You can't miss him--Meadow Gold Mack, the towering "friendly lumberjack" standing proud along Route 66 in Tulsa. Clad in bright blue pants and wielding a red axe like a hero straight out of an old Americana postcard, Mack is a photo op waiting to happen. The statue itself is massive, cheerful, and polished to near perfection. He's part classic roadside kitsch, part Tulsa charm, and 100% Instagram gold. The mural behind him gives it extra flair, tying in the Route 66 theme with bright colors and a touch of vintage roadside magic. Right next door, there's a fun little shop packed with Route 66 memorabilia--souvenirs, retro signs, and a healthy dose of nostalgia. It's a great quick stop, especially if you're exploring Tulsa's stretch of the Mother Road.

I had a co-worker…read moreworking from our Tulsa office in town from Abilene and she wanted to know where she could go to find a cool Tulsa shirt for her husband and kiddo so I told her to check this place out. We went on our lunch break one day and I'm so glad I decided to go with her since I'd never been because there is so much cool stuff here! The selection of shirts here with everything from a simple Oklahoma logo to a funny saying about being an Okie or a Tulsan is quite impressive. As a typical souvenir shop, the knick knacks here range from keychains to cups to household items to local products like honey and such. I really enjoyed the selection of locally made items and the variety of colors all over the store. They sell beverages, candies, and other tasty looking items. There were several baby things so if you needed a baby shower gift or gift for a kid this would be a great place to check out. My family and friends that are from Tulsa and Oklahoma are pretty proud to be from here so realistically this is a great place for gifts in general. Would be a fun place to bring a kid too because of all the fun little candies and knick knacks. I have to say I knew they sold shirts here because I've seen people around Tulsa wearing shirts with the Ida Red logo on the back, but I had no idea what to expect when I showed up. The selection and variety did not disappoint! I will be back here for sure for gifts for others (and myself--treat yo self)!

This Christmas found me needing a gift for someone that I didn't know a lot about (long story…read morethere), but it needed to be (a) special and (b) fairly unique. To that end, The Wife suggested we try Ida Red's, since what she knew about the place sorta jived with the vibe I was looking for. We made the trip in and man oh man, is there a lot to choose from. From cool to kitsch, from funny to puzzling, Ida Red's has it all. I will confess to Ida's not being the kind of place I would envision myself shopping at, but that's because I'm old, stodgy and a general curmudgeon. So I was pleasantly surprised and amused with Ida's. Overall, a really neat place with TONS of local craft merchandise. Now that I have a better idea of their offerings, I can plan a trip back, knowing what I'm looking for.

Think bosses, secretaries, children's teachers, etc. i usually end up wandering the store again and again until I settle on a random item. This places accepts credit cards and does complimentary gift wrapping. For my fiancé's secretary and schedulers during Christmas $50 candles. Packaging was divine and came in appropriate old lady scents. They raced about them. For my own bosses during the holidays, light up novelty tumblers and jars of chocolate chip cookies. On this occasion, I came to get a birthday gift for my boss. Personalized items are the best! You can get anything personalized. It shows the person that you took time to get it made, but can still be rather impersonal. Think personalized wine glasses or luggage. Cons: this location was close to my massage place so I came here. It doesn't have parking and I had to walk far to get here. Will definitely just stick to the location closer to my home.

On a Whim carries more up-scale designers. They have clothing, hand bags, shoes, jewelry, baby, and home accents. Also, one of my favorites, On a Whim is one of the few stores in Tulsa to carry Kendra Scott jewelry! The staff is very energetic and always willing to help. It is a very fun store. There is street parking along Peoria, but there is also a large lot behind the store. Again, it is somewhat expensive, but this is the place to find the designer brands. So, you should stop by, On a Whim!

However, I noticed that it seems to have less cool stuff on the shelves than it did on my previous visits. Even so, it still has plenty. You need a souvenir that says Tulsa, or Route 66? This is the place to find it. And they still have the super cool Okies trinket machine. It takes $5 tokens, but I don't even care, I love that machine! Love me some Okies! First thing I did was buy a token and try my luck. I got a duplicate Buck Atom, which I ended up giving to my sister to start her collection of Okies. What's missing are the Rayguns and Robots I raved about in my previous review. They are no longer sold here. When I didn't see any on display I asked the person behind the counter about them. She graciously shared that the guy that creates those robots, Oklahoma artist Josh Waddell, has a space down the block at a business named Meadow Gold Mack. I had never heard of Meadow Gold Mack, so I was grateful for the information. It's a great place to visit too. I enjoyed looking at all the great souvenirs and collectibles. After I saw everything, I bought a couple post cards and some stickers, and I was on my way to my next stop. Mikey C says: Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on 66? Five Star All Day!
