For more than 45 years, we have helped the injured and their families recover the compensation they need to move forward after being seriously injured through no fault of their own.

History

Established in 1973.

In 1973, Pat McWhirter formed the partnership of Hunter & McWhirter with James Earl Hunter and focused on personal injury law. In 1977, Mr. McWhirter was elected as the Public Defender in Lexington County. In 1986, the firm became McWhirter & Associates with a practice limited to the various areas of personal injury law, including workers' compensation, auto accidents, medical malpractice, wrongful death, premises liability and products liability. In 1988, he expanded the firm to include an office in Columbia and by 1996, the firm had added offices in Sumter and Orangeburg. The name of the firm became McWhirter, Bellinger & Associates, PA. Today, McWhirter, Bellinger and Associates, P.A., has expanded to seven offices with a staff of more than sixty employees, including fourteen attorneys, and has brought to successful settlement or verdict thousands of personal injury cases.

Meet the Business Owner: Pat M.

Pat McWhirter was born in Walterboro, SC and received his B.A. from the University of South Carolina in 1969 and his J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1973. Mr. McWhirter was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1973, the United States District Court, District of South Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals, Fourth Circuit, in 1974. He is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association and has formerly been a member of its Professional Responsibility Committee, its Torts and Insurance Practice and Workers' Compensation sections, and its House of Delegates. He is also a member of the Lexington County (former Executive Committee member) and Richland County Bar Associations.
