I came prepared -- researched what I needed ahead of time, downloaded the right application, filled it out, and made an appointment online. When I arrived, they checked me in quickly and even escorted me to the right window for service. The office was very clean and organized, so that's an easy five stars. The service was excellent from start to finish -- everyone I interacted with was polite, helpful, and seemed genuinely committed to making the process smooth. The quality of the experience was great too. The instructions online matched what was needed in person, and when I made a small error on my form, the clerk helped me correct it on the spot. The efficiency score, though, takes a small hit. My appointment confirmation never came through by email, and because of that, no one was going to call me over the intercom. Luckily, someone came to get me personally within a minute of sitting down, which made up for it. Still, it shows the system isn't perfect. Lastly, the value of the experience gets four stars. One front-desk clerk got distracted when other customers interrupted us, which slowed things down a bit -- but he was courteous, and I appreciated his effort to get me taken care of once we got back on track. All in all, I was in and out in 15 minutes. That's not just fast for the DMV -- that's record-breaking. Hopefully, reviews like this encourage more people to give this team credit where it's due.. . and more importantly, that this team continues to give people reasons to give it the review that I did. Good job, Midway Crossing location (Mall of Americas -- Miami) . Keep it up!

We did have to go through TSA here and had no issues. Concourses H and J are located in Miami International Airport's South Terminal. There are two security checkpoints here: Checkpoint 9 and Checkpoint 10. Both checkpoints go to the H and J gates. On this recent trip through MIA, I think we went through Checkpoint 9. We used CLEAR Plus with TSA PreCheck. As is usually our experience with CLEAR, there was a surplus of employees and kiosks and the process was lightning fast. After a couple scans, we were escorted by a polite, nicely-dressed CLEAR employee to the next available TSA PreCheck agent. We get CLEAR+ for "free" via an American Express Platinum Card benefit. Amex credits the CLEAR+ annual membership fee of $209 for each cardholder. The cards and benefits have proven worthwhile for us.

There was no reason for the delay. Then she started letting nearly the entire Clear lane go through before us when she could tell we were frustrated by our faces. They even had to send some people to another concourse gate. About 50 people went through the regular line for every 1 precheck person. How can they keep these people employed when so many would line up for a job and do better. I'm sure their union protects this lazy worker while her co-workers look on with resentment.

The City of Miami Springs was founded as Country Club Estates by aviation pioneer, inventor and…read moreland developer Glenn H. Curtiss who was a contemporary of the Wright brothers. The area was known for its natural springs and after being referred to as Miami Springs, the name was officially changed in 1930. The expansion of the Miami canal along with major canal projects changed the landscape and reduced the water pressure that used to force water up from the Biscayne Aquifer so there are no longer any springs. Glenn started his career building and racing motorcycles. From there he moved into building airships racking up many flying firsts along the way. His innovation in planes helped the military in the run up to WWI. His planes were also used during WWII. His  accomplishments and inventions are too many to list. He was considered the Henry Ford of the aviation world. Curtiss moved to Miami in the 1920's to start an aviation school with his partner James Bright. Curtiss and Bright purchased 17,000 acres of scrub and pasture land that years later would become Miami Springs, Hialeah, and Opa-Locka. Curtiss went on to found 18 corporations and he developed Miami Springs in 1926. Many of the earliest residents of Miami Springs were employed by the Seaboard and Florida Coast Railroads whose yards were adjacent to the city. Glenn Curtiss was instrumental in developing the airport to the south and as it grew so did Miami Springs. The city became the favorite community for people employed by airlines and related businesses. Miami Springs is only a 2.9-square-mile, triangle. It is packed with historic buildings from the 1920's, many of which are in the Pueblo Revival design. My favorite part of Miami Springs is the historic downtown area where you will find a circle with a gazebo that has a tiny plane on top in honor of Curtiss. In the circle is historical information related to Glenn Curtiss. The downtown contains professional offices, restaurants and small retail stores. The Miami Springs Golf Course was the first golf course to be built in Miami-Dade County and pre-dates the incorporation of Miami Springs. The Miami Open was held at the club for 30 years, from 1925 to 1955. In 2006 the clubhouse and greens were renovated and the course was declared a local historic site. It is the oldest municipal golf course in South Florida. Some of the most prestigious homes in the community line the golf course including the Curtiss Mansion. You can learn more about Glenn Curtiss at his mansion that has been beautifully restored. It is open for tours and can be rented for private events. I love visiting Miami Springs to explore the architecture, grab a meal, or learn more about Glenn Curtiss. This small city has an Old Florida feel completely different from the rest of Miami. They are some really cool historic lift bridges in and out of the city. It is like it's own island and the Pueblo Revival architecture is so charming. It is always a pleasure to visit Miami Springs.

