One of the things I love most is that the children's library has its own downstairs entrance, which makes it really easy when you're visiting with little kids. As soon as you walk in, the information desk is right at the front, and the self-checkout stations are conveniently located on the right, making grabbing and returning books quick and simple. The children's area itself is bright and welcoming, with tons of windows and natural light, which makes it feel open and calm instead of crowded. My kids especially love the play area, and there's plenty to keep them busy. Some of the highlights include: * Interactive wall activities where kids can flip pieces, match items, and move little balls through tracks * Puppet theater play * Interactive computers * A fish tank they enjoy checking on * A coloring area * A wide variety of books for different ages There's also lots of seating, which makes it easy for parents to sit and read while the kids explore. They host storytimes in the children's library, and there's also a separate room used for programs and events. Even when we're not attending a scheduled program, the play space alone easily keeps my kids entertained for an hour or more. Another thing I appreciate is how family-friendly the layout is. Inside the children's library there are two bathrooms with changing tables, which is incredibly convenient when you're visiting with little ones. There's also an additional larger restroom outside of the children's area with stalls and another changing table. Parking is easy, with street parking near the lower-level entrance and a parking lot available as well. Outside the children's library there's extra seating, and depending on when you visit, the library café is open with really reasonable prices for coffee and snacks, which is a nice bonus during longer visits. This is definitely one of those places where we can easily stay for a few hours between playing, reading books, and just enjoying the space. After visiting for so many years, it's still one of our go-to libraries, and I know we'll keep coming back.

The staff is always so helpful, kind, and friendly! From having to pay fines or even just asking a general question everyone who I have interacted with has been very helpful! The story times are also very wonderful! Amy who reads to the kids is always so positive, fun, and outgoing allowing the kids to really get into the story and songs to have a great time! They have story time two days every week & they are always so great! I definitely would recommend if you have a little one to check out the story times! What's also great about this library is that it is apart of the Cumberland County Libraries! So if you want a specific book, but it's at a different location you can still request it because of being apart of the county libraries! Definitely check this library out if you haven't!

Seating/table space was hard to come by as many patrons, some clearly homeless, were using them as a place to sleep. By far the most difficult instance was a profoundly mentally ill young man. He was running back and forth through the library, running very near other patrons who were clearly startled and upset, yelling at his laptop. He did this next to the service desk and no one so much as raised an eye. I assumed he was a regular. The actual collection seemed pointed to a much younger demographic with board games, video game stations, videos, music, and large displays of graphic novels. If you are looking for older books or classics, you will be disappointed. As I was there to research a topic of historical Christianity, I was shocked at how little was available. If you fit the demographic, you will most likely be happy if the noise doesn't bother you. If you are middle aged and hoping to use the library for basic research, you will be better served somewhere else. I grew up using this library but am saddened to see what it has become.

How I love the hallowed halls of a good library, and HACC's is one of the area's best…read more I discovered the local community college library in 1990 when I was first a student there, but I've had a life long history of haunting libraries wherever I wind up, so it didn't take an essay assignment to send me a-wandering in its direction. The HACC library is well-stocked with classic and current titles, and they also maintain an excellent selection of magazines. The reference desk staff are very helpful and patient. My husband is currently taking courses at the college, so I tagged along recently with the specific intent of meandering through the library and amassing a stack of books to check out. As soon as the sliding glass doors gave way and I bucked a hip through the turnstile, the inimitable library smell beckoned me to the stacks on the second floor and I was in heaven. I was pleased to see a wide array of Bukowski books in the poetry section, many new, posthumous releases and older titles as well. There still sat one of the copies I used to check out years ago, and the sentimentalist in me could not resist a peek at my long-gone due dates. The art and photography sections are as well-rounded as a Botticelli nude, with many over-sized titles available for check-out. And although my eye turns toward the artier areas, know that their sections on politics, science, and history are equally outstanding. I often recommend the HACC library to folks attending other schools as an excellent resource....I think it's an oft-forgotten locale to those not currently enrolled at the community college. Alas. It is so well-maintained that it deserves some love. Enjoy a cheap, relaxing, educational afternoon at our local college library (it's even open Sunday 12-5). Or just call me a nerd.

There are board games for children to play, puzzles for varying age ranges, magnetic tiles and even a small slide for small toddlers. There are also preloaded computer games for children to get involved with, along with of course a great selection of books. My children enjoy spending hours here and it's very popular on rainy days among parents. I'm very glad I found this library!

The children's toys look like they've been there for decades. The location of the children's area is in the basement and very dingy smelling. All that said, it has a cute puppet area, the board games and puzzles are fun and I like that the whole basement is for children so it doesn't disrupt adult areas of the building.
