Stopped here late at night during a road trip through France because I had to go to the bathroom. Good tip for fellow road warriors: McDonald's is a great place to stop in France when nature calls. They may not have the cleanest toilets, but they're free to use, there's plenty of free parking, they're safe and well lit, and they're open at odd hours.
Since I hated to use the toilet and dash, we decided to grab a Coke Zero to go. The restaurant was packed! Tons of people crowded inside, pure chaos. The stereotype that French citizens hate American fast food is a myth, because I saw locals gobbling up fries and burgers like nobody's business.
It took a really long time to get our soda and it was served with no ice, as is the norm in Europe. We used the self-service kiosks to order, which was easy enough. In fact, it took so long that I used the toilet twice before we left. read more