Miami VA is a teaching hospital. This is mainly a positive since the residents aren't on a time…read moreclock and can spend as much time on your case as required. Their diagnosis and treatment plan is checked by a "real" doctor. Often time several residents look at your case and can pool their knowledge. I have received better care at this hospital than I did on active duty, mainly because of the residents. The prosthetics department is particularly good. The quality of equipment is outstanding. At other VAs lower quality supplies are used and are not conducive to actually using the product on a daily basis. The OEF / OIF clinic is an all around great place with all of the staff passionate about veterans and concerned about getting them the proper care. It is a very good on-ramp for new veterans into the VA system. The only problems ever experienced there were when the regular Admin staff called in sick (see below) The pharmacy is excellent. Substitutions to name brand drugs are permitted when the doctors go through the protocol of justifying the medication and trying the generic / cheaper versions first. There are occasional slip ups in shipping, so you need to keep an eye on your status for critical meds. Parking situation has improved. The courtesy shuttle is an welcome addition. CONs Aging infrastructure. This hospital needs to have a major overhaul. HVAC system not zoned properly causing temperature extremes between rooms. Some room have space heaters and others have extra air conditioners. Water leaks throughout hospital raise risk of black mold in materials not replaced after leak. Employees are all over the spectrum in competence and helpfulness. Some feel entitled to their job and are only doing the bare minimum. Others are passionate about helping veterans. Some want to be helpful, but don't know how to help. Others are jaded. The hospital is so confusing many of the employees do not know what services are available. Generally the weak link are the admin support specialists. Department heads have limited ability to correct low-performers and this causes frustration on both the provider and patient side of the house. Many times an admin specialist calls in sick (understood), but a back fill does not come until an hour or two later. An example is that the admin specialist is supposed to be present at 0730. The clinic does not call the admin department to request a backfill until 0800. The replacement does not show up until 0900. Meanwhile, patients are not being seen and the clinic backs up the remainder of the day. WARD 11B is a death trap!!! I was checked in for a possible stroke and all I needed to be released was an MRI. The nurses did not even know I was on the floor. They told my wife that I was not there and I was only three doors away form the nurses station. When the transport person came to the ward to take me to the MRI, the nurses told him that I was not there. When the doctors came the next day for rounds, they were dumbfounded that the MRI was not conducted. Fortunately for me it was not a stroke, but it could have been tragic. SARRTP 5D is horrible. Lack of supervision of patients creates life threatening situations. Patients leave and get hooked up in the parking lot and come back into unit drunk or high. The nurse staff is either absent or behind their desk and do not check. Drug tests are too predictable and do not serve as a deterrent . Many veterans are accepted into the program that are there only because they need a place to stay and are not committed to participating in the program. There should be other social services for homeless veterans instead of them having to feign addiction or psychiatric condition to get a warm bed and a meal. The lack of supervision and veterans that are not sincere in making progress make it difficult for those sincerely trying. Funding is sporadic. Some departments have top of the line equipment and other departments cannot even afford cheap items needed for patient care. This unevenness is penny wise and pound foolish in that the areas that are cut are areas that are preventative or that would prevent further health problems down the road. The quality control metrics are well thought out, but at least from some of the reports that I saw were inaccurate that could only be explained by the departments lying on the report or manipulating the data. Sanitation department needs major quality control or extra personnel. The bathrooms are always filthy during the day. When clinics / departments have segregated "staff only" bathrooms because they do not want to use filthy "veteran" bathrooms you know there is a problem.
