Ownership has changed and it is now run by the owner of the Bunnell Funeral Home's in Bloomsburg and Millville. The funeral home sits alongside a rural road in the country outside of Catawissa. Entrance to the building now varies with the size of the funeral, it can either be in the original back entrance or the new handicap accessible entrance that has been built in front of the building. The parking lot can become quite crowded if it's a larger funeral. Due to some rearrangement and changes in placements, seating has been increased for the family with the addition of a few dozen seats. Interior still holds about fifty seats for mourners, with room for twenty additional people standing. The interior is simple and dim. I would describe it as if you were going to your grandparent's house in many ways; older style furniture sits against the back and sides for people who can't sit comfortably in the wood folding chairs. It can get a bit warm inside if there's a larger funeral. The carpeting has been completely replaced as part of the recent changes. The people here really do a good job in your time of mourning. Everything was beautifully prepared for the funeral; they take the time to make sure they know about the person's life. Funeral was nothing but smooth making it an easier time for everyone involved. They do a great job at making the situation about as well as it can be.

I would not advise anyone to go to this Cemetary. They have been known to knock off the urns and…read morerun them over so that you can not put them back in the tomb stone or placque. They bend them up with the lawn mower as they are too darn lazy to get off the lawnmower and set them aside while they cut grass. They do not get back to you unless they are selling you something. If I had it to do over would never of put my parents and Aunt and Uncle here.

Since I live hundreds of miles away and my parents had lived a thousand miles away, we needed a lot of help arranging for a local preacher, flowers, digging, stone monument, graveside service tent and chairs, plus paperwork. I had been freaking out until I spoke with Mike and then everything was easy. I can't recommend them more highly as the best people to have at your side during a very difficult time.

After being employed at various funeral homes in Texas and Pennsylvania, Mr. McCarty returned home to Hughesville to open, what was originally known as, the Gordon D. McCarty Funeral Home. On July 30, 1949, Mr. McCarty married the former Lois E. Whitmoyer. Mr. and Mrs. McCarty continued to be active in the business until their retirement on January 1, 1983. As the business grew and Mr. McCarty began to think of his future plans, it was time to introduce another funeral director.
