses. That is the only good thing that this campus has to offer.

My whirlwind trip to Cincy for NCECA pottery convention also included me hitting up some local…read moregalleries and participating in show receptions. I was enthralled walking into this space and the gallery displays were phenomenal! One of my favorite artists was actually there talking about her pieces- and it is always wonderful to meet the artist behind exhibited pieces! She made wonderful sculptures of busts and heads with what I would call brain chaos sprouting out of the tops of the heads. For me- I love art that sparks an emotional response, is something relatable, or something that just sparks my curiosity and imagination. There were plenty of other artists work there too and I loved several different pieces. On this particular evening I was sprinting through town hitting up several galleries- but this was my first stop and made a huge impression on me. The space itself is also wonderful. We were only allowed access to the downstairs gallery, I assume classrooms were upstairs or downstairs (or both) and I could see there were other exhibits, but those were closed. Cincinnati really embraced the NCECA pottery crowd and made sure to have as many exhibits across town as possible!

The Art Academy has come a really long way in the past few years. They used to be located in Mt…read more Adams but recently purchased a larger building in Over-the-Rhine and have moved everything downtown. It's a beautiful building on Jackson Street that was re-done to fit the style of the Art Academy. Inside there is a sprawling atrium that looks up all the floors around the staircases. There is gallery space all over the building and chances are there is some show up. Right now the SOS Political art show is hung up as well as the Visual Fringe Gallery for the Fringe Festival. The Art Academy generously donates a classroom to the Fringe Festival as well for it's use for a few plays and it's a great space for them! The Art Academy unfortunately had a rapid decrease in enrollment since their move downtown, which was to be expected. However, with the revitalization of the gateway quarter (as it's now being called) things should be looking up for them. If you are looking for a great art school for all aspects of visual art and design, this is the place to go!

I attended the Good 'n Local food show here yesterday and was blown away by how neat this building…read moreis. When you walk in, there is a giant cement staircase and plant wall that all just looks SUPER cool. I am pregnant and needed to use the elevator, so I had to walk through the building. I was able to see into several different makerspaces and watch people work with wood and 3D printing. Once upstairs for the event, I found myself in more of an office/large lobbies area with an event space sort of like a garage. It was the perfect location for this event and I was excited to get to check it out.

UC has been adding various types of makerspaces across​ the campus but they are piecemeal​ and of varying​ quality. I am a bit concerned​ about its distance from the main campus; I understand the UC is running out of room on the main campus, but I hope this is not an indication of a trend. They have done a good job of making it open to all, ​but I hope that it does not separate​ itself from the university. I can imagine a time in the near future where this area becomes like the ​medical campus for main campus students, a place where they rarely​ venture and is not really intended for them.

Architectural gem in Cincinnati. The only building in the…read morearea designed by renowned architect, Frank Gehry. As many of his buildings, it possesses a folded winding asymetrical facade with a mix of materials, mostly glass, steel, and, quite surprisingly, bricks. This is, unlike most of his projects, a less bold and quite mellow project. Many people refer to it as a deconstructed barrel. If you are familiar with Gehry's work and style, you will still instantly recognize his genius here. Because it is a University of Cincinnati's building housing research laboratories, the original project, that included much more external steel and glass, was toned down. Personally, I find it sad that they chose Gehry to design a research building, which by its nature requires straight angles and enforced walls for a lot of equipment. I feel the practicality of this project forced Gehry to compromise a lot of his vision, and yet it is still a distinct and focal point of the medical campus. The building undergoes some exterior renovation at this time, but once in the area, don't forget to check it out and see the interior as well. Since it houses the Vontz Center for Molecular Studies, there are a lot of active cancer research labs inside and access indoor may be restricted. The gallery presenting life and work of Albert Sabin, the inventor of oral polio vaccine, is also there in the main hall. Happy to see this beauty on campus almost daily. I attended Soapbox Speaker Series: Craft Beer As Community Development discussion with 3 local breweries Rhinegeist in OTR, Nine Giant (who opens in Pleasant Ridge in September) and Weidemann's in NKY. Great discussion on how craft beer brings communities together, revitalizes neighborhoods, creates jobs. Do we have too many breweries in town? No as the discussion continued citing Portland, OR and San Diego, CA as examples with 50 breweries. At the end of the session everyone enjoyed samples of the local beer. It is an interdisciplinary studio off campus (on Short Vine) that allows students to attempt to solve real world problems and interact with people in the community. I attended a speaker series by Soapbox Media (which I highly recommend, www.soapboxmedia.com) talking about the urbanist movement. Long story short, free beer and excellent conversations. Grandmother went into the ER for a stroke. She got one single meal from the hospital over a stay of…read more5 days. We sat on the line for food for 45 minutes to no response, just to get told they changed the meal plan that day and nothing could be done. Even after that day she received no food from the hospital, we had to bring in food every time (just to get questioned). She passed her swallow test a half dozen times and still wasn't allowed solid food except for the first day when they gave her a full breakfast. Asked important questions many times (like if we can sit her up and feed her) to be told "we'll be back in a bit" and the nurse never came back. Multiple times my grandma herself, still recovering from a stroke, had to tell the nurses what the doctors said, which would clearly tell you nobody has any idea what's going on at this hospital. They botched her spinal tap and left her in agonizing pain for hours overnight and we had to call the nurses more than once to ask for painkillers. We got almost no updates about any step of her care and I had to ask her multiple times for basic information that should be provided to a family. A nurse also gave her a shot in the wrong place (her arm instead of her stomach) which left the specialist team appalled, and her arm almost unusable. On the last day, the nurse giving her a stroke exam literally threw her limbs around, violently tugging on the arm that she said was in pain repeatedly. At the same time she was nearly yelling at my grandmother to relax her arms which she was unable to do. This went on for 15 minutes. This is all not even mentioning the many times we were lied to or given otherwise incorrect information. If someone goes here and are not completely lucid and able to advocate for themselves firmly, the medical team will do what they want and leave them in pain without any assistance for hours. The nurses are usually pretty nice, but so understaffed that they repeatedly forget or omit basic care and comfort. As mentioned, we were told multiple times we'd get updates on what we can and cannot do, just for the nurses to not return. The only real compassion came from medical students. Lastly, visiting in the ER is hit or miss. Sometimes you'll be let back in 5 minutes if you have already entered, other times you'll wait upwards of 2 hours. Third day I was let in in under 10 minutes. I went out for coffee after a half hour and had my visitor badge still on. I went to get let back in and had to wait 2 hours just to "confirm with the nurse". All of that is not to mention the abusive and inhumane treatment of people begging for help in the ER lobby I saw. A man doubled over in pain sitting in a chair, unable to talk, had to be noticed by the police manning the metal detector and put in a wheelchair by them instead of the actual medical personnel. As expected, as soon as they got him over to help the nurse began interrogating him for his name rather than assessing his condition while he was nearly falling out of the chair and only able to grunt, while grasping his stomach tightly and struggling to breathe normally. All of this is specific to the ER, so you must keep that in mind. In all honesty if you have a serious medical emergency, you'd probably be better off staying home and booking an appointment for your regular doctor than going to UC health's "emergency" room.
