It wasn't until I threatened to take them to court, did I receive a one-sentence email stating, "Send me a copy of your notice so we can go over it." No explanation on why they ignored multiple phone calls and emails. From the one sentence response, it was evident that they weren't interested in actually helping. Who wants to work with someone like that? The explanation from *another* accountant was the state and feds used different numbers. Had the state referred to the correct numbers, this wouldn't have happened. If E & M ever sought to help in earnest, they could have stepped in, and it would have been a 'no harm no foul' situation. They may do okay with the tax returns but having them help afterwards should anything happen is a crapshoot.
