Karen Johnson has advised and guided us through several processes -- setting up trusts to mitigate…read moreestate taxes; -- updating them as our situation, and the law, changed, over close to two decades -- navigating getting an elderly parent into a good nursing home and covered by MassHealth (a very tricky situation). I see the previous very negative review of Leslie Madge; She is no longer with Madge & Johnson. Karen has done very good work for us so the previous low rating really should be ignored as irrelevant, in my opinion.

Leslie Sleeper Madge is now located in Westford at Madge & Johnson…read more To make a long story short, Leslie put my families home in an irrevocable trust not taking into consideration that it was remortgaged during high interest rates, due to an addition, and that someday they would refinance with a lower rate. When the interest rates dropped my mother tried to refinance and the banks refused. She was very upset and called Leslie, MANY times, for an explanation. Leslie NEVER spoke to my mother. She had her assistant call and tell her there was nothing she could do but dissolve the trust. That was not a consideration as my mother was 85 and the look back, if a nursing home was needed, is 5 years. We were told that my mother could have refinanced if Leslie had included terms in the trust that allowed for refinancing. She did not. My parents spent A LOT of money and time with Leslie Madge and I feel the least she could have done was have had the common courtesy to speak to my mother and show some concern over her situation. I will never refer anyone to her or her firm. She can not take the time out to deal with former clients to right a wrong. Once she receives the money it is a done deal..

I have firsthand experience in dealing with this firm. I saw them give bad advice to their client…read morethat resulted in increased cost for their client later on. But by that point, this firm had rejected any further responsibility, negating discussions for a resolution, and forcing me to resort to filing a lawsuit to get action. I saw how they handled it. I actually felt bad for the people they were "representing". I would never hire them to work for me. Absolutely reprehensible.

Stay away from this firm!!! They were hired to update our existing Trust documents. The good news…read moreis that they give you a free 2 hour consultation. After that it's all downhill. They charge $2,000 more for the same services other Trust Attorneys offer. Shortly after the initial consultation and the first of 3 payments, my wife suffered a ruptured appendix with complications that kept her hospitalized for 9 days with an additional 5 days at home with a drain. I received a very nasty e-mail from David Feakes demanding that I keep to the schedule, which was meeting with the attorney drafting the documents for only 1 hour. That was the only meeting allowed other than the final signing. It's impossible to review all those documents in that short a time. And their secure portal Clio was an absolute farce. It would kick you off after only a short time to review the documents. My wife and I have had our Trust documents updated by 3 different law firms. And at each update, we've met in person numerous times to review and discuss changes either side thought should be made. Not so with this firm. You get only a single 1 hour meeting. To top it off, I gave them the 2nd payment as agreed at that 1 hour meeting only to find that they had done an EFT from my bank without my permission at the same time. When I gave them the check for the final payment at the sign off meeting, I discovered afterward that they had already helped themselves to my checking account a month before the final payment was due. So I had to pay my bank $30 to void my check for that final payment . Larry L.
