We are a non-profit organization and our experience with McNeil has been extremely positive. As the representative on the employer side, I find them more personable and easy to deal with comparing with other agencies. Contrary to my other experience with other agencies, I was not treated simply as an account or a sales target by McNeil. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we were in need of some professional accounting and HR help in a relatively short period of time. I was connected to Cheryl, one of the partners, and she had helped us identify some key areas for the person we needed to bring in. We ended up bringing in the accounting professional on board as our permanent staff with their expert advice. In the process of bringing in other temporary helps, Torie was absolutely amazing as well - she followed up with us quickly with any concerns or questions, and she was able to provide numerous of qualified candidates within days of notice. While it is not always the case for everyone when dealing with recruitment agencies, I feel that I was really lucky having Torie handling our needs. After being one of 50 employees laid off from my previous role, I was looking for temp work while continuing with my studies during this time of transition (Since then, my previous company has gone through 2 more rounds of layoffs). Initially, I was impressed with the interview/application process with McNak as well as their professional demeanor and beautiful office space. However, unfortunately, thereafter, it was short-lived. I had attempted to make contact w/ a couple of McNak HR consultants but was unsuccessful, either by phone or email. In addition to applying to several different positions and asking the HR consultant to provide feedback, even if I was not a successful candidate for a permanent role through McNak temp agency, I found that the HR consultant did not have the courtesy to reply back to my emails, even after a polite voice mail and repeated email inquiries. This was surprisingly peculiar since a number of the positions I had applied for I was over-qualified for, had a great attitude and a strong work ethic. In addition, it was surprising I would be treated as such since I also happen to meet other McNak temp employees at a temp assignment requiring a number of temps from different temp agencies and generally speaking, their experience with McNak was positive. I suspect McNeil Nakamoto's recruiters are posting many bogus job opportunities to collect information from candidates. I recently worked with a recruiter for a job opportunity in construction. He explained he had some leads with big companies and could send resume to them for immediate interview session. Sound great. In two days, he called after office to inform that he booked an interview session with a real estate development company that has office close to his recruitment office. He tried to arrange the interview the next day but he needed to confirm with the company one more time. No time yet for interview. The next day, no news and update from him. I decided to contact him and he immediately told me that the company just let a staff go and their focus had shifted to seek replacement for that staff'. Originally I had a bad impression about how messy the development company was but then I truly believe this was also his make up story to cover his lie at first place. Since then, no news from him. He did not respond any calls and emails at all. No call back when I left messages. How professional? I read blogs, this seems to happen to many people. Are there no professional recruiters out there? This person was using big company names such as Bosa, ITC, Amacon, Beedie, Turner Construction, etc. I wonder if he really has worked with the companies. read more

I first heard of McNak from a friend who got a full-time permanent position through the agency. I was in a bit of a career flux and needed a few temp assignments to get me going. So, when it came to starting my job search.. I decided to follow her advice and check them out. It was a very simple process; sent in my resume along with my preferences and done. I got a phone call within 24 hours and was in their office the next morning for a brief 15 min meeting. It felt too easy. Within two days, I got a call and asked if I wanted to work for one of their clients in the financial industry. The role was only for a week but I've been here for six months now and counting. I can't provide a comparison of pay rates.. as this was my first agency experience but it feels fair. So, why did I give them five stars? Because they genuinely care. I have been with McNeill Nakamoto on and off for over two years- and I have only good things to say about the company. The McNak team were all so helpful and the recruitment process focused on my career goals- not just getting a job! I had a couple of temporary assignments then was placed within a regional government office, the job was fantastic! After six months the organization hired me on as perm. staff.
