Five stars for cleanliness, design, and DIY ordering; 3 stars for a very limited menu and no sauces.
My friend and I were flying out of the newer international terminal (C) recently and when we discovered that the lounge was closed, we wandered to our gate instead. When we saw McDonald's, we both commented that we had never had McDonald's in Chile. I thought something from the McCafe could be good (e.g., a frozen blended chocolate coffee drink). We saw the touch-screen ordering, which I hadn't seen since 2003 in Washington, D.C., so we decided to try it out.
There is an option for English, but every item has a photo next to it, and it's pretty intuitive. Many menu items were missing (sugary McCafe drinks--boo--many sodas, and some desserts). We decided to try the family pack with one Big Mac, one quarter pounder, and chicken nuggets. Unbeknownst to me, it also came with two envelopes of fried cheese empanadas.
The burgers and fries were good and just like their U.S. counterparts. The only soda options appeared to be diet orange Fanta and diet Sprite. When the drinks arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see this location has gone straw-less; now, the cup lid has a sipping feature. Very cool.
We decided to save the nuggets for later, but when I asked the counter for sauces, I was only handed ketchup and mayonnaise. Haha--welcome to Chile. As we sat there, I noticed several customers at the surrounding tables were talking across the way to each other. Currently at SCL, all arriving passengers must submit to a covid PCR test. When I looked more closely at these cross-talking customers, I realized they were the Health Ministry employees. If McDonald's is good enough for them on their dinner break, it's good enough for me! read more
