I set up an appt. to meet with Mr. Williams to represent me in a divorce. Mr. Williams met with me and took all of my information in a professional manor, accepted my case and I paid him my retaining fee. My case was clearly one of emotional and psychological abuse by my now ex but I was not aware at that time of that form of abuse. Soon afterwards, things got worse and it became of a physical nature. I called Mr. William's office and spoke with his secretary. He was aware of the time I would be arriving and that something immediate needed to be done. I arrived at his office upset and scared with my young daughter and was greeted by his secretary who immediately handed me the money I had given Mr. Williams and told me he could not handle my case due to a "conflict of interest" ( It appears my ex had contacted him at some point, maybe after a previous situation where my ex physically abused one of the children and I threatened to leave several years earlier) but was not representing him and to my knowledge had never been retained by my ex. I started crying and asked to see him to inquire what I should do and was told he was unavailable. I explained to the secretary that I believed we were in immediate need of help as my husband at the time had become physical and also had pursued two of the children in a fit of rage the night before. The secretary could only apologize and say that they could not help. I left there and went to the courthouse as I did not know what else to do and by some fate or higher intervention, a courthouse staff member referred me to the women's shelter rep. who happened to be at the courthouse at that very moment. So I guess my misfortune became my blessing as I was immediately seen by a judge who ordered my (ex) husband to be removed from the home and I had help through the entire divorce process thanks to the women's shelter. This was a few years back so I hope Mr. Williams has more experience and empathy in situations as mine now. I do not like leaving negative reviews but it's been years and this experience I endured and my daughter having witnessed my meltdown in Mr. Williams office has stuck with me. It would have only taken a moment of his time to show some human kindness and concern. As a divorce attorney I am sure he could have given me some kind of direction or information, or at the very least, educated his secretary in making sure she knew the agencies or legal assistance contacts to share with individuals seeking help. He could be an excellent attorney in other areas but as an experienced survivor of domestic violence, I cannot recommend him for individuals seeking a comforting, reassuring, legal representative during a divorce.
