We had traveled for two days and were up for 30+ hours and this place was horrible. We booked it bc Lonely Planet book said it was great. Upon checking in the smell of mold was profound and the room was super awful. We were dead tired, no time to find another place and the front desk closed for the night. We booked for 2 nights but left the next morning. No one at the reception desk spoke English and we just didn't want to deal with trying to get a refund, we just left. See the photos. Highlight for me was the dorm room beds. Lots of hostels just have uncomfortable bunk beds, but natura has these little cubbies built into the walls that are awesome. Each has a curtain for privacy, and inside there's an individual light and fan for your space plus a little nook to put things and a charging port. Only downside was they don't turn on AC in the room until 11pm--but they will if you ask! V nice service, everything was clean and comfy, really nice spacious showers. Lovely rooftop terrace with hammocks, lots of places to lie out, a book exchange, and a kitchen. Overall this hostel was smaller and quieter than many I've stayed at but it was beautiful, comfy and tranquil. And again, seconds from the beach! Hard to beat.

This hostel ruined my vacation. I had reserved a private room at the hostel six weeks in advance…read more Upon arrival, I was informed that I didn't have a reservation by the "employee" who was actually hanging out in a hammock with the guests and completely unwelcoming. Well, after pulling up my confirmation number and showing him on my phone, he realized he was wrong and told me that they had overbooked the hostel and that he would be having me stay at another very nice upscale hostel across the street. I was annoyed, angry and frustrated because I had just spent hours trying to find the place and the guy was being so unaccommodating--and, while it was probably not his fault, he was certainly a shi**y messenger. He noticed this and said, "don't worry. you can come over here and chill with us," as if chilling with him was something that would improve my day. Well, without knowing what our other options were and not wanting to be without a place, we went to the other hostel to check it out. I asked him the name and he said it was Hostel San Miguel. Immediately, I tried googling it to see if there were, in fact, any safety issues or sanitary concerns. As we walked up to the place, all the signs said Hostel San Patricio which was not what the guy had told me. I also asked him if folks there spoke any English and he said, of course they did (they didn't). I won't get into the other hostel, but it was decrepit and damaged. While linens were clean, the rooms and bathroom had dirty walls. it didn't feel safe (the doors were wide open at night and people weren't staffing the front desk at all times). We didn't know what else to do so we said fine. We settled in... cautiously and figured we'd go check out Hostel Orquideas in the morning for breakfast before our flight out from Cancun. After perusing the town, we got back to the replacement hostel and fell asleep. Around 11 pm there was banging at the door. It was the Shi**y Attitude guy all friendly saying, "Hey, you didn't pay for the rest of your room. I need the remainder of your balance." I, completely caught off guard and not knowing whether this was true or not, started laughing and said, okay, look, I'm asleep right now, it's the middle of the night, I'll come by in the morning so we can settle all of this--I was asleep. And he got enraged and said, "if you don't pay me right now then I am calling the cops and you guys are getting thrown out." I was shaking from his aggressive behavior and felt sick. I couldn't tell if I was being hustled or what the hell was going on. I told him that I don't even know if what he's saying is true or not. He said, "F* you, you pay me now or I'm calling the cops." So I lost it... I told him he could stand at the door while I check my emails to see if what he's saying is true or not. It was in fact accurate, that I had paid a 50% deposit, and I paid him the balance and he left. But I was wide awake all night wondering... what's to stop this guy from coming back? What if he calls the cops anyway? Why wouldn't he have just waited till morning? Needless to say, I officially detest downtown Cancun and hope Hostal Orquideas and their owner Antonella (who I complained to and completely minimized the confrontation) lose every possible customer they get. It's awful and.... you'll probably get overbooked without notice. Screw everything about this place and the people there.

I have nothing but good things to say about this place for a all inclusive, ADULTS ONLY resort. The resort it self was clean, modern and flawless. The service and people working there was top notch, everyone made us feel like royalty. The food was so good, obviously some spots weren't perfect but 90% of the time we LOVED what we ate. Was full inclusive so we ate a ton and drank a lot! The pools were beautiful and lots of options having 4. From Tuesday to Thursday it was so easy to get a spot at the pool or beach, would show up at 11am and find a two chairs and umbrella no problem. Friday/Saturday it was a bit harder since it's the weekend so the pool area was packed by 1pm but went to the beach and again found two spots with umbrella no problem. Beach was solid for hotel zone, this area of Cancun is known for having bad seaweed but the resort did its best to keep it cleaned up. Was able to get in the water some days and not see the seaweed everywhere. We did a preferred booking so got room on a higher floor, exclusive quick check in, access to roof top pool and restaurant. So if you don't care about those things just do a regular room but the upstairs pool was incredible. This place is definitely a relaxing resort, not a ton to do at night but that's what we wanted for our honeymoon. Pool can be somewhat lively during the day with music, and performances but at night it's just casual bars, restaurants and what not. Everything dies down before 12. Did a spa day too and it was great, had a couples massage, full body scrub, and hydrotherapy circuit for two that costs $398. I recommend booking it when you arrive as they may have deals. It was a great experience overall, we would for sure come back 100%!!! Every single worker there was so nice and helpful. Did not have a single bad experience with anyone that worked there.

