Very large open space for dogs to run and play. Not any grass especially in the summer. Few trees. People are friendly. Areas for small and large dogs is separate. Sort of nice place, but nobody was there. Also, the water fountain was not working so dogs couldn't get any water. That needs to be fixed quickly. Thankfully, I brought my own water. The reason why I recommend it is because there isn't any any other dog parks that I know of. That's a problem in South Texas because there is not a lot of things to do for dogs or people or kids! No water parks run by the city, no places to swim, nothing. I just moved here from Florida and I'm disappointed. Don't tell me to go back to Florida, New Yorkers in California Democrats moved in and ruined the state by paying much higher rent because they could afford it. I lived in Texas first in Houston, which was ruined by Yankees moving in checking up the prices of everything. So now I'm in South Texas. Keep the Yankees out or they will ruin your economy and make everything cost more because they can afford it. If they ruin the economy, where are you gonna go next? Mexico where it is cheaper? Great to have a dog park in McAllen. Well thought out and very secure. Bathroom and water fountains for humans. Small and large dogs are in separate areas. Cut off is 25 pounds. The bad Not scenic at all. Grass I pretty dead just leaving dirt. No small ramps or tires or anything else for the dogs to play on. Just a large fenced area so bring balls and toys to interact with dogs. Shade is also hard to come by so sun screen is a must. read more

There's no place in McAllen where I feel so relaxed ! I am an animal lover and to be surrounded by so many cute dogs and other animal lovers is amazing . The park is very clean and offers free potty bags for ur fur babies . The space is very vast , and there's an area for small and big dogs . My dogs are very happy every time we visit and won't stop running and playing with other doggies . In the summer it does get hot , so I reccomend visiting after 5 pm . I love it ! My family took our dog to the dog park. It was a very friendly environment and the dogs all got along well. It's nice to meet other dog owners. It must be very freeing for the dogs to run around without a leash which I think is cool. I'm hoping the rest of the valley invests in these types of parks to give us other choices. read more

Seems that this is the first of its kind in the RGV... and it's about damn time. Brought my mom's dog here this afternoon and it was surprisingly empty, I really hope it catches on with the dog lovers of McAllen. Not having a dog, I haven't spent too much time in dog parks, but this one is pretty impressive, especially by RGV standards. Rules are posted prominently upon entry and on the website. There are water fountains for humans and their four-legged friends, though they're only at the entry/exit. Plenty of trees (including some newly planted ones) and benches included in the landscaping, providing plenty of shade in the stifling South Texas afternoons. There's also two separate areas, one for smaller dogs (less than 25 lbs) and one for larger dogs. I'm sure Reggie White German Shepherd would've had a blast if there were other dogs there, but he pretty much trotted around, marking his territory most of the time. I gave it 4 stars because they don't have enough trees, and Im worried that when summer comes and it is 100 F outside, they wont have enough shade to rest or play under. Also, it would be awesome if they put some exercise stations or more things to play with, like ramps, tubes to jump, etc. Other than that, it is spacious, clean and well planed. My dog loved it, we walked all over the place and he had more than enough space to run and play with other dogs. First off let me start out by saying how glad I am that there is a dog park in McAllen. My dog doesn't get too many interactions with other dogs but the few times we bring him here, most of the time, there really aren't many dogs. Sometimes the place is filled with all types of dogs big and small and when it is, it is a heck of a lot of fun for my dog. The place is nice, there is plenty of grass and trees that make it look pretty. There are a couple of benches and water fountains for you and your dog. I am glad that there is a big and small dog area and also the peacefulness of the place. If you have a dog make sure to bring him here, it is a nice distraction for your dog and maybe you could start talking with a few dog owners here and there. read more

I'm so glad there is at least one dog park in McAllen. My dogs are runners and it's a great big gated space for them.

I give it a 2 out of 5. I come here a lot so that my dog will stay socialized, but my trips will become less frequent due to owners who do not know how to control their dogs. Big breed puppies should not be allowed on the small dog side. They are physically three times bigger than my dog and owners are still don't follow common courtesy of leashing their dogs when they start to rough play. Also, there are a lot of owners who do not pick up their dogs poop. Its all dirt, not enough trees, and is nothing but a fenced in area. The grass there is is also starting to get a lot of stickers and it doesn't appear that anyone has maintained the park itself, just the outside surrounding area. read more

Being a huge dog lover, I am extremely excited that this space is available for the fur babies in family. It proves to be a safe and cleanly place for pooches to run around freely and get to interact with other dogs. It is also an excellent place to take your dog and help them develop appropriate social skills with other dogs. Love this place..well actually my dog loved it! She's a very small chihuahua and very playful and i love that they have a section for small dogs because the big o dogs would of eaten her alive! I also like that its gated because my dog is really cabrona and will run off, she had a blast playing with the other little dogs! Taking it from our dogs reaction to the Mcallen Dog Park, it is a fun experience every Saturday when he gets to go and play with new friends. The Mcallen Dog Park has many features that accommodate you and your pet. It does have the dual water fountains, and benches, and wide-open spaces for your dog to run around without the fear of crawling under the fence and taking off. The separation of the sizes of the dogs is also helpful. Although probably hilarious, it's not always recommended to let your Great Dane play with a Pomeranian. We highly recommend you take your dog of any size and let him run around and play. Your dog will make new friends, and just maybe you will too. read more

My review covers the small dog section: I was visiting from out of town and can honestly say I like this dog park much more than dog parks available in Houston.. Dogs have a tremendous space to run and play... Grass covers the entire park helping to maintain the park in a clean state... I much prefer this to dog parks with disgusting dog pools that build up bacteria and house infection.. Simple but excellent design! Recommend and will come back. read more

McAllen did a great job with the layout of this dog park. The dog size separation is thoughtfull and the benches are a nice, although more would be better. I usually have to bring my own folding chairs or blanket because they are all taken, which I don't mind. They should add another water fountain for the dogs as it can get crowded at the one at the entrance. A large or long fountain would be a great addition for the future as well as some of those playground equipment type stuff like the agility courses have. A great idea that they have already applied is the free doggie poo bags, which I'm happy to see people actually use! At first it always seemed empty but recently it has been catching on with all the dog lovers of the vally. If it wasn't for this park I don't know where else I could comfortably socialize my new pup with dogs and strangers alike which I feel is extremely improtant. If your dog doesn't play well with others please DO NOT BRING THEM; I don't want to worry about agressive dogs when I go; I know its common sense but believe me there are people who want to do just that and when something happens they act supprised. Yeah right! Every visit so far is a great experience! They might even need more parking or people will eventually start parking at the church across the street.
