This is located close to Kailua Town, where you can get your fixing of McDonalds. The dine in hours are reduced due to the pandemic. It is mainly breakfast and lunch. The dining area closes at 3p. The prices at this McDonald's are higher than at the Waikiki location. Greedy owners for sure. The service if you are dining is is very slow. It almost certainly would be quicker to walk outside and order at the drive through window. They give nearly all of their attention to drive through and try to ignore people at the counter. They have gone out of their way to eliminate all power sockets so that customers cannot charge their phones or computers. Very irritating. read more

I'm not the hugest fan of this McDonald's. Even though there's a play area for children, it seems like a liability issue due to all the homeless, druggies and youths (yes, the new girl's schmidt type) coming through this establishment. The wallpaper is also peeling in some places and even though it's clean, idk who sat at my table before me, it could have been that homeless guy who just left, etc. The cashiers are really hit or miss. Some of them are nice, others not so much. Some of them can't speak English, so it gets a little hard to order sometimes. The service is fast enough, if not friendly. I try not to use the bathrooms here due to the aforementioned homeless people and druggies who frequent here. This is the only McDonald's I've seen with a TV. Pretty cool, it's right next to the bathrooms and is usually playing national news. There always seems to be enough parking in the lot shared with hawaii national bank. I liked the sanitizing hand wipes at the entrance! The hamburger chairs are cute for the children as well as the play area. The eat-in section is spacious and clean. The television is a nice touch. The girl taking the orders can improve by paying attention to customers when they are speaking to her. McDonald's are all the same, right? Not so much. The goal of franchises is sameness, and the Kailua Town McDonald's is consistent in its food taste and quality--nothing truly remarkable there. However, this location stands out to me for its service. While the facility itself is large and clean, I normally use the drive-through (so does half of Kailua, judging by the length of the lines throughout the day). I'm fairly impressed by the speed at which they manage to move everyone through. In addition to the prompt service, my food orders have been filled correctly and change made accurately--every time. The drive-through employees are invariably friendly. Something most McDonalds don't do well is handle custom orders. This one has done a great job at accommodating mine, and for that they get my repeat business. read more

I finally understand why the French fries, which should be delicious, are hard, dry and barely warm. I had the pleasure of speaking with a manager on duty who said " McDonald allows French fries to sit on the warming rack for 7 minutes before they must be trashed" Then: "if I want hot fries I need to tell the cashier that I want Fresh Hot French Fries" Now that I understand I will alway order fresh hot fries instead of the cold old fries they choose to serve. Came here to try the exclusive Hawaiian dishes just to be able to say that I have. I ordered the Portuguese sausage, egg and rice breakfast plate, saimin and guava pie. The Portuguese sausage is really salty just like spam. The saimin was the worse thing I've had in Hawaii and I wish I spent those 3 dollars on a more pies! If there's anything you should try at these Hawaiian McDonald's it's the seasonal pies. It looks like they carry different flavors from guava, taro and sweet potato depending on the season. Life in Kailua is pretty good, I think. A few of my friends live in the area and they like to come over here to just chill out and whatever. I've come to this McDonald's location a few times now and it just feels so much more spacious than other McDonald's locations across the island of Oahu. It's probably the real estate and what they have to work with, in terms of the land zoning thing, but McDonald's Kailua is pretty large for its size and definitely feels like a real restaurant, rather than a fast food counter with a small seating area. Whatever your passion and comfort food here at McDonald's is, you are most welcomed here. It's pretty much a local staple here for many years. For the most part though, the McDonald's experience is as clear cut as you can get without being too excited about fast food options. You know what they have, which is really what you came there for. Fast and friendly, budget friendly and a good option for y'all who are on the go go go. For me, it was a place to hang out, grab lunch, surf the web on their FREE wi-fi, and just kill time on a weekend, if I am here in Kailua. Each experience here at this Kailua McDonald's location was a nice one. They were effieicent, just because there was no line and the restaurant itself was clean. The best parts of McDonald's was basically FREE Wi-Fi and functioning restrooms. Ideally, you would want to be a paying customer when you are using the facilities, but they