Located in the hotel zone of Cancun so it only took maybe 15 minutes to get there from the airport. Gated resort with an attendant. We never felt unsafe and even ventured off of the property to check out the shops across the street. I would highly recommend this resort!

**CAUTION BED BUGS **…read more Our stay at Quetzal hostel hasn't been pleasant at all..We were sleeping in the 7 beds dorm room right next to the front desk (3 bunk-beds and 1 single bed). Even though we were the only two in the room that night,  there was a constant flow of people in our room, since the staff uses our bathroom and that other client get in there to use our lockers. The door doesn't have a lock so we didn't really feel that our stuff was safe. Moreover, the room smells and the bathroom's toilet doesn't flush. The shower had a drizzle jet. We saw the lady cleaning our room (3 sweep and putting the sheets back to their place). She didn't change the sheets of the 2 other beds that were occupied that night. She just dusted the fitted sheet and roll the other sheet exactly the same way we founded our bed when we got there the first day. There you go, the bed is all ready for the next person to sleep in.. The first night, my friend woke up with a hundred of bites all over her right arm. But, the next morning, she woke up with double as much bites than the previous morning, and extra bites on her entire body. I'm also starting to have bites on my arms and legs. My friend went to talk to the front desk girl, showed her her arm and asked if it could be bed bugs. She told us : they just wrapped the beds couple days ago so it's normal if the bugs are coming out. I also have few of those once in a while, you'll see it goes away eventually... Whhhhhaat? Normal? Few bites? Have you seen her arm, it is covered in bites it is definitely not just a few. A little bit later, an other guy who works there said : well it's not that bad, some people had them in their luggages...Thanks for the encouraging words . So if I understand, you knew and still you let people sleep in that room Infected with bed bugs without a heads up..This room should have been sealed and treated properly before even considering letting other customers in. So we had to spent one of our last two days in the emergency room so we could get a treatment for the bed bugs. Back to the hostel we asked for a refund for the night we won't be sleeping there ( I'm not staying there longer). The manager said no, cause he wouldn't see why he should give us a refund, that it was normal for a hostel to have bed bugs and that he has some bite too sometimes and it doesn't matter. When we went back into the room, at least 2 other people were staying in the very same room full of bed bugs even though the employees know what is happening in there... In conclusion,  avoid it at all cost or you might bring home more than just memories...

But nobody's yum is a hotel with no hot water or water pressure. Can I say that again? ZERO hot water. You cannot wash your hair with the amount of water pressure the cold showers have. Maybe that's why they didn't bother to provide wash cloths. One towel per double bed. That's all. We stayed here one night bc our flight was canceled and this is where the airline sent us. If I hadn't been exhausted by a day of delays and no information, I might have looked it up before staying here but I did not. The beds were ok. Small. The AC was not on when we got there. We were given a remote to turn it on. The rooms were stuffy. They eventually got to bearable. There was music playing somewhere nearby. We were able to fall asleep, but I'm sure many people would find it unbearable. We were woken up at 6:45 am by loud voices in the hall way. BC everything is tile, there is nothing to soak up noise. It is loud. Oh, that tile? It hurts. You won't want to walk in this room without shoes. It also makes it tricky to use a roller bag. The elevator is tiny. There is nothing fancy about the rooms but they are clean and minimalist with a king size bed, ocean views from the balcony and steps to the beach. When I checked in this time I was given keys to a room in the oldest section of the hotel. I told them that I booked in the Castle section. I was told that there were no rooms available in that building because of an issue with the water. I don't think this was true, as I saw that there was painting going on on that building throughout my stay. I went to the room that they gave me and it was horrible. It smelled of fried food/grease from the building next door and was incredibly small, outdated, and in very poor shape. There was one double bed and a twin bed practically touching one another. My partner is 6' 4" and 230 lbs. We would not be able to share a double bed and I was not going to sleep in a twin bed. I went back to check-in and asked for a different room, explaining that my partner is a large man and we wouldn't be comfortable in that room. (One of the reasons I booked in the Castle section-- large rooms and a king bed) I was eventually given a room in the section around the pool. The room was much larger with two double beds. I was unable to share a bed with my partner during our vacation.. not what I was looking for. This section of rooms is also very tired. The a/c was loud and blew down directly on the head of the beds. The back "patio" area had no furniture and a few broken and abandoned flower pots. We never went out there. The box spring on one of the beds had black mold on it and on both beds the mattresses and box springs were different sizes. There was a very musty smell. No hair conditioner. No hand towels or wash cloths. No hair dryer. The pool area is very pretty with lush gardens though. If I had known I was not going to be able to stay in a room in the building that I booked, I would never have booked at this hotel, knowing that the other two sections of rooms are extremely tired. All in all a very disappointing stay and I won't take a chance on booking here again.
