The project was estimated to take three days (two full days and two half days) at a cost of $2,500, paid in installments (deposit, midway, and final payment). Unfortunately, the project extended to three weeks, and despite numerous attempts at "fixes" and "touch-ups," the final workmanship is poor. The paint finish is streaky and uneven, repaired cracks remain visible and discolored, wood joints are noticeable, and the pot light openings are cracked and poorly finished. I raised these concerns multiple times. While he attempted repairs, repainting, re-mudding, and even purchasing additional paint (at my expense), the issues were never resolved to an acceptable standard. There was also a lack of basic care for my home. Despite repeated requests, no drop cloths or floor protection were used, leaving paint splatters across a large hardwood area. Although he said he would clean it, only about half was addressed, leaving significant cleanup work for me. Other items were also not protected, including the front entrance mat, a coffee table he used as a workbench, nearby walls, and silk curtains. Professionalism was another concern. Matt arrived late every day, despite agreeing to a 9:00-10:00am start, he typically did not arrive before noon or 1:00pm and rarely worked full days. He often appeared unprepared, needing to leave to purchase supplies or even return home (an hour away) for forgotten items. Much of his time on-site was spent discussing issues with other clients or past jobs. He also shared that two recent clients had refused final payment and asked him not to return, which in hindsight raised red flags. Despite my concerns, I allowed the work to continue, hoping it would improve. In the end, I paid nearly in full (less $150 he deducted), primarily to conclude the situation. I provided feedback throughout the project regarding quality, cleanliness, and punctuality, but no meaningful improvements were made. After completion, I followed up with photos of the issues. His responses were dismissive, stating I hadn't raised concerns on the final day, and he offered only another coat of paint while ignoring the broader problems. Overall, I cannot recommend Matt of All Trades and would advise others to proceed with caution. Correcting this work will require significant additional expense to redo the ceiling, repaint affected areas, and repair damage to the floors.
