Ok, I'll start this by admitting that I'm a sucker for something new, or something no one I know has/has done/has experienced.
That being said off my wife and I went and drove the half hour to Castle Hill Macca's to have a go at the "Create Your Own" burger thingamajig.
It was fun, but a little overly complicated. It was easy enough to work out, and yet the massive touch screens were more temperamental than a child in a candy store that's been told it can only eat the sugar free lollies.
As for the price.....sorely disappointed. I ordered a burger with 3 salad items, 2 patties and a sauce. With chips. My wife did the same, but only 1 patty. Plus 20 nuggets and an apple pie. Made each of the burgers a meal with drinks and (what normally was around $31) was $51. Wait.. What... $51!!!
Yes. I had just coughed up (as it felt like I was passing a kidney through my chest) $51 for 2 burgers, 2 drinks, 20 nuggets and a pie. I looked at my wallet and it mumbled something about pressing charges against me for cruel and unusual punishment......
So I took a numbered hockey puck and sat at 1 of the few tables, which were clean and and had a nice looking menu. I expected a wait time of about 10-15 mins as I had just ordered a meal, (just like at a regular restaurant). The service was pretty good, it was a bit less than the 10 mins, and the staff member that brought the meal out was courteous and well presented. She was even kind enough to see if we had meant to order a salad as a side or the fries (must be a common mistake). However, I was surprised that they were out of the Sprite that I had ordered.
I was even more surprised to discover that both my wife's and my burgers hadn't lived up to the expectations we had in our minds.
Given the taste of the regular burgers, and the well know ingredients and sauces etc we were expecting something as or more tasty. However, what we had wasn't even as tasty as a Big Mac. Don't get me wrong, the portion sizes were good, and the way it was served (see photos) was great....but it just didn't taste like Mcdonalds. But I designed the burger, so that may be my fault. For those that are curious I had the buns, 2 Angus patties, lettuce, pineapple, egg, caramelised onion and garlic Aioli. There was also a LOT of grease/water that also came out of the burger, but I put that partially down to the fresh ingredients.
Would I do it again? Only if it is at my closest restaurant, OR I was driving past it.
Would I order as much? Not unless they drop the prices dramatically.
Would I be more or less likely to order the Create Menu against the regular menu? Less likely.
I will however try out the Breakfast menu when in a closer store as there are several items that I would like to try. read more
