Walking around the lovely town of Norwich, we came across this small bar. It's got a quaint…read moreatmosphere with seating on main floor, upstairs, and outside. We opted to sit outside, but the outside seating area was extremely small. Be prepared to be cramped anywhere you sit as the inside is limited for seating space as well. Nonetheless, the waiters were very nice and attentive. While my business partner drank a bloody mary (he said it was the best he'd ever tasted), I ordered a pint of Adnams Ghost Ship. I like my beers a little on the hoppy side, so this choice was perfect: not too hoppy, but still carries a citrus taste. With a menu heavily slanted towards brunch, I ordered the traditional English breakfast and was satisfied. Not the best I've ever had, but certainly worth recommending to the casual visitor.

We came one morning from brunch and loved the eggs! They do a fine cup of coffee as well. The "American Style" Pancakes where however anything but American Style. Being an American I can say I've never laid eyes on a pancake like that and I've had my share. They tasted nice, but it was essentially a couple scones made from pancake batter. We went back again for breakfast a few weeks later and brought friends from London with us and tries more of the egg dishes, bacon, and chorizo this time which were all stellar. Franks is quickly becoming our favorite breakfast and brunch place in Norwich. This Thursday we are planning of stopping in for dinner to give it a go.

It took about 10-15 minutes for someone to take our drink order first. Then the pizza we ordered…read morewas SO BLAND! The sauce had no flavor, the crust was thin and also without flavor. The pepperoni wasn't even baked into the pizza, and it kept falling off. It doesn't come sliced, but when I was trying to cut it, it was such a struggle. I was better off going to Domino's or Pizza Hut honestly. I had to send it back. They replaced it and I got the Cajun chicken wrap that came with cole slaw and fries. The wrap was slightly better; at least it had some kind of flavor to it. The fries were hard with no seasoning. I even tried to add salt and pepper, I still couldn't eat it. I wasn't a fan of the cole slaw either. The only thing I got that was decent were the mozzarella sticks and the bottled Arizona tea. Obviously from my one star I would not recommend eating here. What a shame.

They have a huge bar with an extensive cocktail list (my wife was in heaven). We went on a Friday night and had to wait at the bar for about half an hour before our table was ready which is pretty good I think. The food wasn't bad. I had calamari for a starter which was unbelievably good. That was followed by a Black and Blue Burger which was not bad. Good size portions. The service here was friendly and I never had any problems getting there attention. I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came as I was expecting to pay more. Loads of pay and display parking just across the road. There are many more places in Bury St Edmunds that I would like to try before coming back to Frankie and Benny's, however I can see me coming back here one day. I want to give this place 3 stars but we had such a fun experience, I think it's only fair to give 4 stars!