don't monitor that or anything. The overall experience here at MCDonald's in Kailua is always nice and satisfying. They do have air conditioning here, although it's quite faint and you don't feel it half of the time, because of people coming and going. I usually sit next to the front door, where the drive through normally is. Makes it good for a quick exit, if need be back into town. I would sometime spend up to 2 hours at a time here, just because I have the luxury to and plus, they don't monitor people's visits too much. As long as you are not doing anything wrong or illegal, you can stay as long as you need to, I think. Then again, 2 hours may be overdoing it at times. This McDonald's in Kailua is located at 406 Kuulei Road near the entrance to Kailua town. They accept major credit cards, so that's always a good thing, as well as cash. Pretty sure they have gift cards too, but normally, cash and credit cards are the preferred method. The parking here is pretty good, although there is only so much spots. There's always the drive through option, but I'm pretty sure, there will be parking at all times of the day. If you are like me, TheBus route 55 runs through Kailua and stops nearby on Oneawa Street. Just walk a block up and you'll be there in no time. With that said though, McDonald's serves Hawaii, the USA, and many parts of the world. It's always cool to come to a place that serves good ol fashion American made hamburgers and fries. Although the fries are decent, I rather have crispy crinkle cut fries that other diners make, instead of the classically made in fast food restaurants. My favorite McDonald's menu item would have to be either the chicken mcnuggets and the quarter pounder with cheese. These two items have been on the menu for decades and I don't think it will be taken off any time soon. Other favorites include the ice cream cone and the McFlurry. I do like the self service drink station, but they limit the selections to about 8 major flavors, most of which are Coca-Cola products. 3.0 stars because it's McDonald's. 5.0 stars for free Wi-Fi and restrooms are always nice when you need to. Not the best McDonald's but not the worst either. I usually just use the drive through on my to work in the morning once a week, and those guys are amazing. Super fast and efficient, which helps me when I need to satisfy my craving for their caramel frappe. Breakfast items I've tried that were good were the big breakfast with hot cakes, breakfast burritos, oatmeal, McGriddles, sausage biscuits. They do really fall short on their non breakfast menu items. The rare occasions I hit them up on the way home tend to disappoint me and the kids. Fries can be stone cold or not have enough salt, or both. The fry containers are never full, only filled halfway. The burgers and sandwiches just don't taste right. I think this location needs to just remain a breakfast stop. Lunches and dinner, you should go somewhere else. read more

The workers at the time made NUMEROUS mistakes on very simple orders, it was pretty amazing. But, they were overall friendly... slow and got orders wrong, but did it while smiling. Went during lunch time on a Wednesday, there were 6 people in the front area -including what seemed to be the manager. They were still slow and my order took over 10 minutes. I wasn't in a rush, so I just stood there and watched. A lot of people were standing around and watching. A lot of people were waiting for their orders. It was almost funny. This place continues to go downhill. The facility itself is updated and clean. That's not the issue. The issue is the staff. Now don't get me wrong, as a local Asian, I am all for everyone working IF THEY ARE QUALIFIED!!!!!! Today was the absolute worse. The gal could barely and I want to emphasize barely, speak English and she did not have a working knowledge of English or understand enough to be taking orders. Something as simple as a Happy Meal should be easy, but she got it wrong. I had to repeat myself 3 times. Same thing for the second Happy Meal ordered. A double cheeseburger was also ordered along with a milkshake. So when I asked her to repeat the order it was wrong. She also put in an ice cream cone instead of a milkshake, etc. etc. etc. She also had great difficulty punching in the orders and had to redo it 3 times. Still wrong. The order also took almost 5 minutes for her to complete, again, wrong at that. When we sat down, the TV was blaring. It was also on a religious station, which was offensive. When people of many faiths are dining, even at McD's, they should not be bombarded with someone else's religion. ***Haters: I have nothing against religion, however, others have different values and beliefs and this is a public restaurant, not a church. This has been an ongoing problem at this particular McD's and it should be addressed with upper management. The renovations here were amazing! The store is very clean and well layed out. We stopped by for a quick snack and our order was ready before we knew it. I noticed they are one of the few restaurants who have a playground. Over the years, many Mcdonalds got rid of it but as a father