Mayotte Vacances Camping Village...just back having spent two weeks on this campsite in the beautiful area and surrounds of Biscarrose.
This is not the first time we have stayed on a campsite in France having done so now at least 6 times in the last 10 years and we love camping in France.
This was by far the biggest site we have stayed on with over 750 pitches the majority of these mobile homes and holiday bungalows our preferred option for accommodation.
The campsite was clean, secure, efficient with good facilities.. However the staff have a lot to learn about customer service.
It's the first of these type of accommodation locations I have visited where as a weak French speaker (I do try and my family are better) where we really have felt very unwelcome.
The attitude of the staff at the pool and behind the bar/restaurant was appalling their lack of education on manners towards clientele and customer service was very poor. This campsite and it's location has so much to offer and is very well run but the attitude of the staff who have frontline contact with the holiday makers particularly if they do not speak French was dreadful...e.g.
Rules and regulations at the pool are all well and good but when not displayed in other languages outside of French they are not always easy to comprehend....if the pool shuts at 19:00 why are we being forced out of the pool area at 18:30? When we asked why no explanation was given just a shrug and that's the way it is. I understand if the staff need to have the tidy up jobs at the pool area done before they knock off at 19:00 but then the pool shuts at 18:30 and the signs on the entrance to the pool should reflect this.
The lack of signage of rules and regulations in English/German/Dutch was very apparent from the start.
We found by week two outside of sleeping and cooking our own meals at the bungalow, we were spending as much time as possible during the day off this site. Mainly to avoid interaction with the frontline staff.
Mayotte Vacances Camping Village is and excellent campsite but not an internationally minded campsite. Can I say that all of the staff are welcome on our shores any time and I hope our hospitatlity industry offers them a better service than we were offered at their facility.
We still love camping in France but next time we will pick a different campsite... read more
