As someone who had never been to Cologne, let alone Germany, before, I had no idea where to even start. I lucked out with McPaper. Other than the stupid name, the store was great. It was located at the train station, so super convenient, with good hours. And it had everything I needed. Unfortunately, the reason I needed an office supply store was annoying and I should never have needed to look for one while I was in Cologne (long story about an extremely disorganized project leader), but I'm glad I found this place.

They have a nice selection of stationery sets, but everything is so pricey!!!... and everything is…read morewrapped up in plastic, so you can't check paper quality, or how notebooks lay open. You need to have a sample open!!!! The staff either completely ignored me or were a bit huffy. Like they really didn't want to be there. Lots of fountain pens, and staff actually somewhat knowledgeable about them. One whole back corner is full of the kind of blah-colored crap you get for wedding or anniversary gifts, or for an award or something- they should get rid of it and fill it with notebooks or teach calligraphy classes or something. Their greeting cards were alllllll boring as hell. They need to update that. They had lots of cool fountain pen / dip pen inks, even sparkly ones, but they were on dusty shelves near the floor, all but forgotten.