of 4, I wish they'd put it back in. Three times to date, my boyfriend and I drove out empty-handed because they were out of/were not making/unintelligible excuse -- whatever we wanted to order (I am very particular! I eat at McDonald's about as often as I eat at Alan Wong's. Once or twice a year if I'm lucky. Wife and I were on a serious time crunch as her dad is ex-military and wanted us home by 9 am sharp to go to the commissary. That would easily rule out Boot's and Kimo's for breakfast, where you have to wait about 4 days to get a table. So McD's it is. We opted to "dine in." I got the sausage biscuit and wife got the "big breakfast" which is a decontructed sausage biscuit. So we both pretty much ate the same thing. Service was fast and mechanical. The ambiance at the Kailua McDonalds has gotten nicer. Orange modern looking furniture that looks easy to clean in case some homeless guy barfs all over the place. A large majority of the seating is designated for handicapped patrons. We all know no one goes to McDonald's for a healthy meal. So this review is based on the the appearance of the restaurant, the friendliness of the staff and the accuracy and the timely manner in which I received my order. Because let's be honest, the quality of the food is the same no matter which McDonalds you go to: Fast & Simple! It's been a while since I've been to McDonalds and they must have had a recent renovation(recent meaning within the past 10 years) because I felt as if I had somehow mistaken my destination and accidentally stumbled upon a hip cafe. However, I wasn't mistaken and I came to the conclusion that this McDonalds, with its neat red booths and smartly planned layout must have been transported from Seattle or Portland. The kids sections has always been pretty cool in my book, with a kid-friendly jungle gym and hamburger stools for kids to sit in style and enjoy their happy/mighty kids meals. This area is large enough to host a birthday party too (if that's even allowed). A bar table with stools area is located near a TV, making it convenient for those who LOVE to indulge in a burger or two while watching their favorite team play or catch up with the news. As I patiently wait for my number to appear on the screen (yes they have a television screen specifically to announce completed orders) and then received my order from the friendly cashier who took it to begin with, I noticed that there were many families scattered among the booths that occupy the rest of the restaurant. Although McDonalds food isn't the greatest and in no way close to being my go to meal, I don't blame those families for wanting to enjoy their meal in a clean, appealing and family friendly environment. I went through the drive-through today to pick up some breakfast, ended up leaving without anything. I went through and ordered what I normally order at all Mcds. However at this Mcds, the cashier said that she couldnt make my order as the other Mcds do. She said that it is not possible to order my sandwich with no meat and substitute egg whites. I have never run into any problems before with this order. I have made this order numerous times at the wahiawa, mililani, walmart, waipahu, nimitz, airport, pearlridge, alamoana, kaneohe, Hilo, Lihue, locations. But not Kailua. When I went up to place order she didn't greet me or give any communication besides the total of my order. On top of all this my burger was served with brown lettuce. We were on this side of the island to do some stuff and we were hungry. Decided to stop here to eat breakfast. Man this McDonald's is HUGE! Very spacious with lots of seats. I love all the vibrant colors on the furniture and paintings on the wall! I believe its just been renovated, looks brand spankin new! The playground is huge too!! There's even a TV!! The employees here are a little slow. So was the manager on duty. Food took forever to come out, and they forgot (she said she didn't know) the butter and syrup for my hotcakes which to me is pretty common sense to give if someone orders hotcakes, and also forgot 2 of my hash browns. Ugh! A guy in the lobby area spilt his two drinks and all the employees that were in front including the MANAGER just stopped, stared, and continued doing what they were doing. Not one of them came out to put up a wet floor sign, or even offer the customer to replace the cups which fell on the dirty ground. The food is the same as any other McD's. Terrible service and average food. Prices are higher at this restaurant than other McDs on island. Server did not provide a greeting or a thank you, and not even you're welcome after I thanked her! Food was ok but nothing special. Seemed like it might have been sitting there a while. Worst of all, the restrooms remain closed to customers. Even with all the drive thru and takeout business they are getting during COVID19, they don't offer a bathroom to wash hands and use the toilet. I saw a family had to let their kids pee in the McD yard because they didn't have another option. It's unreal that they continue raking in all the money but don't bother helping customers stay healthy during the pandemic. read more
