This is a review of the hospital care I received, NOT my doctor. He was wonderful. The hospital,…read morenot so much. I was hospitalized here during my pregnancy for a kidney infection. A tech was sent in around one am to give me a shot of demerol. She told me it was to make my fever go down. That's not what demerol does. It's for pain. I don't like shots and asked if I could have it done through the IV. She was very rude and made a really big deal about having to call an actual nurse in to administer it. When I went into labor with my son, I was quickly put in a room and induced. Everything was going well at first. After my water was broken, I asked for the epidural. By then I was nearly dialated to six centimeters and the contractions were quick and very intense. The anesthesiologist yelled at me to be still or he would paralyze me. I understand the seriousness of an epidural and that it can be dangerous, but there is no need to yell at a woman in labor and scare her like that. As he walked out, I heard him tell the nurse that I would have a very difficult birth he was guessing. Soon after, I was given my next nurse. She checked to see that I was still at 5 cm. A little later, she came in, but some kind of monitor on me and an oxygen mask then left without saying anything. My mom called my cousin who was a tech at that hospital and she came to explain what it was for. The nurse didn't do this. I didn't see that nurse again for nearly three hours. My doctor came in with the nurse behind him and asked how far I had been when she last checked. She said 5. He said that wasn't very much considering how long I'd been in labor. My other cousin said she hadn't been to check on me in quite a while. After the doctor left, the nurse turned on my cousin and told her she'd better watch her mouth...I was furious. After my baby was born, he wouldn't nurse. A whole hospital full of "specialists" and it took my mom to say "I wonder if you aren't producing any colostrum." I was determined to nurse though, and I didn't want him to have any bottles. A nurse took him to the nursery at 2 am because he wouldn't stop crying. I made it VERY clear that I didn't want him given a bottle. The next morning, my new nurse brought him back and told me that he was doing fine and had no trouble taking the bottle he was given in the night. I called the head nurse in and was just told "Oh, sorry." Shortly after, I got a phone call from a man who informed me that he was the assistant to the pediatrician that had checked my son while he was in the nursery and everything was ok and if I wanted a circumcision done, the LSU clinic was my only option and then I was given a number to call. I was never even told that a doctor had checked my son, and why wasn't I present for the check? Also, I was called by an assistant, not even the actual doctor. I also called my son's planned pediatrician who told me he could do the circumcision. The man from the clinic had lied to me. Over all, it was a TERRIBLE experience, and I will NEVER have another child in this hospital.
